Husker BB, I remember that Creighton team in 90-91. They were good. Tony Barone coaching up Bob Harstad and Chad Gallagher. Good team. This Creighton team is better. A lot better. For starters, neither Harstad nor Gallagher was remotely as good as Doug McDermott. My hat is off to that kid. He is one hell of a player. I don't think his ability will translate to the next level very well because a lot of the ways he scores he simply won't be able to do against NBA competition. Still, for a college player, he's outstanding.

Second, that Creighton team did not have the inside presence that they get from Enrique. All you people who thought Chris Balham was a beast should take a good look at the Enrique kid. He really is a beast. Strong, athletic, and he swallows rebounds whole. Honestly, he is the kind of player I hope we are able to find to fill out our recruiting class for next year. He's not as raw as I expected him to be. He not only has some skills but he's very athletic for his size.

Third, this Creighton team has more weapons overall than the '91 Bluejays had. I agree with what Coach Miles said on his post-game. This is a once-in-a-lifetime team for Greg McDermott. His team has all the pieces. Tonight, they had a kid who scored 27 pts; a kid who grabbed 12 boards; a kid who dished 10 assists; and another kid who hit 3 treys. They have a lot of players who can do damage to you. I think I can speak for Tim Miles in saying I would be surprised if Creighton is ever this good again. This is their year; they better darned well enjoy it because it's all downhill from here, baby.

Not really interested in debating over which of two CU teams is better and that was not really my point anyway. But Echinique over Gallagher - seriously ???? I can't even comprehend that comparison coming out that way. Personally I would not even put those two in the same category. Echinique is physical speciman and I know he had a double/double tonight but he is not anywhere close to as good of a player as Chad Gallagher was IMO. Several days ago someone asked me if Andre Almeida would compare favorably to Aleks Maric. I laughed out loud at that suggestion - but I have to say I would at least categorize those two Huskers as more closely comparable than Echinque and Gallagher.

Obviously I would give you McDermott over Harstad (although Harstad was a helluva player) and would agree that this CU team is probably deeper overall than that one. But the real point was simply that the CU 90-91 team was clearly one of their 10 best teams - maybe even among their 5 best. A description that also fits this CU team.

I think McDermott will go pro after this year. Eschenique, Gibbs, and Jones will all graduate, so I could see Doug leaving too. He's been projected by many sources as a mid to late 1st round pick. I'm not sure Doug's game will translate to the NBA though. Kind of like Adam Morrison. Doug has a better post game than Morrison, but I'm not sure he is strong/athletic enough to play in the post in the nba.

I don't think Doug will go pro after this year, I just don't see the benefit, he may get picked higher this year because this years draft class is really weak, but he isn't ready for the NBA game at this point, and I think he and his dad know that.

Saying that I think he could be a serviceable NBA player, I think of a Nick Collison type of player but with better offensive skills. There's no way he can play in the post in the NBA but he could be a decent stretch 4 type. He will have to be a scrappy player who crashes the boards and makes open and timely shots.

I wouldn't expect him to ever make an all-star team but could be a pretty good role player, either a starter on a bad team, or one of the top guys off the bench for a contender.

I agree with Norm. Especially considering if you want to be a force on the national scense. It is absoutely no comparison whatsoever when comparing the prescence he brings in relation to Gallagher. He makes a difference at the rim. Way tougher to deal with. That is what a Valley team needs in the dance. He is what helps makes this Creighton team so good.

the game was hard to listen to, but i have faith in this husker team...and there is one postive thing i will take out of this...BIG Andre's dunk was a top ten nominee on sportscenter

Yeah, Creighton's flat out better than us but wow what an unlikable team. McDermott after the T, Gibbs all around, ugh. You can also definitely tell which school has a soccer team.

-Here's hoping McDermott continues his great season and moves up into the first round of the draft so he's gone next year. Currently projecting mid second round.

-Loved the feistiness of our transfers/redshirts, lots of chirping from the bench.

-Also love the tweet from Hawkins that he's not losing to Creighton.

The fact he's coached by his father makes you think this has a 0.0% chance of happening.

This is way off-topic but WOW - can't believe you can say that if you actually saw Chad Gallagher play. Just look at the numbers - Echinique averges 10.6 ppg and 7.1 rpg. Gallagher in 90-91 was 19.4 and 8.8. Echinique has more "presence"?? Even though Gallagher averaged 2.2 blocks per game to Echinique's 1.3? Gallagher was an early 2nd round NBA draft pick - you think Echinique is going to get picked in the NBA draft?

At the time Harstad and Gallagher were the #1 and #2 all-time leading scorers for Creighton. Very rare to see that happen at a school with two kids in the same class - and they were both seniors in 90-91. McDermott will likely pass them both on that scoring list obviously. But Echinique isn't even in the same category as a player.
