#LosHuskers: Live Streaming (Game 3)
ajb5856 replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
53 points????!!!! Are we sure that car horn didn't signal the under 4 timeout of the 2nd half? -
They must have just been setting up the whole thing...there's a lot more than 2 seats in the lower bowl available when I looked. I'd say about a 1/3 to a 1/4 of the lower bowl is green colored. But to be clear the green colored portions just means there are seats available in those sections - usually just a couple in scattered locations. There are more than the 2 indicated earlier - but not a large amount. For fun I just counted the green dots in the lower bowl. There are 146 seats up for grabs. Now...how do donations factor into all that? I guess are the people in the 200-300 level going to want to pony up the money for donations to the program to get those seats in the 100 level. There are plenty of people willing to pay the $100 per seat donation to have those seats. Especially when they've donated 1000s upon 1000s just to get into a position in the seat yourself line to possibly acquire lower bowl seats.

I'd say even more recently than that. The recruits we're bringing in now are head and shoulders above guys like Vucetic, Hawkins and Fuller, and even Webster. The staff has stepped it up big-time starting with the last class, and Roby is a continuation of that same caliber of player. Obviously, we know we've been unsuccessful in landing quality big men thus far, but the overall quality of the players entering the program now is pretty remarkable. I still see 2015-2016 as a rebuilding/developmental year with very little chance at an NCAA bid at season's end, but I look at the 2016-2017 team as a group that could do a lot of damage, especially if we can solidify the front court through recruiting between now and next year. It's an exciting time to be a Husker hoops fan for sure. Yes, there will be some teeth-gnashing and hand wringing this year from those who don't get the patience part of your scenario ("but we're in year 4 and blah blah/whine whine"). I can hear it now. Prepare for it. But we need to stay the course; I agree with your take. One caveat is in how many kids transfer out of the program next spring...spring after that...etc. We do need to stop the bleeding there some. Well, I'm not sure how much bleeding you'd really say we've had.Petteway went pro; Walt was a beotch and quit; Tarin Smith saw the writing on the wall with Glynn Watson and took a step down in competition level. That was last year. Year before that, Deverell Biggs got waxed because he needed to go and Nathan Hawkins took a step down in competition level to "get closer to home." Vooch was, well, not going to make it here. Miles didn't run off Benny. He didn't run off Nick Fuller. He didn't run off Jacob Hammond. Guys have left, but sometimes guys do that. I don't get the sense that Miles has pushed people out the way Collier did, or even Doc for that matter. I agree with this, Norm. Yes, there's been attrition, but I don't really see how anyone can honestly say we'd be better off right now had Vooch stayed, or had Biggs been kept around, or if Hawkins stayed, or if Pitch would've tagged along again, or if the Tarin Smith soap opera continued...it might've put us behind in numbers and left us with one opening each season, but it also cleared the way for the freshman class we get this season. Now, if at any time one or more of this new crop of obvious talent upgrade decides to bail, then we can have this discussion again.

I believe those were Miles' wishes for how the games would go. I suppose the caliber of teams played could be sort of set up with their finishes in whatever semipro division this is. But aren't they all like 4th division semi pro or something or all from the same level? What does the team that's supposed to curb stomp us look like? Probably something like this: Yep! That's them! -

Kind of went into shot clock kill/sit on our hands mode. We were aggressive in gaining the several point lead and then just tried to sit on it. -

Anybody see the offensive FT rebounder on the lane for Albacete? Is that allowed? He was backed away from the lane line about 3 feet, dancing around, almost getting a running starting to try and get around our rebounder lined up on the bottom block position. -
That could be.But that won't help the confidence of our shooters. If you're not confident in your shot, you're not going to make it. Shooters have to be confident. And confidence or lack of it can influence a whole team, which is what I think happened last year. Agree that shooters have to be confident. I think White will be confident enough to let it fly when appropriate. As for yesterday, I don't think you can look at all passed up 3s and say yep that's a confidence issue. Maybe the shots weren't taken for other reasons. There's a fine line here. Yes, shooters have to be confident but shots have to be taken at the right time and in the right situation as well. Sometimes a shooter just knows when the time is right versus when something is a little off, like a mis-catch or timing issue. To us it might just look like an opening and a passed up opportunity. When players become overconfident, the shots fly, the misses add up, and the percentage goes down. When percentages plummet, things that took place last year start to happen. Defenders back off, shooters tighten up, and the mind game enters into the equation.

