btw, anyone know who planned the BTN pre-game "punch-your-ticket" skit that Stollings and minny did? does BTN help in that or is that all minny? just thought that was about the cheesiest pre-game intro i have ever seen. jmo. even some of the players looked like "really?"
-
ditto!!! the team went out and did it! big time! soooo happy for all of them. as some of you may have read, i was really concerned about this game. Minny came in playing some pretty darn good ball. i think the huskers have adjusted very well to not having RT out there with them. gosh that was fun to watch on tv. especially the start of the second half. that big run took any "starch" out that minny might have had left in them. GBR!
-
no doubt this group of seniors deserve huge support for their final 2 games at PBA. i really do hope things "click" for them the rest of the way.
-
gonna have to block out. body on AZB at all times. stay out of long droughts (scoring). best thing to try---see if you can get AZB in foul trouble. huskers can win, but, gonna take a huge effort. without rachel, think minny will be too strong. goofers win 8+

ahhhhh. maybe she will be around only 1 more year. i would think she would come back for next year since rachel banham decided she would return. if minny hits on all cylinders for most of next year, could be special. still think maryland will repeat, but, wouldn't surprise me to see minny make a deep run in ncaa's.
-
don't believe i stated AZB would be national player of the year, just that she would get consideration. unless she tanks the last few games, i believe she has a great shot at being Big Ten POTY. 4th in scoring 18.6 1st in rebounds 12.7 5th in FG % .55 12th in FT% .76 1st in blocked shots 3.9 3rd off reb 3.6 1st in def reb 9.1 pretty impressive #'s for a sophomore i really think the # of coach's that wouldn't like to have her at the post would be very, very small. and, yes, watch out for OSU. afraid they are going to be really good for awhile. i think next year's top 3 to start the year will be Maryland, Minny, and OSU.
-
minny wins in 2OT. AZB 27 pts 27 rebounds. she is just a beast. would have to believe she is up for national player of the year, not to mention big ten player of the year. opposing teams have their handful for the next 2yrs not with just her, but, minny is going to be good. wagner (fr) is the real deal and if banham comes back full strength from knee surgery, holy cow. i would think pollsters will put them right behind Maryland for next year. btw, i don't care if Maryland goes undefeated, imo AZB would still beat out anyone on the Maryland team for big ten player of the year.

Nat proves, for the future, not someone you are going to want to put at the line---especially the final moments. Job well done!!! Closing moments were not pretty, though. shouldn't have been that close. saw a few times where i would have liked to see natalie try and take the ball to the hoop and create her shot, but, she will get more comfortable with that as time goes by. not much else to say about Sample and Cady. i liked what i saw when T moved in for mid-range jumper instead of settling for 3. as i figured---no Kalenta sighting.
-
really be disappointing if huskers can't grind out a win here (or there, i should say). on offense, i would start out trying to work the ball down to Cady and Sample. see if they can get anything going down low---or at least near the bucket. as far as Kalenta, i would be (pleasantly) surprised if she sees time. if she hasn't by now, don't know why yori would today----unless blowout either way.
-
somebody have any info on the schollie situation (as far as the 2 from the page's)? coach yori wouldn't use either for next season, would she? according to prospectsnation.com the 6'7" gal from Texas is still available, but, has to be something very wrong there for her not to have signed somewhere----like grades? her bio states she could be the next dominant center in the game. otherwise, doesn't appear to be much left out there, in need anyway. i see she gave her verbal to Cincinnati (according to espn).
-
Tip o'the hat, Rachel! Best wishes and on to next year!
-
just glad they got Rachel's diagnosis and repaired the injury. shame the seniors won't finish with Rachel, but, it is what it is. on to rehab and get ready for next year.

i believe sunny smallwood was known as a strong recruiter. did shimmy take over her responsibilities now? coach yori seems to be a strong recruiter, but, i am not really in tune with the husker recruiting game. just wonder if anyone has anything they can add as far as husker recruiting staff?

Chandler Smith is shooting .231% from the floor, 2-18 from 3pt for .111% and is 3-9 from the free throw line for .33% not good. probably won't see much improvement this season. while i like her movement on the floor, she seems very natural out there, her court awareness needs to improve. a couple of those drives against wisconsin had me scratching my head. she should have realized she wasn't going to be able to put the ball up. should have looked to kick it back out. don't think she has adjusted well, so far, to the college game. totally agree on your Kalenta comments.
-
unfortunately, i understand your comments, huskerchode. almost everything good that has come to this team has been a real battle. i am beginning to wonder if we are now seeing results of that. it seems like they may be running on fumes.
-
the way things have developed, (and i say this with all respect to Ana Kalenta) her not seeing any time, for how long now? it speaks volumes to me. evidently there is the belief she can't help the team. listening to coach yori a couple weeks ago, when she was asked about Kalenta, i could tell in her voice she was careful of her words. just my opinion. not saying she couldn't develop enough to get some minutes next year, but, sure looks like a bust for this season. and that surprises me, although i can only go by the couple times i saw her play. i thought she may give the huskers some good minutes.
-
almost everyone has coach/parent stories. while coach paige is responsible for his actions, i wondered if there wasn't some involvement from parents, too. as far as an "available job" at nebraska. i could see where there might have been a position discussed between coach yori and the father. i just believe it may have went along the lines of "yes, there is a position available and you can fill out the necessary paperwork and we will consider it along with the other applicants." i just can't believe anybody promised anybody anything---IF it even came up. wow. sounds like a pretty big mess.
-
completely agree. i think Maryland will be the favorite once again, but, the two teams i think have a very good chance to be right behind them will be OSU and Minnesota. will be too many questions going into the season for the huskers.
-
crazy. about a month or so ago, i was kind of questioning if that situation between coach yori and the pages could have been handled better on both sides. kind of a normal reaction i would say when you aren't privy to any inside knowledge. as far as kansas, it must have been pretty ugly. without knowing any details, i have to feel for his daughters. wonder what the mother is thinking? wish the best for all involved and hope his daughters get things pointed in the right direction. seems they may need some strong advice.

Chandler Smith reminds me of Moore so far. But maybe Nat will change my mind. Love how Smith playes the game......just needs to become a scorer smith looks pretty smooth on the floor. pretty natural for her. i have only been able to see a couple games on BTN where she got some good minutes---and a number of the shots missed pretty bad (in her defense, she may have gotten fouled on at least one). it did puzzle me somewhat because i thought she was coming in as a scorer. hopefully she will make big progress in that area come next year.
-
IF rachel is done, taking away that stability she has brought to that position will be tough to manage throughout the final stretch. nothing shocking in that statement. not to take anything away from romeo, smith, and/or cincore. the experience is just not there. gonna need ALL to step it up. hate to say it, but, i think any of these games could go either way now.

http://www.pressboxonline.com/2015/02/13/q-a-maryland-womens-basketball-coach-brenda-frese remember when she left minnesota. fans of the gophers were none to pleased she left after being there for only 9 months. her parting comment didn't do her any favors either. i don't remember her exact quote that was in the paper, but, she stated she wanted to be somewhere where you can win championships. inferring she wouldn't be able to do that in minnesota. while it may be true, probably not a wise comment to make.

crap, i thought PSU would knock off the gophers. need to go for a couple upsets Purdue Illinois Iowa Michigan Nebraska Maryland
