redsteve Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) 3 things... My preseason concern was replacing Issie. Potts has done it in one game. Best newbie we've had in years. The new asst. coaches have made a real impact in the way we play. Play much tougher defense. And the full court defense I really think the asst's had a lot to do with it. Markowski and Jaz have developed a real sense of chemistry... of what each other will do. And can be real smooth as a team. (Jazz and Issie had that last year.) Markowski team and game high 17 pts and about 13 re-bonds for a double -double. Potts 15 pts and 6-7 shooting And....... we needed a competitive game before we hit some tougher schedule. Cazzie22 Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 It was nice to watch a game for free on the Mountain West Network. What a concept! This game bothered me, why do we take out players who are going well? Potts and White were our most effective players early and when they were out Wyoming caught up in the first half. Hake is a liability on defense though Wyoming was allowed to extend screens in half court offense. Alexis woke up in the 4th quarter after being a non factor other than rebounding. We are going to need Petrie to develop as the sub for Potts. She had a nice first half. Moriarity had some nice assists and defends well. Jaz was Jaz. Potts is rapidly becoming my favorite player. She savvy, tough and just knows how to play! White gives us one player who can beat her opponent off the drive. Need to have a great week to prepare for Creighton. The Jays will make open shots. 12dozen and All About the Corn 2 Quote
All About the Corn Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 Agree taking out our hot effective players because they have reached some sort of minutes mark does hurt us at times. Potts just has a great sense for the game. She will have her freshman moments but do not expect there to be many. Quote

Frequent substitution are needed at that altitude if the body is not used to it. 12dozen, Merlin, Bugeaters1 and 2 others 2 3 Quote
All About the Corn Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 Yes I did see it. I also agree with subbing more at that level. But there is a fine line and I think Amy has shown to sometimes be too quick. Last night did show we have more talent. Also think our athleticism showed. After all was said and done we got the win. Ready to move on to Tuesday. Quote

(been there too) You can feel it in breathing...especially if active. Takes a couple of days there to begin to get acclimated. Cazzie22 1 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 I am certain altitude was in Coach Williams mind with her substitution pattern. However, I have been a constant critic of her penchant for substituting just because it’s in the rotation. I can recall several times when Leigha Brown was going great and she was taken out. HUD Posted November 11, 2023 Report Posted November 11, 2023 It was a very good win but two things bothered me last night. First of all ever since we lost Allison W. for the year I have been concerned as to who would step up and take over the 3 position. With Maddie K. hurt we have three players that have an opportunity. Kendall M., Logan N. and Kendall Coley. Even though it has only been 2 regular games against easier competition no one in my mind has done so to this point. For example combined stats on those three for two games are 2 for 21 FG which is less than 10% including 1 for 15 from 3pt. 0 free throws shot and not very many rebounds. We need Maddie K. to get healthy ASAP. The other thing was the blown opportunity to take a time out when Wyoming was on a 10 point run in the second quarter. She admitted in her post game interview to that mistake. Not the first time that has happened. All About the Corn, Cazzie22, whoopdeedoo and 1 other 4 Quote

I really enjoy looking at the plus/minus. I was a bit surprised Hake was only minus 2. She got burnt a couple of times, sagging in with help defense, just to have the ball kick out to the 3 line, and not getting back out in time to cover. Wonder if she was doing as directed, or just out of position? Quote
