One of my sons sent me a Shatel column from March 5 on the 1994 team. It is a good read and maybe someone should post a link here. If it is already up somewhere dimes can delete this thread.

Frankly I'm surprised there hasn't been some sort of formal recognition on the University's part regarding this squad. Maybe they don't want to detract from what's happening NOW, and I get that. Hopefully after the season they'll be a tip of the cap. They've earned it.

What a lovely flood of memories that article brings up.

Absolutely loved going to the Big 8 tournament at Kemper Arena. Great mix of crowds. Oh how the Big XII ruined it!

I remember that weekend so, so fondly; Maybe not so vividly. My poor liver, God bless it, probably not so fondly.

We really needed a win that first day to get off of the bubble. To do it against Billy Tubbs, with that d-bag Curry on their team who had taunted us at Devany that year, was a pleasure. Pike just lighting it up like a legend was awe inspiring. 'We can beat anyone with Pike,' was the feeling.

I recall Donnie (Ice-T) Boyce giving the arrogant Jayhawk fans a scare on day one. Came so close to knocking them out. Oh those pitful Buffaloes! No CU fans EVER there. Ever! What would be the point really. Everyone wanted to play them on the first day. So funny sitting next to KU fans absolutely soiling themselves.

We bumped into Kent Pavelka down at Westport. Boy were we happy to see him. I'm pretty sure we scared him.

Only having tickets for day 1, since traditionally we always lost on day 1, we stumbled upon one of lifes simple pleasures, which was approaching fans decked out in losing teams garb and smugly asking them for their day 2 tickets, which they no longer needed. Reactions would range from, 'Go away prick' to 'I'll sell them for face' to 'I sure as hell don't need them, here'.

The beatdown on Missouri in their backyard was surreal. Hated Jevon Crudup so much, but can't exactly recall why now. No Tigers or Jayhawks in the final meant tickets were unloading like nobodys buisness. Another great night at Westport.

By the start of the OSU game, my liver could take no more. It was time for it to be over. The elation of winning was more than enough to provide relief. Never had I had such an enjoyable drive back from K.C.

Other than running into Kent Pavelka we must've been in close proximity. Good times indeed. Always had fun with the ISU fans at Kelly's in Westport.

Had forgotten that the regular season Big 8 record that season was 7-7, although I do recall in vivid detail the sham job at Mizzou to end the regular season (w/ Stormin' Norman gettin' his 14-0 at NU's expense)!!  What joy there was when Nebrasketball knocked off Billy Tubbs, Norm Stewart & Eddie Sutton over the course of the 3 days of that glorious 1994 Big 8 Conference Tournament! It's good to be back in the hunt in 2014.

How was that 20 years ago.  Man I'm getting old.

Those teams in 90-91, 93-94 were really good.  Each was just missing one key component.  The 90-91 team didn't have a PG & the '93-'94 team didn't have anything inside (other than Chubick who was forced to play out of position).

Then that '95-'96 team had all the potential but just fell apart.  When you look at that roster all the pieces were there.

-Lue at point with Wald backing him up

-Strick & Boone at the off guards

-Garner & Badgett at the forwards

-Mikki Moore & Venson Hamilton inside

The wheels just fell off for Danny & it was an epic fail how he lost that team.  The NIT championship probably saved his job.
