Yep, KU people aren't nearly as high on this team as the national media is. -
KenPom 2023-2024 KenPom Rankings Thread

The Hunter Dickinson Kansas hype is weird. He's a very good player. But Michigan had NBA players around him last year and did nothing. This Kansas team has a lot of deficiencies. No shooters and no depth. Hunter needs shooters around him. They have the best transition point guard in America, but Dickinson is not a lob threat. I live in Kansas, and the thought here is their top 4 players played about as well as they could've played the other night, yet still lost to Illinois. -
Jamarques reminds me of Gary Harris when he was at Michigan State. He won't have the highlight reel dunks. Similar style player though.
-
Someone else who attended practice last week said Uhlis and Gary on the scout team were giving the "starters" fits. You agree?

Doane v Nebraska score predictions
millerhusker replied to Huskerpapa's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
JL, Keisei, CJ, Brice, Matar. No doubt. -
He got beat up pretty good by a former all-american linebacker. That is significant. I wouldn’t expect anyone who is banged up to play in a game that doesn’t count for anything.
-
We’re fine. Mast and Allick are fine. Juwan will be fine. Ramel wouldn’t be in the rotation if healthy. Blaise is what it always has been and will be.
-
All except the UCONN transfer will still have an extra year of eligibility. I'm not getting my hopes up. Nothing wrong with having CJ and JL keep putting in a good word for us, though.
-
I like how Fred snuck in a Simeon Wilcher mention. St. John’s has a deep team with a lot of guards. We’re gonna need another point guard next year…
-
I'd like to admit that I was very wrong about Keisei Tominaga. I thought his absolute ceiling was Cary Cochran, and I thought that was a compliment to him. Wasn't sure he'd ever be a consistent starter here. Now he's being talked about as possibly the best shooter in America and an all-american darkhorse. I'm going to the store to buy an Athlon magazine just to see a Husker basketball player listed in one of their top 10 categories. Granted, Matej Kavas was on that list a few years ago. But this is different.

Agreed. In AAU ball Cale really struggled against length and quickness, which is why he didn't get any offers. He has great size for a college point guard. Sam is a better athlete imo. Just obviously lacks size. The biggest thing with Sam is the game at this level is not too fast for him. There are plenty of big, athletic players who never adjust to the speed of the game at the college level. The game never slows down for them, so they aren't able to make quick decisions and PLAY fast.
-
Fair enough. I agree the talented young players will get early opportunities. I think they'll have shorter leashes this year than in a typical Nebrasketball season. If they can't consistently make good decision and "simple plays", we'll either shorten the rotation or we know what we have in Sam H. and Blaise, if healthy. This team has some goals to achieve and the margin for error is likely thin. That said, if Eli is ready and earns a spot in the rotation, that would be fantastic. 6'8" 215, athletic kid who can shoot it. Seems too good to be true for us.
-
Even if Eli is the best freshman on the team, I'm not sure the minutes are there for him this year. The path for Eli to enter the regular rotation seems to be either he beats out CJ for a spot or there is an injury. But the staff loves CJ. Could be wrong, but I just don't think we're going to have an 11 man rotation. If Blaise has limited to no availability, there is an opportunity for Matar to have the same role Blaise had last year ~10 mpg, sometimes 20+ min., sometimes no minutes depending on the opponent.

Glynn Watson was so underrated and underappreciated.
-
Eduardo Andre could've. But he didn't really feel like it.
-
Goodness. I didn't realize Stevens stayed at CSU. Thought he entered the portal. That kid is a stud and one of the better player in college basketball that nobody knows about.

50 points and 14 assists in 23 minutes to that point. I like that a lot. The second half didn't go as well, as I think Fred was experimenting more with lineups after halftime. JL started at PG in the first half. The three players that started both halves were Brice, Josiah and Keisei.
-
Would’ve been the start of the 2nd half, as Boogie and Diop both started after “halftime” when the score went back to 0-0. The board there says Nebraska had, to that point, 2 fouls, 22 rebounds, 14 assists, 8 turnovers, 3 steals and 0 blocks. Keisei apparently went off with 22 points in the first half.
-
Here’s to hoping we won’t need help from a 5’10” small forward who was Omaha Westside’s 5th or 6th best player.
-
That was the original word. Now Washut is saying it's tomorrow at 11am.

Can honestly say I was not optimistic going into that season. We had some very good players, but success during those years was not sustainable for schematic reasons. I voiced that opinion to fellow Nebrasketball fans at that time and it wasn't received well. Norm, I think I remember you saying awhile back that (paraphrasing) the February-ish version of last year's team would beat any post-Nee Husker team, yeah? And it wasn't just because of the win/loss results. There's clearly a different feel when you're watching a legitimate good basketball team than watching a "flash in the pan" team temporarily riding momentum (see 2023 Colorado football).

This is why I hope Hoiberg gets the rotation figured out quickly. Can’t afford to mess around with any of the early cupcakes on the schedule. -

21-10 with a win over probable top 5 Creighton and you're an 8/9 seed. -

100% agree. Call me a grumpy ol curmudgeon but I'd much rather watch this format than watch Cam Mack shoot arrows into the crowd, Walter Pitchford try to be a point guard and Leslee Smith think he's a three point specialist. This was boring by design. We've done the all-star thing in the past and it just made you cringe. -
Something that has gone completely unnoticed is the fact that Henry Burt was listed at 6'4" on the roster last year and is now 6'7"!
