Updated Roster on Huskers dot com

Mast, Allick, Blaise and Gary form a very intriguing frontcourt. For that matter, the rest of our guys form an intriguing backcourt, as well. -
Updated Roster on Huskers dot com
millerhusker replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Those aren’t the updated heights and weights though. Measurables will be updated. Rice will likely be listed at 6’8” and 200+. Mast will probably be in the 245-250 range and Allick 240-245. Ramel’s 204 was what he weighed in at last summer and he’s gained a good 10 pounds. Same with Jacobson. -
How does this years roster stack up to last years?

Was just a matter of time. Basketball does a good job of revealing character and Juwan Howard did not carry himself well as a player and certainly doesn't as a coach. -
Nailed it

Wherever Love ends up next year, he'll probably be the best individual player and his team will be worse off because of it.

Jett Howard is one of the laziest/worst defenders I've ever seen at the Big Ten level. Not all coaches kids are wired the same. -
Favorite Husker Basketball Player Of All Time!

Tyronn Lue for me also. Got to meet him at his camp in Omaha when he was a Laker. Such a humble and soft spoken person, yet tough as nails. He was a coach's dream at the point guard position. His cousin Cookie would be my second favorite of all time. -

Agree we should be a better three point shooting team. But don't think Sam will be getting more minutes, barring injury. He averaged >20 mpg when he entered the rotation the last 1/3 of the season. If Keisei comes back, I'd be surprised if Sam is in the rotation next year. -

Padilla is the only Husker writer in the state who has real basketball knowledge and it's been that way for quite some time. It was excruciating listening to Chris Heady attempt to talk hoops on his podcast when he was with the OWH. -

McKewon is clueless. There are a handful of different possible starting lineups and this is definitely not one of them. -

I agree, but I don't see any reason why Lawrence couldn't turn into that guy eventually. I wish whoever puts together highlight reels would make one for JL. He's capable of doing some things with the ball in his hands that'll make even Tom Izzo raise his eyebrows. -

They have the same measurables and that's where the comparison stops and the contrasting starts IMO. Completely different types of players. -

Took a quick glance at the portal activity of teams who finished ahead of us last year. It is less than impressive for most of these teams. A bunch of teams are taking a bunch of guys who people on here would be furious about if they were Nebraska additions. Maryland lost Hakim Hart to Nova (stud who I believe will be a good NBA 3 and D guy). They took a wing who averaged 4 and 2 at Indiana and a guard who averaged 6 and 1 at Loyola Marymount. Neither of these guys were starters. Indiana took a 5th year forward from Miami who averaged 3 and 1. Just played spot minutes. Michigan lost their best player who carried them the entire year. They took a 5th year forward from Seton Hall who averaged 6 and 2. Was not a starter. Ohio State took a wing from Penn st who wasn't in the rotation. And a 5th year guard from Baylor who wasn't a starter and averaged 4 and 2. Iowa just took a 4th year big from Belmont who averaged 7 and 5. Some blue bloods around the country are taking younger, unproven talent (for example, KU took a freshman guard from Texas who wasn't in the rotation and Texas took a forward who averaged 7 and 4 at UTEP). Nebraska lost 4 guys who combined to average 5.9 ppg. And gained four older, proven players who started a lot of games for winning teams. Aside from Ulis, the other three had very good production, albeit at lower level conferences. It's interesting that we decided against going the Petteway/Palmer/White route of taking talented players who couldn't crack the rotation at their former Power 5 school and went the Griesel-type route. -

We were 3 games back from 2nd place in the league. Iowa and Maryland tied for 5th and we were 3-1 against those two teams. Cheer up. -
No offense to Henry, but I'm taking Kye in that matchup every day.
-
Jay Pal out of Omaha Central has entered the portal. Had a good season for Campbell. He put up 26 and 10 in the conference championship game. 6’9”, athletic, decently skilled and old. He’ll get some looks.
-
Yeah. A lot of teams are going to find out the hard way that continuity is important. Several already have. I know there are outliers.
-
7 players in that "junior" class. I know class distribution doesn't mean much anymore, but seems like Fred is going all in these next two seasons, tourney or bust.
-
Now that Antoine Davis is out of eligibility, if Keisei averages 25 ppg he'll lead the nation in scoring. I'm all for it.
-
The only player on our roster going into his last year of eligibility next season is Keisei

