  1. Lot a talk here about Verge being gone...Covid? Discipline?
  2. Conceptual many college programs have recruiting coordinators but yet all coaches share the actual recruiting. But no, I am unaware that others do it the same as we choose. I too wonder if there are successful programs that we are attempting to emulate??
  3. Sorry. It is impossible to put a positive spin on this. People are angry. Some people are already giving up their seats. Shoot, a few years ago we had no sit Sunday; yesterday was nearly no show Thursday. Fans had high expectations. Those expectations were established when a decent coach was fired and a much higher profile and higher paid coach came in. That coach then furthered the expectations by describing the shooting prowess of players like Lat; as well as other similar bravado statements that have not come to pass. We brought in higher rated players who love to provide even more propaganda. Talk is flipping cheap. If you are good, then go out and prove it. But hey, let's pay this non-producing dude $18,000,000 to live the life of luxury while we await someone, anyone to come in and provide a miracle by winning one flipping NCAA tournament game before I die. Damn right, I am pissed ---let's all go out and clank another three or maybe dribble into oblivion.
  4. I still struggle believing how we will win a game this season. Although the following five played pretty well together Kobe Trey DW Bryce ???
  5. Here is the deal then, IF our players are as talented as our recruiting coordinator believes them to be, then talent is not the problem...right? If we take that as a fact, then let's find out why this team is so bad: Character? Coaching? Basketball IQ? Effort? Chemistry? Scheme? Accountability? Other? Quite frankly, I could care less where a player is from. But I do want them to be talented, coachable, dedicated and oh yeah, win lots and lots and lots of games.
  6. Cip, Moe, Danny and Doc all seemed to recruit Nebraska talent pretty well. We lost our share, but typically the effort was there. Tim was up against it as the Omaha coaches gravitated towards Creighton, or so it seemed. The same problem seems to exist with Fred. Creighton now has deeper roots into Omaha making it more difficult to pluck individual talent that we may want. That said, Tim was starting to break the ice. I had heard Chucky was a lean our direction before the coaching change and of course the Northstar kid was locked in here before that change.
  7. Trev is the right guy until he isn't. Moos was the right guy until he wasn't. Frost and Hoiberg are the right guy's until they are not. And on and on. Typically you only know you have the right person when you look back retrospectively. Right? The only three guys that never seemed "right" were Perlman, Eichorst and Riley.
  8. Any guesses on attendance for Thursday afternoons game. Maybe 7500???
  9. Hard to actually know exact details. But we did have an active member on our fine site that was a spouse of a Miles staff member. She PM some of us and said a lot without having to say much (she also had a host of very good takes). Hard to recruit and hard to coach when you are dead man walking.
  10. We need a minor miracle to win this, or any other game remaining on our schedule. This team is currently an abomination. We either fall completely flat or find new ways of losing winnable games. The miracle could happen, but most of us wonder how??? The entire unit needs to take a "now I get it" pill and then maybe, just maybe, we can find our way.
  11. I will go on record to say that despite the utter chaos and the abomination of this team, Fred should get another year. FRED should then decide on whether or not an assistant makeover is necessary. Frost thought it was necessary and the jury is out. Bo thought the world was against him, did not make the changes and he was gonzo. Frank made the changes and was gonzo. Sooo, we shall see. Another year like this one would be unthinkable. But as an aside, the head coach is ultimately responsible for everything. He may assign responsibilities and expectations, but if there is a failure in any aspect of the process, it is on that head coach.
  12. https://journalstar.com/entertainment/music/l-kent-wolgamott-interview-with-meat-loaf-in-2016-if-youre-not-tired-when-im/article_b9e758be-8c57-58f6-8d4c-e8ea08bcb125.html Good article in today's LJS about him today.
  13. It will be interesting to follow Kobe's playing time moving forward. Also, will any other players step up?
  14. Certainly the way we have played, the failure to even remotely touch preseason expectations and the utter failure to make any adjustments puts us right at the cusp of the worst. The only reason I cannot fully declare it as such is that there are games to play. I hold out zero hope; but we are required to play out the season...I think.
  15. Tough situation for all involved. From what I could gather, other schools made NSAA aware of this violation earlier in the season. If true, why wasn't this addressed by both Gretna and the NSAA well before now? I know similar transfer issues have occurred, and more often than not, they are addressed prior to the season even starting. This simply smells a bit rancid.
  16. I am trying to recall; when Tim locked the players out of their plush locker facilities a few years back, was he praised or belittled? He was having some similar problems, right?
  17. Yes, you will always have my permission to play on my lawn.
  18. Because I am a stupid crumogeon and I don't feel well and I a am frustrated and others vent in one way or another and I ended up vomiting here. As near as I can figure. But Matt has my permission to close this out, delete it or whatever since I got all this off my magnificent, rippled chest
  19. Both teams are in the same situation so it shouldn't matter...and I truly am not trying to stir any pot. But --- prior to tip we run out and somewhat lazily shoot some layups, dunks or jack some threes. We then go to our bench area, line up and listen as a live singer sings the National Anthem, then the color guard leaves and then we listen to the unity song and we have five minutes of videos and intros and then for whatever reason we bang that stupid ass drum and then after ten minutes or more, the players are expected to play. This seems to be flipping insane. Isn't there a better way of getting a game started. For the love of all that is holy??? And while I'm at it stop the tshirt toss. The effort of the group spreading the shirts is pathetic
  20. A thousand times over, the defensive schematics matter, but more importantly it is the jimmies and joes playing it. One person/player breaks down and the whole team pays the price. Last night on the first or second possession, we are given a great effort on the defensive end and Lat stands almost straight up and his man drives by him to his right, DW comes over to help and is whistled for the foul. There were probably 20-25 similar instances last night alone. I remember watching a Danny Nee practice once, and Depries Owens kept breaking down on defense. After it happened a second or third time Owens was on the sideline watching...while holding ten pound weights with his outstretched arms. He went back in about five minutes later and it happened again. I don't know about anyone else there but my bottom half puckered up as he was ripped by Danny and then back to the sideline for the same (but a bit longer) punishment. When he made it back in...he got it right. A somewhat brutal punishment but it got results.
  21. Good lord. Holy poop. I would have guessed this was the major problem, but to hear a team member say it...wow
  22. The play that sort of blew my mind last night (and perhaps it has been discussed) was when Kobe broke free for a layup and instead of taking it, threw a pass for a turnover. I turned to my son an uttered something incomprehensible... They then went down and scored on a layup. A four point swing. We would have been four down and instead we were eight down. Not necessarily dissing on Kobe, but man, we do that kind of stuff way too often. My humble conclusion is that our team as a whole has a poor basketball IQ.
