  1. A good friend of mine from high school is (or at least used to be) a student manager. Are those dudes allowed to attend summer practice
  2. Reminds me a lot of Thon Maker and potential to bust
  3. I'm not sure why you are acting like you are not a Creighton fan. It's pretty clear by your posting history you root for them. I'm sure you are right that we won't beat them on the road. But them beating us doesn't mean they are world beaters. I guess we will see, but every year coming out of the summer they have a sweet 16 team.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sorry but i feel obligated to respond. All world? Sweet 16? If you took the time to read my post you would have seen my expectation was a NIT bid. Do you go over and lurk on BJU? A poll conducted showed most posters thought we'd finish 6th this year in the conference. Don't know where you're getting the idea we think we will be a top 25 team, much less sweet 16. Anyone who thinks CU makes the sweet sixteen next year is delusional and their opinion is completely irrelevant to this discussion re: khyri thomas, last year's best defender was a 5'9 point guard who played 38 minutes a game and gave up, on average, 3 inches and 30 pounds every night at his position. Didn't take a basketball expert to see we did not have a single good one on one defender....
  4. Ok. Good for the Jays. But . . . optimism always abounds in the summertime when every team is still undefeated. That's true for the Jays. It's true for the Huskers. And it's true for everyone else. Yet, I can't imagine the grief Huskers would be receiving if a 2.5 star Composit Rating freshman is our "best defender" and a juco "no one has ever heard of" is probably "the most athletic guy on the team." What about that nearly-five-star seven footer; and what about those sat-out transfer world-beaters? But, hey, that's why they play the game. And that's what keeps us all coming back. And that's what keeps message boards like this humming. Basketball players are basketball players... the coaches knew they liked Khryi and his game. It doesn't, and shouldn't, matter what is recruiting ranking is. Albert has a 40+inch vert (according to piv who's been to every Italy practice) and can shoot well from deep. Again, doesn't matter that his reputation doesn't necessarily match what he will bring to the court. He had offers from Memphis, Pitt, Purdue and Oregon. The transfers are given the benefit of the doubt that they will perform well; Cole Huff should be the most productive newcomer and Maurice Watson will easily fill the shoes of Chatman and hopefully then some Patton will probably redshirt, he's too thin to play center in the big east at this point. To shield against any remarks you all might have in response to us redshirting a 5 star prospect...again a player is what they bring to the court not their recruiting ranking. The recruiting guys that watched patton know how good a player he can become and that's why he is rated so highly Look, at the end of the day, I know i'm not gonna change any of your minds about how well Creighton will perform this year. But, objectively speaking, we have more shooters than we did last year. We are a lot more athletic than last year. We will also have more depth. My realistic expectation is a NIT bid, we could make the tournament if the guys really gel early and someone (Huff most likely) steps up to be a go to guy
  5. there'll be a lot of guys that our conference mates have zero scouting footage on, which should play to our advantage. The coaches think Thomas will be the team's best defender; our new juco signee that no one has heard of is the most athletic guy on the team probably. The question about this year's team will be who steps up as a go to guy. In terms of athletic ability and shooting this roster is quite a bit more talented than last year's
  6. Not like he's coming to Omaha anyway
  7. I would hope Terran doesn't get stuck in the Hinkie circus show. Can't wait until the public opinion on his "project" flips and he takes the heat for all his terrible decisions over the past couple years. I've read that Embiid is now ~6 months past his timetable for recovery. What a joke. Terran deserves to play for an actual NBA team..
  8. Lebron is a far better role model for children than MJ was. The gambling aside, MJ is a pretty well documented jerk. Part of that comes with the territory of being the best - but take a look at his HOF acceptance speech. Also, if you want a guide on how to not run an NBA franchise, take a look at MJ's history in the business - you could take a class on how poorly he has handled ownership
  9. The man has never gotten into legal trouble or had a scandal, despite being in the national spotlight since he was in high school. By all accounts he's highly intelligent, an active father, and an overall solid role model. Compare that with the average professional athlete today who does far worse while under a much smaller microscope. And you want to complain about a one-hour TV broadcast, which he agreed to do in exchange for raising $6 million for charity? It always amazes me how many sports fans are able to separate on- and off-field performance for everyone other than LeBron. They can literally cheer for criminals, and yet hold a grudge against a guy for a couple arrogant statements made five years ago. Being a good Father, staying out of jail, and not beating your wife is what you're SUPPOSED to do, and shouldn't be overly celebrated. He's freakishly athletic, big, but I've always considered him an average shooter and highly overrated. I hope the Warriors take 'em in 4. So why don't you like him? I'm confused. He has greatly improved his shooting since entering the league. You are blind if you can't recognize he has been the preeminent talent in the sport for the past 8 years, and probably the most naturally gifted player to play since Shaq or Jordan. Even if your first statement is true, Lebron is the moderate exception, not the standard to which star athletes are held. He's a good guy on the court, good guy off, I don't understand why anyone other than Celtics, Bulls, or Heat fans have beef with him
  10. As a D-1 coach, I would take Chukwu. A guy with his physical tools can always be a difference maker...but its a bit of a guessing game as to when that happens
  11. I highly doubt NBA teams are going to pass on him because he only has a 25 inch standing vert. Especially since they've watched him play and know he has good athletic ability. Hardly anyone besides Gerald Green or Russell Westbrook ever reaches their max vert numbers in a real game-time situation.
