Funny how the light switch flipped on after Trev and Fred had their talk. Maybe the kids seeing their coach taking the heat caught their attention and they responded by fighting for him….who knows. It seems like the kids have Fred’s back. What I hope is that whatever galvanized the team is taking root and we are seeing the culture we want in our program bloom before our very eyes. Our kids are becoming hard nosed and tough. It’s almost surreal considering the hot garbage we were watching not even a month ago. I was watching McPherson and he seems like he takes a big leadership role on the sidelines. I hope he is able to step in for Verge next year and be a leader on the court.

Sanogo is a man in the paint. Even though he was off shooting he had 14 or so boards and 5 blocks. We don’t have a guy like that on the roster currently. Too bad we were the bridesmaid when the staff thought we had him locked up.

uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 14; ed 28 - vs. Iowa

Didn’t Iowa look suspiciously like how we want to look as a team? Positionless basketball without a conventional center? -
Robin Washut - Derrick Walker

It has to be Keita. Having a rim protector changes the whole defense. Players won’t have to dig down when a post entry pass is made, and if they get beat on the drive they have help from the shot blocker. Keisei’s foot speed is adequate; his problem is bigger guards can take him to the hole. That’s where a shot blocker can make up for that. Wilcher is the opposite, he has size but slow foot speed. Again having a shot blocker helps. Look at Creighton and Kalkbrenner. Nembhard is smaller than Keisei but when he gets taken to the whole he has an elite shot blocker backing him up. Hate to put it all on Keita but we need a difference maker at that spot, because we don’t have elite defensive players on the perimeter….I’d actually categorize them as below average (assuming Trey is not coming back) -

I tend to agree on the transfers. Tominaga has to be horribly frustrated at this point. He never gets the ball when he is open, then he will Jack a questionable three, then benched for the rest of the game. Andre is a project but has promise, but it is looking like a numbers game in the post. -

I think step 1 is coaching has to improve. Our guys have to be improve a lot in the technical aspects of the game and be assignment sound on defense. Having a good point guard probably goes right after that. -
oooh….another stat to track!

That year we lost to Kansas by one point. If we won that game we were in the tourney. One basket killed our resume….

i’d be excited/optimistic with a new coach because there would be hope. However, I would be watching closely to see if the coach has a plan that makes sense and to see signs of progress. Progress will generally reflect in the W-L record over time.

wait….WHAT?!?! My Nebrasketball doldrums have severely dulled my senses to what is going on in the outside world. Interesting….the article confirms he IS a prick.

I would like Altman but I think we missed our window. Ed Cooley would be very interesting. My only question about him would be fit because of his east coast roots. His teams are physical and play their asses off…would be a nice change if he could instill that culture here. I like Devries but wonder if he would take this job, as alluded to by OmahaHusker. Mike Anderson is funny. I always though “meh” when his name came up last time. When I look at his career performance, I would kill to have his level of success. Perception is a funny thing. I feel like Turgeon would be a bit of a hire like Mike Riley. Best years are behind him. i used to really like Greg Marshall. Guy seems like a prick but Wichita played a very hard nosed style under him. The last few years they have been slipping so not sure how I feel about him at the moment.

We know a thing or two about “not easy buyouts”.

Chris Jans wouldn’t be crap without Teddy Allen. Oh wait….

There isn’t enough lipstick to put on this pig. Fred is mind blowingly bad. I honestly still have a hard time wrapping my head around it. The only thing that makes sense to me is not having a lieutenant that can keep the kids in line. Nobody is a disciplinarian on the team. And that is why we are horrible at the effort and fundamentals. I know this has been said many times before…I think saying it out loud is cathartic at this point.

Hopefully Tim makes better progress after year 1 than Fred.

I would like to thank everyone on this board for providing me with free group therapy for my Husker basketball issues.

Shut Up Sipple! - Why Fred Should have at least 5 years

i guess to me a good coach works around his players flaws to give them the best chance to win. Benching players is for repeated mental errors, not playing as a team or showing lack of effort. -

It’s bad when a sub 500 team can name the score… -
Nebraska (7-19) vs Northwestern (12-12)( +/-1) game thread

it seems like Fred gets so mad at Bryce for launching 30 foot threes that he benches Tominaga for the rest of the game -

Keeping Up with Old Friends (The Transferred Thread)
busticket replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Great question. It really is hard to tell without knowing about the player as an individual. Walker’s free throw and FG percentages are really his biggest improvement, with the PPG following. Is it coaching and development, him busting his hump on his own (like a Jerry Rice), or experience from actually playing last year paying dividends? -

That’s fair. On paper Lat looked like an upgrade over Cross. In reality, I’d take Kevin every day of the week and twice on Sundays over Lat. -
Don’t forget to say hi to Shang Ping when we get there.
