I have a friend who is very close to the program but who can't post on here.  He has followed the recent discussions on here, and has asked someone to look into the following player statistics:

1.  Assist to turnover ratios;

2. Turnovers per minutes played;

3.  Rebounds per minutes played;

4.  Field goal percentages;

5.  Shot attempts per minutes played.

I assume the numbers will shed some light on production/non-production of players getting minutes, in perhaps a surprising fashion.  But I don't know that.  Don't have time today to comb those stats, but throw it out there upon request!  Have at it, women's hoops fans!

Well, if the answers to these questions are supposed to illuminate for us what some of the problems might be, we needn't look at the players at the very end of the bench, like Grace Mitchell, who has an abysmal 1:9 assist:turnover ratio.  So, let's confine our number crunching (and save some time) to those with at least 150 minutes on the season.  And, if we do that ...

1.  The grand champion for worst assist:turnover ratio would be Jessica Shepard with a nearly 1:2 assist:turnover ratio (20 assists:39 turnovers).  Runner-up is nowhere close to being as bad and that would be Allie Havers with basically a 3:4 assist:turnover ratio (13 assists:16 turnovers).  (If we look at the whole bench, Darien Washington leads this category with 1 assist and 20 turnovers in 138 minutes.)

2.  Turnovers per minute played winner is ... also Jess Shepard with 1 turnover every 8 minutes.  Havers, who was 2nd worst on assist:turnover ratio was nowhere close on this one as she only turns the ball over once every 18.5 minutes.

3.  Rebounds per minute is ... also Jessica Shepard.  (Maybe rebounding her own misses?  See #5).  Jessica averages 1 rebound every 2.6 minutes she plays.

4.  In the category of FG%, the winner is Nicea Eliely, who's knocking them down at a rate of exactly 50% from the floor.  Second in this category is Jess Shepard who, for a big, isn't exactly scorching the nets at 44% shooting (which figure only improves to 44.5% if you only look at her 2-pt shots.)

5.  Shot attempts per minute.  Well, this isn't even remotely surprising.  Jess Shepard.  She takes a shot every 1.67 minutes played.  The next most prolific shooter on the team is actually Hannah Whitish who lofts one every 3 minutes and then Jasmine Cincore who shoots the ball once every 3.4 minutes.  Cincore, by the way, is the worst %age shooter on the team next to Rylie Cascio Jensen, and that's out of everyone all the way to the end of the bench.  Yet, she has more attempts on the season than Eliely, who is our best %age shooter.

One other stat that jumps out at you, and this is in addition to those that HB's friend suggested looking up:  Jess Shepard accounts for nearly 30% of all the shots taken on the season.  By the entire team.  Among those getting starter's minutes, though, Shepard accounts for 42% of the shot attempts.  So, basically, when Jess Shepard is on the floor (and not turning the ball over) she's taking every other shot for the Huskers.

Fascinating.  Thanks for that suggestion, HB.  And thanks to whoever suggested to you that we should look at those numbers.

Interesting, Norm.  And this truly did come at someone's bequest; not any agenda from me.  It is interesting that our bigs have so many turnovers.  Often a team that turns it over a lot would have high numbers of turnovers from the guards.  This team's bigs turn it over a lot.

Am I crazy to feel like Cincore doesn't help with team chemistry at all? I just don't like her attitude at all every since she been here. I feel bad for the freshman because I just don't think the upper classmen give a rats A** about each other. Its how I feel about this team. After all the crazy stuff that happened last year  I just don't think everyone agrees with what happened.

I just hope Nicea or Shepard don't transfer out of here!!!

Not that it matters to anyone here....and I'm certainly not saying Cincore is a problem....but back in my coaching days....it only took one to sour team chemistry.

As for Jess shooting a lot...would guess she's been cleared to do that....when our guards, over all, aren't producing points, you have to use the best card in your hand.

My biggest issue with Jess is taking shots where the clean shot just isn't there...thus low shooting percentage for a big in the paint. We're so desperate for points all the time....we're  grasping at straws so to speak.

And I still see a vastly improved defense as being the biggest need

The coach can be heard tonight on Huskers Sports Nightly along with Husker Olympic Bronze medal winner Danielle Page for an hour long show starting at 8:00 pm.

Should be interesting to hear the coaches perspective on the way her team is performing.

So did last year's. Shepard's turnover/assist ratio is about the same as last season, as is her assists and TOs per game.

This team doesn't have Romeo and Theriot. Without either of them, Shepard was going to have tougher sledding shooting. Eilely has been a nice surprise - she'll be on Big Ten's All Freshman team, I'd bet - but she's just one player to Theriot/Romeo's two players, and not as experienced as either.

Sam, since you're the beat writer for women's hoops for the OWH, I'm sure you'll have some comments on this statement by the lead sports columnist for the World Herald:  "But his (Eichorst's) women's basketball hire looked rushed and uninspired".    Thoughts?

Need I remind them they're 30-12 and still on the losing end in this rivalry. The following is some of the reasons of why I despise creighton.  Have you ever seen a Husker team gloat on social media after beating them? #inferiorcomplex

They don't win gracefully.
