I know. I'm pointing out how flawed it is as a metric that is used to determine which teams get into the NCAA and their potential seedings. We are being punished because we got blown out in a lot of games during a time period while we where adjusting to losing 1 starter and then another for the season.

Tell me how KU is ranked 7th in NET when they have 12 Q1 wins. Houston is ranked #1 and they have 4 Q1, which is 1 more than Nebraska.
-
The NET uses a secret formula that only the NCAA knows. They can make the numbers do what ever they want and not I'm not going to give them any benefit of the doubt as being an ethical or honest organization. I don't for one second believe that they aren't above manipulating numbers to produce a desired outcome. We won a lot of games in '17-18 and finished 4th in the BIG regular season and that wasn't enough because of our Q1 and Q2 game, allegedly. This is on top of finishing the month of Feb regular season going 6-1. So winning games matters at the end of the day, until it doesn't. What's hurting us this year is in essence style points, otherwise known as margin of victory (rank is 222. we are 64pts in the negative) and net efficiency (rank is 161). These are a couple of the added metrics for NET that weren't a part of the old RPI. This season we have lost by 10 or more points 13 times. By the way despite what the NCAA says MOV is not capped. Coaches should be fighting for every point in every basketball game down the stretch, despite the score. As for were we stand now, our chances to make the NCAA, outside of winning the conference tournament are slim and none. We have some work to do just be eligible for the NIT. Before this season making the NIT was beyond my wildest dreams. Right now the only thing I want is for us to go 3-1 the rest of the way, which will almost assure a spot in the NIT.

I wonder if he is even going to be here next season. Regardless there is no way he is ready for this level of play during this time of the season and I doubt HCFH would throw him into the fire like that.

At 18 game mark - are we where we thought we would be?
Ron Mexico replied to 89Husker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Significantly better than I anticipated. If this was year 1 for HCFH I would have been ecstatic. I can honestly say I'm enjoying this group far more than I have any group during the prior 3yrs. This group deserves to play in the post-season. Going to require a .500 record for the remainder of the season. -

I'm in Sec 212. I've gotten to the point where I sneak in a water bottle and stop somewhere to eat after the game. Iowa game was the first time I had ever seen that concession stand closed. -

Suck it yardbirds. That is the most satisfying win I've been to at PBA since we last beat Creighton there. -

Would like to point out that Tim Miles last year at DONU we beat Creighton, and he was still fire. There's a lot of basketball left to play. -

I don't think I've experienced a home game atmosphere like that in PBA for an entire game during HCFH tenure at Nebraska. 1. With out KT we don't make it to overtime and likely lose by 10. 2. BK gave some good minutes while DW was resting on the bench. 3. What a gutsy effort by Sam. He did not look like he was feeling well. 5. Bando is on of the best, if not the best Husker on-ball defenders we've had. 6. 2 missed front ends of 1-and-1's was huge. 7. Down by double digits in the second half and we battled back. So.Very.Proud. 8. We just have to learn to expect that it is going to be someone different every game that will step up. 9. Nice piece of coaching by HCFH at the end with offense defense for KT and JG. 10. Purdue had very few open looks. Our defensive rotation off of doubling Eby in the post was a thing of beauty. 11. Did a nice job a couple of times of pulling Eby out of the middle to allow penetration to the bucket. 12. Purdue's offense is to feed Eby and have him pass to the open shooter and if they miss Eby gets that rebound and passes it back out again. I imagine we helped future Purdue opponents game plan to beat them. Edited to Add: My son won 1st place in a freshman only tournament in Lincoln on Thursday, going 3-0. He didn't give up a single point. On Friday, the tournament that was originally scheduled for today but got moved up one day he finished 2nd place in a double elimination 12-man bracket. -

Lets just keep this one in our back pocket for now. At the end of the season it would be nice to force feed some crow. -

The stars have aligned for me to make this game. My son was set to wrestle in an all day HS JV tournament at Fort Calhoun on Saturday, however just found out today that tournament was moved up one day to Friday. I'll have to take a half day of vacation to watch him wrestle, but it is well worth it to watch us play against Purdue on Saturday. -
He won't leave voluntarily.
-
Full disclosure I heard this from a very reliable source so it isn't my inside information.
-
In the end it won't be those 3 games, but rather the cumulative of the previous seasons.
-
FTR, I don't see him winning any of those 3 which is why I believe he will be let go by Christmas.
-
This is the make or break stretch for Fred. That stretch actually started with St. John's. You can throw out Ark. Pine Bluff and Queens games. Winning won't help, however losing either of those would be devastating. Beating FSU or BC won't help him either, where as losing will be another nail. It really comes down to 3 games that would prevent him from being fired before Christmas. Those games are Creighton, Indiana and Purdue. It is important to Note that there is a 7 day break between when we play Purdue and KSU. If HCFH is let go before the season ends I could see Adam Howard being promoted as interim over Nate Loenser.

