We (OWH) try not to cover too many middle school athletics events in this space, but sometimes it's just too good to pass up.

Exhibit A: Evan Meyersick, a 6-foot-3 seventh grader who's averaging 20 points and 12 rebounds per game, recorded his first dunk in a game in the Junior Patriots' win this weekend.

Back in the days before middle school, when 9th grade was still junior high, I remember a kid who was maybe 6 foot do a one-step, two-foot takeoff and grab the rim. The dunk missed, but the fact he was able to even almost dunk like that was impressive in its own right.

Having coached junior high basketball, if a team at that level gets dunked on they're probably done for the rest of the game.  They've got their story to tell their friends at school.

A hard foul isn't going to stop a kid like that at this level.  Most of his opponents aren't big/strong enough to foul him that hard.
