WYOMING GAME DAY THREAD

It has been awhile since I enjoyed watching a game as much as yesterday.  No drama.  Little suspense.  Sam was back.  Mendelson made her first appearance and shined. What impressed me most; when she made a play, everyone around her smiled and was excited.  Thanks ladies.  That was fun.

- Do not expect the same Sam.  She will help, but she is definitely less mobile.  I personally will take what we can get.

- Maggie has a ways to go...but she is a good one.  Really good one.  Funny though, on more than one rebound, she went up and "spiked" the ball rather than grab it.

Have to let her ease out of the v-ball mindset and into the b-ball mindset!  It's probably much more fun trying to smack the ball into an opposing players face.

No, No! I think you got this All Wrong! I don't think the idea is to smack it into an opponents face (it might bounce back ).

Without a doubt... it's a huge intimidation factor. Makes the opposition not want to come into the lane and get swatted.

Have seen it happened many times..at all levels of BBall, clear down to elementary school age.

Per Huskers.com,  Alexis Markowski earned the first Big Ten Player-of-the-Week award of her career after producing 22 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high-matching three blocks in the Nebraska women's basketball team's 66-39 win over Wyoming on Sunday.

The 6-3 center from Lincoln, who is on the Preseason Lisa Leslie Award Watch List, hit 9-of-14 shots from the field, including 4-of-5 three-pointers against the Cowgirls.

Markowski, who scored the game's first seven points to put Nebraska in the driver's seat from start to finish against Wyoming, was the 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and an eight-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week last season.

Her performance against Wyoming came against 2022 Mountain West Freshman of the Year Allyson Fertig. Markowski limited the 6-4 Fertig to just four points and five rebounds on 2-of-7 shooting. Three of Fertig's five misses were blocked.

Markowski and the Huskers close non-conference play at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday by battling No. 20 Kansas. Tip-off between the Huskers and Jayhawks is set for 6 p.m. with tickets available now at Huskers.com.

As mentioned before, Alexis is currently leading the  B1G conference in rebounding. As a sophomore no less. 

 

Other teams will be keying their defenses to stop her...and Jazz and Weidner....When they do that it opens up the other guards...welll...everyone else to score. 

Makes it tough  for defenses. 

 

Don't you love it.

It is difficult at best to focus on stopping more than one player.  For example to stop a big, you likely focus on doubling that big in the post.  If it is Alexis, do you deny or double her at the top of the key.  Likely not.  Point being is that keying in on one player usually leaves open looks.  Trying to do thst with two or three players will likely be catastrophic.   

So to your point, having three "go to" scorers should be extremely beneficial as we move through the remaining schedule.

Good point.  The set-winning point for Oregon in the ridiculously long set 4 was a rocket that hit the Oregon player in the shoulder and bounced over the net and NU couldn't cover, mostly, I think, because they thought there was no way that spike could ever be handled.  As they say, sometimes better to be lucky than good.
