2022 Women's Volleyball (Schedule, Updates & News)
Huskerpapa replied to Red Don's topic in Other Huskers Sports
Agree. Must have been somewhat egregious given the timing. -
If this team has a surprise star, who's it going to be?
Huskerpapa replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
My perspective hasn't changed yet. We have a lot of proving to do yet. I can be hopeful, and I sure the heck will be supportive...but this is a question to be answered at the end of the year, not before the first tip. -
Are they affiliated with New Orleans?

HuskerFever thanks for doing this again this year. God knows I couldn't put something like this together. Again, thank you. -
Chadron St. vs. Nebraska Exhibition Game Thread
Huskerpapa replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Hmm. I'm not to say who, but someone has been saying this for awhile. He still needs strength, but he has a good skillset. -
It was an exhibition game against an undersized and underwhelming team. I am going to put a positive spin on the scrimmage rather than focus on some of the negatives that existed. I do this because last year was horrible and there were things I enjoyed seeing: * Overall effort was good * Rebounding effort and positioning was positive * Ball sharing was better. Hero Ball was not present. * Overall team athleticism is better. Plus we appear to be stronger/bigger. * We have a good mix of youngsters and experience. ---Dawson is an athlete---

Chadron St. vs. Nebraska Exhibition Game Thread

Halftime. Thank you to the student body, for showing up...not. Lot of positives so far. A few things I can rag on, but won't. Effort is there. -
Chadron St. vs. Nebraska Exhibition Game Thread
Huskerpapa replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Hmm. Chadron just started practice a week ago. Tonight they are playing an exhibition against Briarcliff in Sewer City. Eight new players on their team. -
A lot of this is also directed by the coaches. There are stubborn coaches who are going to run their system, come hell or high water. That is successful IF you recruit your type of player (see Iowa, Creighton, Purdue). Other coaches adjust their system to fit the players. We seem to fit that category. I think both our guards have this ability. We will have to see if our freshmen have that skill set. I don't know if we can operate the offense the same as last year. I am hearing stuff like we are moving the ball better, we are making the extra passes, etc. Seems like we will perhaps see less isolation type plays. Then again, who really knows? I hope is has a defense oriented, tough as a $2 steak, junk yard dog identity and reputation. We better...and again, the team and coaches are saying the right things. Will words become action?

Projected Rotation and Starting Lineup
Huskerpapa replied to NUdiehard's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Here is a thought, if this team is unselfish as a whole, and if this team is deep, and if this team is going 100% at all times and not pacing themselves, then we may go beyond an eight man rotation; perhaps we are looking at a ten man rotation. It may be something akin to group one playing 25 minutes a game and group two playing 15 minutes a game. I guess we will know more in the next few weeks. -
Projected Rotation and Starting Lineup

Sort of sounded like Dawson is in the rotation. -
What do you suppose Hoiberg's (unwritten) metric was?
Huskerpapa replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Lol...nope, there may be a magic win total, I just don't know what that number would be. -
What do you suppose Hoiberg's (unwritten) metric was?
Huskerpapa replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Hard to say given the program was as close to a shipwreck as you can get. I am guessing part of it is winning X number of games. I am guessing post-season of some sort. I am also guessing that some intangible improvement with effort. If I were king for a day it would be NCAA tournament. But perhaps that would be totally unrealistic. -
If I understand correctly, the request is for the metrics that Trev and Frost agreed to. Interestingly, they cannot locate Fred's. Apparently his was verbal only...

But doesn't Sporting KC play in the Big 12?

Toronto coach Nurse talking about Delano: Rexdale’s Dalano Banton just took over and won the job. How much he plays remains to be seen. “He’s really doing a good job of organizing the play calls and moving the pieces and things like that,” Nurse said of the second-year guard. “And then when you need him late in the clock, he’s going to work … either getting to the rim with the right and left hand or shooting that pull-up (jump shot).”

We have proven that to be true...

I am trying to picture being a top college recruit trying to pick a school that can make or break my future. Right now...is Nebraska that school? I just don't know. Is program stability necessary? Is knowing who the head coach and assistants important? What will be the offensive and defensive schemes? What will be the overall program philosophy and character? Those questions aside, Nebraska can show the top facilities in the country. Fan base is at or near the top. Players graduate, they have scholastic support. We have a fairly good community. NIL money flows like the nearby Missouri River...and not like the nearly empty Platte River. Lot's of pluses, but can they offset those negatives at this point.

Thanks Jacob...yup, that is te quote. Hard to read, hard to believe. I certainly hope that nightmare season will never reoccur.

Wow. The silence is deafening. Wednesday was our date on the dias and we can hear the crickets chirping. So does thouest believe nothing was said, are we apathetic, or were we just waiting for someone else to bring it up. I guess I will start. My one major take away was that Fred is loose. That could mean quiet confidence, it could be that he is ready for the inevitable, or something in between. Other small takeaways from Sam, DW and Coach. I still am missing my rose-colored glasses, yet I am anxious for the start of the season. My expectations remain low, so exponential improvement over last year's team will be helpful. I am trying to locate the quote, I believe it was from DW, that really drew my interest. It had to do with last years team...he basically called them out saying something akin to their belief that their talent would win games and effort wasn't necessary. Very telling, yet very obvious to many of us on this board.

Agree. He really stepped up this summer and into camp. I read that he went from a possible cut to a player firmly in the planned rotation. That is solid improvement. Although his outside shot still needs improvement, the rest of his game is solid+.

His name was making the rounds before he was fired...this simply frees up his agent to the forthcoming conversations and overtures.

Keita chose Nebraska over Baylor, Minnesota, Tennessee, Arizona State and Oklahoma State. He was one of top JUCO players in the country earning 4 stars (I think). If he becomes our break out player, it shouldn't be a surprise.
