All About the Corn Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 Taking a long lunch from work today. Looking forward to my first in person game action. 12dozen 1 Quote
redsteve Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 UNO's coach Banks is a newer head coach, has a good background, and is known as good recruiter, and is in the process of building the team. We'll see how they've progressed. We, on the other hand need to jell fairly quickly, as the Creighton game isn't far away. Time for the game faces to appear ! May get a clearer picture of the guard situation ? . 12dozen 1 Quote
12dozen Posted November 7, 2022 Author Report Posted November 7, 2022 Nice half. Good team effort. I'm surprised Shelley only has 2 rebounds. Seemed like she got several in a row, early in the game. Trinity looks healthy. She provided excellent help defense. Izzie, Weidner, Markowski, Jazz, all in good form. That was fun. Quote
Red Don Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 (edited) Per Matt Coatney Nailah Dillard is in street clothes. Guess she must still be recovering from her injuries and isn't cleared to play yet. Dillard and Sam Haiby, also recovering from surgery, are the only two Huskers on the roster that haven't seen the floor today (Well Mendelson too who hasn't switched over from Volleyball as long as their season is still in progress). I was hoping Dillard would be able to play since today is her birthday! Maybe she is getting close since WBB is sending out her Tweets! Edited November 7, 2022 by Red Don Quote

Cazzie22 Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 Nice win over an overmatched opponent. We clearly had a size advantage at the 4 which Bourne took advantage. We love shooting the three. I was impressed with Weidner and her hustle to the glass. We will know more after we play Creighton which will be a check of our mental and physical toughness. 12dozen 1 Quote

Huskerpapa Posted November 7, 2022 Report Posted November 7, 2022 Man, we looked good today. Also, Sam was walking around without a wrap and with barely a limp. whoopdeedoo, Cazzie22, 12dozen and 3 others 4 2 Quote
redsteve Posted November 8, 2022 Report Posted November 8, 2022 Yes, the opponent wasn't much of an opponent, but we were way to deep for them. For what ever it's worth we made them look like they did...been a few years ago, we didn't open so confident. Like mentioned already.....Issie and Allison are at their next level. You kind of knew Issie had it in her, but the "freshman" is long gone in Weidner. Both played great. Krull will be a huge asset this year. Hake is a scrappy little guard,...,not a lot of shy freshman showing. Brady, Annika, and everyone else were ready to play...no wake me up when the lights come on. Nice first game all in all. Let the 3's rain down the bucket :) 12dozen, HUD, Red Don and 2 others 1 4 Quote
All About the Corn Posted November 8, 2022 Report Posted November 8, 2022 (edited) Granted UNO did not offer much of a test for us but when that happens we should win in a dominant fashion. It appears Issie is starting where she left off from last year. I expected Allison to show much improvement from last year. I did notice Alexis was getting heat (??) when she went to the bench for her back. Hopefully just something minor. Nice game from Krull yesterday. Not sure who listened to the post game presser from Issie and Maddie but you can tell she is happy to be home and with this group as they are with her. Maybe it was Sam that asked her and Amy her role, namely coming off the bench being a scorer ( well it was done before). Thought both handled it well considering Amy knows and maybe Maddie as it was a reference to Leigha Brown. Also liked seeing the girls sitting together rather that by front court and back court as we have seen since Amy has been here. Looking forward to Friday. whoopdeedoo Posted November 8, 2022 Report Posted November 8, 2022 (edited) i admit i was wrong about Issie....i didn't think she would end up being too big of a threat from 3 (as stated from the start of last season). i do enjoy when they prove me wrong i see Creighton defeated SDSU 78-69 AT Frost Arena. not an easy thing to do. SDSU was missing their top two pg's. Edited November 8, 2022 by whoopdeedoo Red Don and Cazzie22 2 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted November 8, 2022 Report Posted November 8, 2022 I will add that we looked like a "team" yesterday. Not sure how to explain that in detail; but the cohesiveness jumped out at me. It also appears that a number of the players have the ability to carry the team for prolonged minutes as necessary. We will be a hard team to defend as a result. whoopdeedoo, Cazzie22 and Red Don 2 1 Quote

We will be a hard team to defend as a result. I notice it too. KInda think "experience" playing (together) on D1 level is the factor. This may be Coach Amy's first team with a full (nearly) experienced roster. About two years together now. We had only one freshmen on the floor, but she didn't seem to have the deer in headlights look at all. .....No walk on's this year. Maddies new to the team, but has ton's of D1 expereince...plus a very high BBall IQ. Plus...and you might think I'm full of it.....Coach Cook has met with this team (and the coaches at other times) a couple of times this off season. One of his strenghts besides X's and O's... is developing a team strength of cohesiveness, toughness, keeping your head on straight, and sharing. Wanting other team mates to do well... no selfishness, I guess you could say. Anyway, Coach Amy's new team gives you that feeling too. .....IMHO anyway.