I don't think it's very important. Most teams aren't practicing or playing right now. So the early start, the extra practices, extra games, and experience of traveling the world together as a team is a huge benefit especially considering the youth of the team. As I said in an earlier post, this was the first time this team played against an actual opponent, the first time they weren't playing against their own teammates. I don't think the quality of the opponent mattered as much as just getting out on a court, working out the kinks, getting the juices flowing, and starting the gelling process.

Anybody know if the replays on the Periscope app can be viewed in landscape mode on say a phone or if they are just stuck in the up and down narrow view once the live feed is over? I missed the first half live so I was going to watch the replay. But the replays seem to be stuck and won't rotate.

Nebraska defeats Eurocolegio Casvi, 79-64.

Not a shabby start for a team playing against somebody other than themselves for the first time! -
So awesome

So they have them with Nebraska's logo even though we have Adidas?

Last year's top 8 vs. this year's
ajb5856 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Will they? Pulling this from KenPom In two out of 3 years the shots have been dominated by two guys. In 14-15 it was Shavon and TP In 12-13 it was Talley and Gallegos 2013-14 was shots dominated by TP and then you had Shavon, Gallegos, and WP as your secondary options. I'd have to dig more into shot distribution in general and how Miles' teams have distributed them. My instincts would lead me to believe that we need 1-2 consistently dominant scoring options along with 2-3 secondary options out of our roster of 10 guys on the floor every single night. We will see. When I say more spread out or more balanced I just mean more so than last year. I have no idea what that will actually look like, 2 main threats, 3 secondary options, etc. I just know that defenses won't be able to key on one guy with the ball in his hands and say okay, we only have to worry about him and nobody else is a threat. -
Last year's top 8 vs. this year's

With Petteway gone does that open up Webster to drive to the basket more and will he take advantage of it? I don't think he or Benny Parker are all of a sudden going to develop an outside shot. Speaking of Petteway being gone...that's a lot of shot attempts no longer on the floor. White is going to take a huge chuck of those but who after White and Shields? Doesn't it seem like we need Watson (or some other freshman) to be the immediate 3rd scoring option? The shots will go up. Somebody will take them. It seems like a fresh start not knowing who will take the shots or how they will be distributed. On paper, it looks as if the shots will be spread around a bit more. On paper, it seems like a potentially more offensively potent team just from the standpoint that teams won't know who's going to take the next one. As the year goes on I think we will hear what if questions like: What if Petteway could have played alongside White? What if Petteway could've played alongside Morrow? What if Petteway could've played alongside White, Shields, and Morrow? What if Petteway had a Glynn Watson? Of course, we won't know the answer to these questions. Petteway was a great player. It just feels like his career here would've been even greater had he been in White's position having a true PG who is a potential beast and couple other offensive options to spread things out. It's why I think this years top 8 takes last year's top 8 from a balance standpoint alone. This year's crew, albeit young, has a true PG, a shooter (or 2, maybe 3), and a rebounder/PF we haven't had for awhile. On paper, it seems okay. On paper. But even last year's team was poised to upstage the NCAA tourney team the year prior to that. On paper. -
I would argue that serving in Memorial Stadium and PBA might help the problem. As you mentioned, people are going overboard anyway, outside of Memorial stadium and at the many establishments in the railyard and surrounding area right outside PBA. I'm not going to argue that there wouldn't be ANY problems because there are problem people already. I tend to think people go overboard and get extra lit up because they know they can't buy a drink in Memorial/PBA. People won't drink $9 beers as fast as they would the free Busch Lights out of their buddy's cooler at the tailgate.

Why bother traveling to Italy to pounce on some brutes by a cool 72.... sheez Louise, that's brutal. Are they playing the Franciscan Monks? Wow. I couldn't tell the difference between the refs and the Italian team at some points.

Meh. That can't compare with a campus that overlooks Salt Creek. Yeah. Seriously. Step right outside the front doors of Hendricks and you get that beautiful view of Antelope Valley and the creek of salt flowing through it. I think that's why they built the practice facility on that side of Devaney.

Phil Beckner named the next assistant coach at Nebraska
ajb5856 replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If that's true, then why was the spot open for so long after Burno quit? Maybe just the timing of everything? Coaches being busy tidying up from the final July evaluation period? Maybe Miles just thought it was better to have Eaton finish it up since he was in house already and knew what was going on with their recruiting. -
For as much as everyone thinks Watson will be a stud, Ed will be right there with him. As some are saying, Watson is going to run the team as PG (if not right away then eventually) but Ed comes in right away to fill a void, a position of need, and his ability to clean things up underneath will net him an 8 and 5-type line night in and night out starting night number one.
