2024-25 Preseason Poll of the Week: Who leads the team in assists
Vinny replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I also went with Rollie. I expect Ahron to contribute positively to the team this year. But as you said, he had been in the program for a year and we went and prioritized Rollie in the portal. That’s why I voted for Rollie. -
It’s a sad day when you think there is basketball news but there isn’t, and no one has even died.

Well, just wait until next August and try FSU25, ND25 or whatever other schools are next into the fold.
-
If I wasn’t given a score I would have guessed Black won by about 10. We’re gonna have real depth this year.

Is he down to zero children playing for or committed to him?

Can’t wait for the ‘ole Gene Parmesan surprise on this one.

I hope we don’t switch to man in the last five seconds of the shot clock, if that’s what we did last year. It felt like we gave up a lot of late shot clock baskets after good defensive possessions.

I get that, I’m saying if an organization he hasn’t worked out for, I can pry get more value from drafting and trading him to a team his dad wants him on. Players get drafted into the NBA and paid by a franchise, but their employer is still the NBA and their employment is subject to terms of the CBA between the NBA and NBPA. He can go to any team, even if he refused to work out for them. Also, Ayton and CP3 are no longer in Phoenix.

I was talking about this the other day with my wife who is a bigger NBA fan than college basketball fan. If you’re a team like the Spurs or Trailblazers with multiple early picks, why wouldn’t you use a mid second round pick on Bronny and get more back in a trade than the pick you just spent? You know he’s only trying to get to wherever his dad is.

I understand this. I also don’t consider anything said on here a shot at him because he’s not here. Feels an appropriate place to vent frustrations about things like this rather than directly at him on social media or elsewhere.

Isn't your stance on players getting paid and bouncing from school to school for better paychecks almost the opposite of this? I think as a former Husker, fans had higher expectations for how his tenure would go than it did. Less than three years here, leaving with a giant stadium project falling apart and friction created between the athletic department and just about every relevant body tangential to it.

If I could change some things about college basketball...
Vinny replied to KZRider's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This reminds me of one of Hunter S. Thompsons articles he wrote for ESPN.com back in the early 00’s. His suggestions for improving baseball: allow steroids, eliminate the pitcher and have a machine pump 100mph fastballs down the pipe and let everyone tee off. -
How did Painter miss this kid? Listed at 7’9” on Florida’s roster. https://247sports.com/player/olivier-rioux-46137939/

This could get hairy. Sometimes you’re behind and want to foul right away and it’s deliberate. The refs know it’s deliberate, and they call it right away. You can’t call the game different for teams that are winning vs losing. -

You get four timeouts and inbound the ball what, 50 times? If you want to use those very valuable timeouts to save a turnover, fine. You’ll have 46 other chances to not get it inbounded in time. -
Right now we have six Q4 games in non-con. I doubt any conference games will be Q4, and last year we had seven Q4 games for the season. I think it’ll be alright.

Step Aside, NIL. NCAA Is Here To Save College Sports

We should approach Uber or Lyft to be a sponsor and as part of the deal, they offer free rides to athletes and coaches anytime. Especially for the kids, they’re about to have a bunch more money but still have underdeveloped frontal cortices. -
Fred “The Shot Whisperer” Hoiberg found a couple things to fix in Worster’s stroke. Chalk him up for 36-38% from three.
-
I wouldn’t be surprised to have 9 or 10 in the rotation, if those players are bringing positive play to the court. We had 8 last year and I think Ulis and Keita, would have found minutes if they didn’t have things keeping them off the court.

I get the sense we want Gary playing less of the 4 this year. If Berke is the defender Fullbacksympathy described over the Berke is N thread, then I think you see him start. This is who I think will start and the players I think that will also get minutes at those spots depending on matchups/foul trouble. 1 - Worster (Ulis, Sam) 2 - Brice (Essegian, Sam) 3 - Gary (Griffiths, Brice) 4 - Berke (Gary, Morgan) 5 - Morgan (Meah, Berke) Starting, that’s two real three point threats and two guys you have to at least respect on the perimeter. And it’s three playmakers on the perimeter/wing. No one under 6’ 4” in the starting lineup. Any Berke minutes at the 5 would be due to foul trouble or an opponent going very small. Meah provides a defensive spark off the bench inside, while Sam brings it on the perimeter. Griffiths and Essegian provide shooting and more length off the bench. If Essegian is back to his freshman form, he could knock Berke out of starting and move Brice and Gary to the 3 and 4. But again, I don’t think we want to start with Gary at the 4.

Just a minute? Honestly pry not different from most other campuses.
