Phil Beckner named the next assistant coach at Nebraska
ajb5856 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I don't know that he would have but it could've happened had he stayed. Beckner could turn out sour for all I know. I was given specific examples of things that went on during his short tenure here, during workouts that make me less sad that Burno was stolen from us. That's it. I don't know specifically how he would've hurt chemistry, just info that leads me to believe it was likely. -

I'd guess a couple of reasons. First, finding a guy with high level Div 1 recruting experience in July is going to be tough. If it was easy, Bobby Hurley wouldn't have sniped away Burno. Second, I would speculate that Miles wanted someone he at least knew first hand which further limits your list of candidates. I think concerns about his ability to recruit to this level are completely justified because he simply hasn't been at this level. It's perfectly fine to question the recruiting aspect of the hire since Beckner is still unproven. However, how much good does it do to land top recruits if they are brought into a system where the team chemistry and especially the coaching chemistry is off? The chemistry was already off last year and this year we are starting new and trying to push past that. I've heard some things. That's it. I obviously can't say for sure that Burno being around as coach would've turned out to be a bad thing. But I've heard enough to know to not be as down on the Burno departure/Beckner hire as some. -

Now that this is done, this is what I will say. Many were/still are very disappointed that Burno bailed and are luke warm with the Beckner hire in comparison to when Burno was brought on board. Beckner here will work out much much better from a team morale standpoint than if Burno had stayed. Beckner will mesh with the current coaches much better than Burno was fitting into the coaching group and fitting into his role. -
Getting a bit worried about recruiting

Not recruiting Trey Dickerson this year is good for about a 35% drop in Nebraska twitter traffic Definitely true -
Getting a bit worried about recruiting
ajb5856 replied to lanigan123's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
You find out about a lot of recruits and who is recruiting them because the recruiting analysts and gurus find out and they put it on Twitter. And then they write articles. If the recruiting guys don't sniff out the offers then we don't hear about them since the university and coaches can't spill names. I liked the reasoning as to why we aren't hearing so much right now being the point someone brought up about last year needing to fill way more spots compared to the 2 we currently have open. I would also like to suggest that the newness of Tim Miles and coaching staff is wearing off and the number of tweets about planes leaving and coaches going here and there to recruit has gone way down, making it harder for recruiting analysts to track down recruits of Nebraska. -

So we have 2 seniors and the one open scholarship. 3 spots to fill right now for 2016. Right now 1 scholarship is spoken for by Roby, correct? Seems like plenty of time to reel in some more talent. This is the time of year we will start hearing more about who we are zeroing in on and they can't even sign until November. Not too worried yet. -
Would be nice to know if Morrow and Bakari are going to be able to give it a go....the 10 practices are going to be crucial for the freshman as we are going to need 2-3 of them to give major minutes this year. Yes some practice updates (when they start) with the injury recovery status of these two would great.

So Creighton IS going on this overseas trip then?
-
Don't know what is means but this is the same guy who tweeted that the contract was non-guaranteed. So I guess what's the difference between non-guaranteed and partially guaranteed?

Way to go Terran!

Those aren't horrible. I like the old school look as a whole on the entire grouping of uniforms. I just wish they would've done something more with our shorts. Like how they have the Badger on the Wiscy ones or the design of the Louisville shorts. Could've done something similar to the orange basketball with the script Huskers logo we sported on the early 90s shorts.

Glynn Watson video - "Ya'll seen this right?"
ajb5856 replied to basketballjones's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
What will Miles' offense look like with someone who can actually "run the show"? I know he's just a freshman but he's an actual point guard. As was pointed out, we haven't had a true one for awhile. Do the excuses about not having the personnel and having to run only certain "set pieces" go away this year? It's got to look different with at least the guard personnel playing in their "normal" spots and not needing the "scoring guard" to handle the ball as much. -
Hasn't Miles already been on record saying that he very much wants the STATS sportVU player tracking cameras and system installed in Hendrix and PBA? The system can collects data from the ball and all players 25 times a second and has endless possibilities for examining spatial data, speed, direction....basically endless possibilities on what can be extracted from the data that is collected. It's the system that is used by the NBA.

Now that's a nice read! Sounds like Watson has just about the perfect point guard mentality. Sounds like a winner, now hopefully he looks like one too once the season starts. -
But, yes we just got totally Burno-ed
-
At least we are hiring guys who go and get hired by other real programs instead of those assistants nobody wants who go and fizzle out at lower tier programs. The line is forming...others want in.

Paschal Chukwu 2015 C Providence transfer -> Syracuse
ajb5856 replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Syracuse was also mentioned awhile back as an option. Could be off here but I believe most of his visits were/are out of courtesy/wanting to tell coaches certain things in person and/or to see the countryside. I've been told that this is a 2 horse race and that we are one of the horses. And the other is? I've been told Virginia. So we'll see how straight up my info is shortly. Hopefully. Was also told that he went on the Kansas visit to specifically tell the coaches in person that he would not be going there. We'll see. -

24 is Jacob Hammond. Notice the addition of more facial hair (it appears) and also that golf ball in the back of his left arm. I believe that golf ball is a tricep and that he has been adding muscle in the weight room. Nice. Seems to be maturing. Can anybody give me an identification of #34?

And we have way better than a small chance -
Well potential bone spurs sound a lot better than fracture that won't heal. Sounds like the MRI is planned to see where things stand with his sore ankle. Plenty of time to heal up although it would be beneficial to have him at full go for these summer workouts.

Welp. Wow. If true, I can't believe they kept the fact that he broke his foot so under wraps to begin with. So maybe it's just some lingering stress fracture type stuff? Hopefully no major structural damage. And maybe they are just confident that it will be healed soon? So maybe that's why they haven't mentioned it? Hopefully....