  12. A 31 inch vertical is not a poor measurement. Strictly by the numbers it might be "average" for TP's position but there are lots of players in the NBA who have good athleticism but aren't leapers. Demarre Carroll and Jae Crowder immediately come to mind. IIRC Doug had a 36 inch vert, but he'd probably trade the 5 inches for more agility/explosiveness. When you watch TP play you can tell the guy has plenty of athleticism to play in the NBA
  13. It's possible, but that means he'd have to shoot as well as Matt Barnes
  14. I'm not disregarding those victories. Watson especially. Kudos to Tim and the staff for that one. In the interest of fairness, however, wasn't the Morrow battle NU's to lose from the get go? That doesn't diminish the value of the pickup, but I just wanted to point it out. Trust me, Coach Mac and CU nation knows what it feels like to strike out on a recruit you could really use. Makes the kids you land all that more cherished, though
  15. Recruiting 18-20 yr olds to the state of nebraska is hard. Just spent the past few minutes reading this entire thread. Sucks when a kid looks elsewhere without even giving you a chance. I feel your pain
  16. Gibbs would be a good get. IMO, he is like Marcus Smart. Passionate about the competition to a fault; sometimes that nature gets the better of him on the court. But he's a go to guy, and from what I can tell he was a solid leader during most his time at Seton Hall
  17. He might be the JR Smith type, but I highly doubt he will ever be anywhere close to as good as JR can be given the circumstance. He's nowhere near as good from long range, and JR undoubtedly has better handles. There are just a lot of question marks surrounding TP's game. He has a problem of holding onto the ball, and his assist to turnover ratio in college was bad. Now, TP definitely won't be asked to create offense for himself near as much on an NBA team. His ball handling is probably not gonna cut it if he wants to do off the dribble stuff, IMO. Can he improve that or his shooting from deep enough so that he could make it as a shooter? I think he's a d league player right now when its all said and done. But I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a contract either
  18. There are reasons to believe him and HC Bruce Weber did not get along. At all. It's fine to compare the baggage of Foster and Biggs...but in reality Foster had zero problems in high school and zero problems his freshman year. It's not like we're signing Malek Harris. Last year, in terms of his disciplinary issues, was an aberration. And is it even a discussion concerning who is more talented between Biggs and Foster? Hate to bring it up but its a lot more acceptable to take a player like Marcus with some past issues if he's got a lot of talent. Any CU fan who claims all the kids we sign are angels is full of sh**. All of these players are kids who have some growing up to do, they do stupid things on occasion. As long as CU is trying to remain relevant in the world of men's CBB, the coaches will take chances on players. Is there some risk with Marcus, sure, but I think the potential reward is unbelievably worth it. If there's one thing I know about CU basketball, its that locker room problems are the last things us fans have to worry about (last time that was an issue was with Stinnet in 2010). Even losing all those games in a streak last year, there was no talk of hostility or finger pointing. The coaches do an excellent job emphasizing the concept of the team, instilling that camaraderie early on in the players' careers at CU. edit: You cannot blame the fanbase for our excitement surrounding Marcus. We were so close to landing him out of high school, and he is the skilled, big, athletic guard we have coveted for so long now. I think you'd have to go back into the pre-modern era of college hoops to find a player as physically talented as Marcus who played for CU I'd say Biggs is pretty damn talented. And to say Foster is a big guard is a tad bit of a stretch. 6'2" 200 lbs is not "Big". Its not big for a prototypical SG, but that's not what Marcus is. He's a combo who makes plays with the ball in his hands. If the opposing team d's him up with a typically sized point, that's where his size will really come into play.

  20. Creighton recruited him for a time and I know he had issues in high school too... he was suspended for 11 games of his junior season and then suspended for the entirety of his senior season. I'm a little fuzzy on the details but I think it involved pot/ booze both times. Then he got suspended at some point during this last season at k state. His history of messing up with disciplinary issues should be a huge red flag for any program taking a look at him
  21. I would echo the sentiment that the context in which Andrew used the word is very different than if a white player used it to address a black player. Don't care what you have to say about double standards, but anyone with a brain should be able to distinguish the two sets of circumstances and realize one of them would spark a lot more controversy than the other
  22. Saw the club team a couple years ago and did not think they were very good. I don't know if that's something to take in consideration when contemplating the jump to d1
  23. I think next offseason could be the time to hit the panic button if your new recruits do not pan out. Honestly, I believe losing Walt is addition by subtraction and that has been discussed ad nauseam over the past couple days. Most on here expected TP to be gone. The only unexpected loss that I feel has a significant lasting effect is Smith. He looked good as a freshman...if its true that Miles told him he'd get most of his time at the 2 and he left because of that, that's really tough because I would have tried like heck to make more minutes for a player of his caliber. If that means benching Parker...so be it. But I'm not paid the money to make tough decisions. If anything its an indirect vote of confidence for Watson next season. In letting Smith go, the coaching staff has put their faith in a true freshman.. it will be interesting to see play out. But if Tai Webster is play a good number of minutes at point guard then I do not like the chances that NU makes noise in the reg. season/ postseason. I don't like "giving up" on a player who still is growing, but concurrently he has not shown the ability to be a solid contributor in the Big Ten. Your season next year really appears to hinge on how much AWIII, Morrow, and Watson can immediately contribute.
  24. He gets a few Euro moves in the post & he'd be golden there. He would have been golden in the NCAA had he done that this past summer, or even this coming summer. I can see a guy like Walt making a living in Europe. But if that's the case then what was all this hoopla about moving on into the exciting field of business...
  25. Why? Not trying to be adversarial, but you seem to be the only one on the board that saw this coming. You have more insight on the situation?
