Huskers Hope To Rebound at No. 14 Northwestern

The Nebraska women’s basketball team opens Big Ten road play on Sunday, when the Huskers venture to Evanston, Ill., to take on No. 14 Northwestern. Tip-off between the Huskers and Wildcats is set for 1:30 p.m. with live television coverage by BTN.

Nebraska will try to rebound from a 64-58 loss to Iowa on Thursday. The Huskers dropped their Big Ten opener despite 28 points and eight rebounds from freshman forward Jessica Shepard. The Big Red was also plus-15 in the turnover department (24-9), but were outrebounded 51-29 by the Hawkeyes.

Northwestern suffered a similar disappointment at 5-6 Penn State to open conference play, falling 79-72 to the Lady Lions. The Wildcats were outrebounded 62-43. Northwestern is being outrebounded by 3.5 boards per game on the year.

Lead by Coach Joe McKeown, an experienced Northwestern team returns four starters from last year’s NCAA Tournament team, and all four are averaging double figures, led by junior Nia Coffey’s 18.3 ppg and 11.2 boards.

Maggie Lyon ranks second on the squad in scoring and rebounding with 15.3 points and 5.6 boards per game. Christen Inman is averaging 14.9 points. Ashley Deary is averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and team highs with 6.7 assists and 4.6 steals per game.

Northwestern is shooting 43.2 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range, while knocking down 6.9 threes per game. The Wildcats have struggled from the line hitting 64.6 percent of their free throws.

Nebraska leads the all-time series with Northwestern, 7-4, but the Wildcats have won the last two meetings

So which Nebraska team will show up ?

Hope they got  many of the "issues" out of their system, and are getting more healthy.... in particular.

May have to wait some more time.

This team had the skills and talent to beat Iowa. We almost did after playing very inconsistent. (1st half mostly) We out scored them in 3rd and 4th qtrs.

Big issue is.....not a full roster. We're a different team without RB43 and Maddie, and changes our style, and approach to play.

Last year we had the starters (and 6th man) pretty much all year, until Rachel T went out, then we were a different team too.

If we're missing a couple of key players again, Northwestern could be similar to the Iowa game, where we could really have to work, to keep up. We just can't sub like we were earlier in the season.

Simply can't shoot in the 30% ranges again. We're better than that.... and pretty sure we'll also show it in many other ways against NW.

We have shown we come back pretty well after a loss. Connie will have made her points to think about in this weeks practices. Expect a real fight to the finish.

Hope they got it out of their system, (what ever it was against Iowa) and are getting more healthy in particular.

Northwestern is a tough place to shoot with all of the different colors in the background. Hopefully there will be more than 500 people there to watch the game.

I thought Anya was going to punch a ref when they called that foul on her.

Just to be clear, I'm sure Anya would never punch anyone.

What was with the refs today? Matt said that the male one looked like he wanted to T up Jess. and then Beverly Roberts was yelling Theroit after she had gotten a rebound. did the refs suck ass that bad?
