Nebrasketballer Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 6'4" Guard. Originally from Omaha, NE. I understand that we would like to see Nebraska get a Grad Transfer Center, but I figured I would post this, because (unlike most of the Grad Transfers we talk about on here) he actually has a legit connection to Tim Miles (Tim Miles recruited him to CSU), as well as a legit connection to the state of Nebraska. I'm not saying that I think Nebraska should go all-in on him...just posting this because it is out there. http://www.csurams.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/dwight_smith_711073.html Quote
lanigan123 Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 I think we are deep at the positions he plays. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 I wonder if UNO would have serious interest w/ the Mavs starting wing/scorer Justin Simmons' graduation... it should be noted that DS is from Ralston and UNO plays at the Ralston Arena. Quote
Nebrasketballer Posted March 26, 2014 Author Report Posted March 26, 2014 This is from someone closer to the situation than I am: "He would be a role player. He will land at either Nebraska, South Dakota, or UNO. Tim Miles really likes him." Quote
Huskerpapa Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 Would he be willing to walk on here? Quote
doc1394 Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 I remember watching him with his brother in the Class B state championship game against Beatrice. Ol' Jim Weeks chucked his clipboard across floor during that game. AuroranHusker 1 Quote
GATA Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 Would he be willing to walk on here? I hope it is as a walk-on. If not, something went wrong in recruiting. Quote
AuroranHusker Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 Familiarity w/ Miles & his system is certainly in Dwight Smith's favor if it boils down to a backup spot for Terran and/or a replacement for Ray (if DS can knock down triples & D up well), even so I'd imagine he's likely Plan G (but, Miles would never burn bridges as Plans A to F may not pan out for NU). Worth keeping an eye on if S. Dakota or UNO come calling as viable options for DS. Quote
atskooc Posted March 27, 2014 Report Posted March 27, 2014 I remember watching him with his brother in the Class B state championship game against Beatrice. Ol' Jim Weeks chucked his clipboard across floor during that game. Ralston doubled Menke each and every time he touched the ball, regardless of court position. They did this all three times they played that year and Ralston won all three, each by a small margin. Quote
husker11 Posted March 28, 2014 Report Posted March 28, 2014 I would be all for it if he's a 3 point shooter. That's our second biggest need right now Quote
*Deleted Account* Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 If a current guard transferred, I don't think any will, than miles will absolutely bring in smith. If they don't find a big man transfer or a player they like from HS than smith will be a nice experienced veteran and solid teamate to bring in for 1 year. Excellent defensive player and all-around solid player. Quote
lanigan123 Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 If I'm this kid I run to South Dakota. Quote
Nafreksuh Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 Smith would be a very good addition and a nice way to use what will probably be an open scholly for us. His avgs. don't really tell the story of the player he is. Here are a couple of articles that give a bit of perspective. http://www.coloradoan.com/article/20140316/COLUMNISTS149/303160072/matt-stephens-column?nclick_check=1 http://www.collegian.com/2014/03/albertson-dwight-smith-stands-out-in-loss/70097/#UFgkEWtSlxzxIkVP.01 Also, keep in mind he knows Miles' expectations and he is a Nebraska kid. Would be a good fit even though it's no necessarily one of our positions of need. Quote
gobigredbrah Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 Averaging 2.9 ppg on 36% FG shooting and 22% 3-point shooting for Northern Colorado http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/51693/dwight-smith Probably the reason Miles didn't go after him Quote