This isn't necessarily a starting lineup or rotation prediction. Just wanted to kind of compare the roles/rotation of our last 8 regular season games to what it could look like next year. During that stretch, we went 6-2 with three wins over NCAA tournament teams and 2 over NIT teams. Lead guard – Sam Griesel > Ahron Ulis Sam is going down as an all-time fan favorite and for good reason. He did have his flaws at the position. If he were Iowa’s starting pg last year, his numbers wouldn’t have been as impressive. Ulis fits better with Nebraska than he did with Iowa. He might actually be the only likeable player in Iowa basketball history. Guard – Keisei Tominaga < himself next year I don’t expect him to average 20 ppg like he did the last however many games. But I do think he can average 15-17 over the course of a season. And he will definitely have the same gravity and demand the same attention he did from defenses during his hot streak. Guard – Jamarques Lawrence < himself next year Huge fan of Lawrence. I think very highly of his game. He will again benefit from having a point guard who is pass first. I don’t think he would’ve fit well with Wrightsell. Wing – CJ Wilcher << Brice Williams Post – Derrick Walker > Rienk Mast Mast is solid, though. Bench: Backup guard – Sam Hoiberg < Ramel Lloyd I think. And if Ramel is good enough to earn a starting spot, that’d be great. He's undoubtedly a better player than Sam. Sam just kind of did everything correct on both ends of the court. That's important. The good news is, if there are talented guards in the rotation who aren't doing things the right way... we still have Sam. Wing forward – Denim Dawson << Juwan Gary Same exact player archetype. Juwan is just better in every aspect. Backup 5/occasional 4 – Wilhelm Breidenbach << Josiah Allick This would really be a big deal. Post depth – Blaise Keita/Oleg Kojenets < Blaise Keita/Wilhelm Breidenbach - More guard and wing depth with Hoiberg, CJ, Rice, Jacobson
-
Best mechanics on the team IMO
-
If you viewed other teams with the same watchful eye as we do Nebraska, I don't think you'd be so down on our roster. I mean, we could potentially snag the starting point guard for one of those top half teams (and an 8 seed in the tourney) and Husker fans are disappointed about it. Do you think this roster is better, worse or about the same as it was last year? We weren't that far off last year. Won 5 or 6 games against tourney teams. And another couple wins against bubble teams. Handled Creighton in Omaha, who was a few seconds away from a final four. Beat two ACC teams. Had zero bad losses. Took a #1 seed to overtime. Went 9-11 facing one of the tougher conference schedules since joining the league. None of this was a fluke. We were every bit as good as many teams in the tournament. If we had Northwestern's or Penn St's non-con schedule, we would've been dancing like they did. Looking around the league, the conference won't be as tough next year, top to bottom. We'll also have an easier non-con schedule. Losing Griesel and Walker obviously hurts. But I see some upgrades on the roster. And I see some continuity and guys who should be better versions of themselves next year. Getting Allick would be a big upgrade from what we got out of that spot last year.

2021 SG Hunter Sallis ->Gonzaga->Wake Forest
millerhusker replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Agree with this, but it sounds like it's more some members of his immediate family who needed to be convinced that Nebraska is a good place to be. I wanted Hunter to be a Husker, but not because he grew up in Omaha. Simply because of how our roster is currently constructed. I want Tominaga and Lawrence to be on the court - off the ball - together. A lot next year. Like Griesel, Hunter would've allowed us to do that. I'm telling you, the way guys like JL and KT play strikes more fear into opposing coaches (yes, I said that) than any 7 footer does. Relentless off-ball movement, combined with absurd confidence and legit skill level. It's a nightmare to try to get defenders to stay disciplined and chase two of them around for 28+ minutes. At times last year it reminded me of watching NBA defenders trying to chase around Steph and Klay. Neither are particularly athletic, but they have that innate feel of angles, changing speeds, changing directions. And ridiculous confidence. I think having a bigger, longer guard would also give you the ability to play Williams at the "4" which would be great for spacing. Like a better version of CJ the last 1/3 of this past season. Maybe Ramel will end up being our point guard and allow all of this to happen. I'd be ok with that. But having an unselfish, athletic 6'5" lead guard who's a bulldog on defense would've been great for this team IMO. End of rant. For now
