Illinois (10-8) vs Nebraska (12-7) Game Thread
OmahaHusker replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Time out 2.5 minutes in. Promising sign -
Ya I agree it's a stretch. Season is still somewhat young. But you can't argue that that's not tough to look at side by side as of today. And I know I didn't expect this from them either haha. Ya he is. And funny you should bring up Valpo because they rolled Drake last night. Bakari Evelyn had 9 for them.

As of right now...if we lost to Michigan, @Ohio State, and Maryland...we're essentially a really good Missouri Valley team. I have a small spot in my heart for Drake basketball so I looked at their remaining schedule compared to ours. If you take out the Michigan, OSU, and Maryland games from our schedule...I'd argue they currently have a more competitive schedule than us. How do you think that looks to the committee? Even if we went 13-5

Whats Marquette? They killed Wisconsin on the road in non con and just killed Seton Hall at home. That's a team that takes an 11 seed at large from us if they stay hot. We need to keep winning and those middle tier teams to not have big wins. I'm paranoid this season but it's better than knowing we have no chance -

After updating today...teamrankings is saying it's looking like 22 wins gets you in the discussion and 23 gets you in. https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketball/team/nebraska-cornhuskers/bracketology Just one game at a time.

I agree that tomorrow isn't a must win, but man would it let me breath easier with our tourney chances. A tall task yes but I look at our remaining schedule with the RPI ratings on ESPN and the opportunity for good wins is getting minimal. And I think Maryland and Minnesota's RPI's are going to drop as the Jackson injury starts to take effect as well as the Lynch suspension. You look at this and almost laugh....Wisconsin and Indiana both under 100. We're currently 74 and Northwestern is now 92 after Tuesday night. -

Update on Lunardi's ESPN bracket http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology Four Big Ten teams making it as of now. Has Minny being left out but Maryland making it. -

Looked into rpiforecast.com. So we could go 10-5 the rest of the regular season and are only projected to have an RPI of 56.9! That is trash! THANKS BIG TEN! To accomplish 12-6 in conference and only have that kind of RPI is unreal. -

Agree to disagree. I just don't see how 10-8 gets us in when we have no quality non con wins (maybe BC). The committee aren't idiots they're not going to default to conference respect when middle of the pack teams (which we would be at 10-8) from the five conferences above us have more quality wins from stronger conference competition. This is also looking way to far ahead, but it's still fun to talk about. -

I didn't realize the B1G was ranked 6th of the Power 6 in conference RPI until today. Wow Wisconsin, Indiana, NW, and Iowa all under performing is screwing us. Knowing what I know now I'm with @HuskerActuary we're gonna need a 12-6 conference record and more than likely a win in the B1G tourney. And I also think if we went 12-6 the rest of our regular season losses cant be at Purdue, Michigan, at Ohio State, at Minnesota for the rematch, and Maryland. We need to win a couple of those games for quality. -
It's a very good site to follow throughout the season. Will be interesting to see if we are projected in any of the brackets after last night's win once they all start updating. As of now we're still not in any of them and Northwestern is only projected to be in 1 of the 46 brackets on there. Kind of a bummer.

Seton Hall is a good team I didn't necessarily expect Creighton to win that one. What surprised me was the St. Johns game. Providence made them look like last year's St. Johns team, while on the road nonetheless. Just a testament that conference play is a different monster. All the teams know the other team's sets and tendencies a lot better. -

I'd recommend following http://bracketmatrix.com/ as the season rolls along. It takes ESPN's bracket as well as brackets from 31 other outlets and pairs them to find an average seed for each team. As of now, Nebraska isn't projected making it in any of them. EDIT: Since I'm still relatively new to the board, if you guys already follow this site pretty regularly my bad. GBR -

Oh ok that makes more sense. A 45 RPI is a solid bubble team. Thanks for clearing that up. -

Does that guy that says "10 more" really think that wins against Delaware State and Stetson and only 8 more conference wins will get us into the tourney? -
I went over and read their thread. Honestly if were in their shoes and won the last 6 years in convincing fashion I'd be talking arrogantly about a rival just like they are.

Glynn Watson - Davion Mintz (tho I think they're going to put Thomas on Glynn) Evan Taylor - Khyri Thomas James Palmer - Marcus Foster (wishful thinking) Isaiah Roby _________________ (probably) Jordy Tshimanga - Martin Krampelj or Toby Hegner Isaac Copeland - Ronnie Harrell

When I watched their game against Creighton I was thoroughly impressed. Even though they lost, Vic Law and McIntosh could not miss. Ever since that game Northwestern has been a huge disappointment.

Expectations for the next 5 games?

Exactly. Pretty sure Creighton only loses Foster and Hegner after this year. We gotta get right first. -

OmahaHusker replied to FredsSlacks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
My honest expectation is we beat BC and lose the next 4. Winning one of those 4 would be gravy but I don't see it happening -
You and your vulgarity don't have to worry...if he turned down Ohio State he would legitimately laugh at a call from our program

Nebraska (2-0) Vs. St. Johns (2-0) Game Thread
OmahaHusker replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I just watched the St John's highlights to see if it really was as bad as it was after calming down a bit. My word of advice is do not watch the highlights. That alley oop they threw off the back board is going to make me sleep uneasy tonight. Let's get some MO back on our side and come out hungry against North Dakota
