Opening Night 2023 - Friday, Sept 29th
Huskerpapa replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
To me, the lone negative, is that he occupies a scholarship. Could we use that elsewhere. Of course that seems dependant upon the severity of punishment. Certainly if it is a lifetime ban, I would suggest he loses his eligibility and scholarship. -
True; but it is also good to know what others think of our team and our program. Nobody will see us as a threat in the conference. We can maybe win a few games solely because teams will look past us. Bottom line, as mentioned we have the opportunity to earn respect, can we do it?

Heck, the NCAA still hasn't ruled on our tight ends transfer eligibility, and now he has been arrested twice...we may hear about Aron's punishment about mid-May. -
Shoot, we missed the automatic unpinning by 2 hours. Sheesh 49r, if you hadn't posted when you did, it would have unpinned by 6:00pm this evening.

A Norm Recruiting Poll: How'd We Do?
Huskerpapa replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
#8...but we could go anywhere from 7 to 9. I still believe our not so secret weapon will be Josiah. One of his greatest attributes will be his hustle and effort. He may be the #2 fan favorite behind Keisei. -
Not trying to be cruel; but Nebraska actually has an offensive coordinator whereas Iowa has a coaches son who wishes to be an offensive coordinator. If Satterfield was fired tomorrow, he could and probably would land another offensive coordinator gig. If Frenz was fired, at best, he could secure a job as an offensive line coach...in fact he would be/and was a great offensive line coach....just not a coordinator.

Yeah, I sorta agree. I spent the offseason skeptical, at best, regarding both our talent and our chances of success this coming season. I sat down at the practice session and simply tried to evaluate what we had, talent wise and tried to compare our talent to what we see around our league. It was almost shocking to see what we assembled...and that was a positive shock, not a negative. We have a season to traverse, and a lot can, and usually does go wrong through the middle of March. That said, we seem to be a mature team. The team seems to get along. The team seems to have quality depth. The team seems to look strong. The team seems to look athletic. The team as a whole, seems to shoot well. The team seems to have a plethora of quick hoppers. The team seems to be basketball savvy. Now, we all know the history of Nebraska. What seems to be possible and what then becomes reality always sucks. So we shall see. I for one am geeked, at least for now.

Yes indeed.

I respectfully disagree on one point. Allison had a definitive limp, both before and after the session. During the introduction, she came out with a sleeve on her leg. She then sat on the bench and placed a bulky brace on her recovering knee. I do not bring this up to be a Debbie-downer or argumentative. I simply want fans to be realistic and to understand the difficulty and hard work to rehabilitate and fully recover from this sort of injury. Allison is putting in the time and work. She is back; but it will take some additional time and hard work for her to get back to her old form.

Didn't hear; but he had a sleeve over the knee and lower leg.
-
Yes indeed.

Yeah, what he said. And oh by the way, all our bigs have good hands...and are athletic...and look strong...oh my. Repeat after me...it was only one practice; but still.
-
Yes...

Okay. Watched the ladies tonight. Really hard to judge. Returners all seemed to have upgraded their games a bit. Annika more than a bit. She looked comfortable in the post. Logan plays the game at a good pace and appears to be ready to go. I liked how Natalie Potts fits as well. Darian is going to be helpful. Hard to replace Sam's role; but Darian should help. Yeah, Allison is back on the floor; but no way, no how, is she close to 100%. She has another month before first tip, so hopefully she continues to get healthy. I hate to use the word disappointed, so I won't...but...Jessica Petrie did not meet my expectation tonight. She simply looked misplaced at times. I will opine that she will find herself, and will continue to improve throughout the year.

We have strength, talent and depth throughout. I don't know if I can honestly pick five starters. An interesting conundrum. -

What do you think. 3500 to 5000 patrons...maybe. -

Blaise is out...but that three headed monster (Rienk, Josiah and Matar) looked terrific. Geeked. -

One of the many highlights for me was when Keisei missed 5 in a row...and was visibly pissed! -
Norm...so am I. Yes, it was only a pseudo practice, but we got ourselves some keepers.
-
This dude can and will play! Just saying...
-
I will be a bit of a contrarian. One of the most important things Keisei did last year was to draw the opposition out to the perimeter. If we have two or three players on the floor that can shoot and hit the three, then we should have a party driving to the hoop, or dumping it to the post for a rather high percentage basket. We really took advantage of that during the last half of this past season. So although the three point shooting will be important, our points in the paint may be more important (as will our free throw shooting).

I will be there...