Oklahoma (3-1) vs. Nebraska (3-1) Game Thread

I feel pretty good about these 2 songs. I'm just guessing the order. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall Every Grain of Sand -
Driving down to the game with my son I had a bad feeling about this game. Gad I was wrong. As others have said, I like this team. It seems as if the entire team is made up of role players. Noticed several times SG didn't bring the ball up the court, however he still ran the offense. Much better job of spacing and passing. Offense looked more organized. When we are in zone, we need to do a better job of rotating to the ball. Hopefully Walker will be back son.

A theory of momentum in sports
Ron Mexico replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Here's how this looks in the real world. My son is wrestler and baseball player. He just started HS. All through his time in youth wrestling he struggled mightily. While he did get better every year he was never able to have a winning record, or even win that many matches in the tournaments he competed. This wasn't because he isn't a good wrestler or didn't work hard enough, it was because the competition level was so fierce. During his 7th grade youth season, he chose to forgo wrestling in junior high and instead stuck with his youth wrestling club. He was much more competitive but the results just weren't there. He's been one of those kids who has improved slowly over time. Fast forward to his 8th grade season and I asked him if he wanted to just wrestle with his jr high friends and not wrestle for his club. Club wrestling is absolutely brutal here in the Midwest. All of those kids he wrestled where incredibly skilled. He could have done both if he wanted but I strongly encouraged him to just wrestle with his friends. He'd been wrestling with this club since he was 6yrs old, however I though he needed a change of scenery. I wanted to get a test of success, which I knew he would get in jr high. Much to the disappointment of his youth coaches he focused only on wrestling at his junior high. Up to this point I was always telling him how much he had improved, however it just wasn't registering. During his 8th grade year he had only 1 loss and that was to a kid who out weighted him by 25lbs and was also a club wrestler. We get to the end of the Jr. High season and he wanted to wrestle in districts with his club and see if he could qualify for state. I was surprised but very happy. His bracket was loaded. His 1st match was against the kid, a friend of his who ended up finishing 2nd in state that year. This kid had previously pinned him w/in 30 secs every time that they had wrestled against each other. He lost 9-3 and took him the distance. His next 2 matches where against kids who had previously pinned him every every time he had faced them before. He ended up beating them both by major decision. Because there where 11 kids in his bracket he had to win 1 more match to qualify for state. He lost to a kid who was in his club. His confidence going into HS was through the roof. The week after Thanksgiving he'll be competing in wrestle offs to make the JV starting squad. If he wins there he'll get a chance to wrestle against the varsity kids to see if he can earn a varsity spot. He has a great chance to be the JV squad starter as he dominates the 2 kids at his weight class at practice, and one of them is a sophomore. All he needed was to get some wins under his belt. He needed that confidence boost. On a side note his youth wrestling coaches thought it was a bad move for him to focus only on Jr. High. When they saw him for the 1st time that season at districts they where amazed at how he performed. Said he looked like a completely different wrestler. From 1st grade to 7th grade he had a grand total of 5 wins out of almost 75+ matches. 8th grade he had 3 total losses out of 25 matches. -

He's the worst coach in Nebraska BBall History...wait...what?!? I doubt anyone on this site knew that or...or everyone already knew that and you just enjoy pouring salt. HCFH is not getting another year. He's not even going to make it Christmas. TA has another very important matter that he's dealing with right now. Once that matter is resolved, he can attend to the Men's Basketball Team. " In protest I haven't spent one dime on NU basketball during Hoiberg's career, and I will continue the boycott until Alberts hires a coach who can give the fans a modicum of hope." Stunning and Brave. A true representative of the Nebraska fan base. One I have encountered many times before. When the going gets tough, these fans pout. I seriously doubt @Norm Peterson or @HB have given up their season tickets, nor have I. I continued to support this program, and will do so into the future. -

You won't have to wait 3 months. It will all be over for HCFH before Christmas. Unfortunately which ever assistant takes over won't be able to undo what's already been done.
