  1. There are a whole lot of combo guards, and plenty of just "shooting guards", in high major college basketball who aren't shooters (which is unfortunate to watch as a fan). Just for a Nebraska example, Bandoumel was a poor shooter throughout his college career and played shooting guard at SMU and combo guard at Nebraska. He also wasn't big enough to guard 1-4/5. From what I saw from Sallis this year, he is absolutely a high major player (and I thought he was over-ranked out of high school). His numbers at Gonzaga don't worry me at all. They were better than the numbers Petteway, Palmer and White put up at their previous schools. If you watched Gonzaga, you could see he's a very good player. Intelligent, coachable, doesn't turn the ball over, converts inside the arc, good free throw shooter and tenacious defender. These are the types of players Nebraska needs to be successful. We aren't going to get the most sought after players to come here. And when we do, they don't really help us in the win column.
  2. One or two of those guys wouldn't be in the regular rotation. But an elite perimeter defender who was Gonzaga's 7th man, and was often on the court to finish games, would see plenty of minutes at Nebraska.
  3. I just hope Lawrence sticks here. I think he has real star potential. His combination of skill, speed and confidence makes him a nightmare to defend. And he's already damn good on the defensive end, too.
  4. He'd guard the opposing team's best guard/wing and be a slashing guard who's capable of being a secondary ball handler. Why can't he and Keisei be on the court together, along with a point guard? In fact, his player archetype would be perfect alongside Keisei and either Kriisa/Hepburn. You'd have two higher volume guards who take most of their shots behind the arc. And Sallis, who won't demand shots on offense, but is very efficient inside the arc and a good free throw shooter. Would definitely play a significant role here. He played a significant role for Gonzaga. This is like last offseason trying to convince some people on here that Juwan Gary would be a significant contributor for Nebraska...
  5. Hunter’s mom played for San Diego State and now they are playing in the national championship tomorrow night.
  6. We could very well have had more visitors who just didn't announce on social media they're visiting. Washut didn't know Kriisa was visiting until he was in Lincoln and made an Instagram post about it. Shoot, I remember Derrick Walker committing to Nebraska while on a visit before anyone even knew we were recruiting him. Does anyone with Twitter want to do a little research and see if Jonathan Beagle is still only following Husker coaches?
  7. It helps when you have 2 of the top 10-15 players in the country. That was a "we're all in this together" situation, as it was an essentially entire new roster and coaching staff. As of right now, Nebraska has 7 players returning next year who, when healthy, all got significant playing time this year. Two more guys who redshirted and expect to be part of the rotation. If you add 4 transfers to that, it leaves you with 13 older guys. I think most coaches would tell you that can be a tougher situation cohesion-wise than building a whole new team, especially when you don't have all-american caliber talent to overcome any locker room issues. I'm not anti-transfer by any means, but ideally you'd do most of your team building through high school recruiting, and add one or two players from the portal who fit your culture each year. There are still many programs who do this (Michigan St, Iowa, Wisconsin, Creighton, Purdue, etc.). People remember the successful teams full of transfers, but for every one of those teams there are four similarly built teams that didn't come close to the level of their preseason hype. I suspect Kansas State will be in the latter group next year. Props to Tang for this year, but his schemes and in-game coaching weren't impressive to me and I think he will struggle there without his two all-americans.
  8. I'm hoping we add one more high school recruit to this class. If we add four transfers to our already established roster, I'm afraid we'd end up with a handful of unhappy players at some point next year, which could hurt team chemistry.
  9. I'd expect him to be a significant contributor right away. He averaged 12 ppg in Virginia's trip to Italy last summer. Then he chose to redshirt, bulked up to 235 pounds and was coached by Tony Bennett for a year.
  10. You should go back and watch any full game from that season and compare and contrast Mack and Cheatham’s effort on defense
  11. Perhaps. As long as he plays defense. One thing I never like from a lead guard is one who shoots low to mid 30’s from the field. BUT, he is not high volume. Improve his shot selection and should be ok there. One thing I really like is a point guard who comes from a winning program. He has started 70 games for one of the best programs in the country.
  12. Not sure how I feel about it. But he’s a guy who could average 8 or 9 assists per game under Hoiberg.
  13. Seems like a few of our top targets haven’t entered the portal yet
  14. This quite literally describes Grant Nelson. 6’11 ~240. He was all-defense first team this year. A frontcourt of Traudt (who has gained a lot of good weight this year) and Nelson would be bigger than most. Lawrence and Hepburn are very good to great perimeter defenders. The lineup you described could be pretty damn good defensively in our system. There were times this year we had Keisei, CJ and Wilhelm on the court together and still made the offense work very hard to get good looks.
  15. Sure, but after leaving UF he actually was "ours", briefly. Had an apartment set up for him and everything.
  16. Seems like most Big Ten teams play 17 home games, 11 away and 3 neutral. We played 15 home, 13 away and 3 neutral. Rutgers played 20 home games. Some power conference schools don't play any non-conference true road games. We have a great homecourt advantage and need to use it.
  17. My straightforward question is: is Grant Nelson one of those you’re hearing about?
  18. My rotation, as of now. Will change significantly as more guys leave and we start to add from the portal. Starters: G - Ramel Lloyd 6'6" G - Keisei Tominaga 6'2" G - Jamarques Lawrence 6'3" F - Juwan Gary 6'6" C - Blaise Keita 6'11" Bench rotation players: G - Quaran McPherson 6'3" G - Sam Hoiberg 6'0" G - CJ Wilcher 6'5" F - Wilhelm Breidenbach 6'10" Spot/situational minutes: G- Cale Jacobson 6'4" F - Eli Rice 6'7"
  19. Seems like too much smoke for him not to be leaving Virginia at this point. But, the story was that he and his family weren't fans of McDermott as the recruiting process went on. Curious if these talking heads have any actual information on Traudt to Creighton, or if they're just assuming because his girlfriend goes there.
  20. Agree. It's about finding the right players, not the best players. Juwan Gary will demand a lot of minutes next year, assuming he's healthy. I don't like the fit of Ledlum and Gary at the 3 and 4, with whoever else at the 5.
  21. SIAP, but we stayed put at #92 in the NET rankings after our close loss to quad 4 Minnesota. But when we actually beat quad 4 Minnesota, we dropped a few spots. Hilarious.
