TL averaged just under 30min/gm his freshman year.

I'm not dialed into Nebraska HS basketball at all, so I'll trust you all on this. When I think of Nebraska kids who played at a lower level and then transferred to UNL and played really well I think of Andrew Drevo. He of course benefited greatly from redshirting and played more PF since the teams he played on had several other bigs. That 2003-2004 season was a real disappointment, as I believed they should have been much better. Lots of Nebraska kids on that team. The BIG 12 was pretty loaded with MIzzou, KU, TSips, OU, OSU, and ISU. Losing twice to both KSU and CU really hurt us.

Not directed at you specifically, but just a general rant. Recruitniks love talking about "the ones that got away." Recruiting boards have multiple threads full of what if's and re-ranking recruiting classes type of talk. What I find much more fascinating is the number of people who pay subs for the honor of seeing information that is readily available for free elsewhere.

I was talking about college and not pro. I'm a Spurs fan and thus I'm well aware of how important talent is. College is not the NBA. It is not a comparison I've ever or will make. I never once discounted the importance of recruiting. You created a strawman of things I didn't say and knocked it down with "coach 'em up". As fans of Nebraska we need to embrace a reality that we are never going to be a destination school for 5* prospects and very few 4* prospects. Bryce is an outlier as the only reason he ended up here was so he could play with his brother. We recruited Trey because we wanted Bryce. Consistently finishing anywhere in the Top50 should always be considered a success. We can't be Maryland. They were in the top 10 for 2018. I think we all know where they are currently sitting in the B1G. There are many more like them. What matters more than players is coaching and consistency. This is why I was torn on firing FH. Before we can ever think about recruiting we need to think about stability. Coaching comes before players in college. It is way more important because with coaching and constituency comes players. When you have a revolving door of coaches that our fan base wants to have fired ever 5-7yrs you get what has happened this season. We have had a couple of really nice wins but at the end of the day we will not be playing in the post season. Many in our fan base want to furnish our house with top end furniture and appliances and the house isn't even built yet. I have lots of problems with recruitniks. They can understand recruiting because there is a nice ordered list of rated players. They understand that because it is simple. Over the next couple of weeks I'll gather the raw data of recruiting rankings and where teams finished up and will present it here.

I disagree. Coaching is way more important in College than recruiting. In college basketball the dispersion of good/great players is not hugely concentrated. It is hugely important for coaches to develop mediocre/good players. I do agree that recruiting your own players is becoming more important for continuity.

Who listened to FH's post game on BTN? Posted below. A couple of comments that caught my attention. Great mentality to have going into the BIG Tournament. I'm not reading anything into this other than to note that he made this comment. File it away in your back pocket. I really like that white 3/4 zip pullover.

There would be no debate if Nebraska had 6+ wins in the conference. The debate about Bryce is related to how bad our team is. Hypotheticals in the instance are simply that, hypotheticals.

Bryce is the Freshman of the year, hands down. This is not a POY or all conference selection. This is a selection of who was the best player as a Freshman irrespective of team record. He deserves this honor.

It is a bit bittersweet for me. Single best season ever at Nebraska feels wasted. There is actually a big debate on whether BM should be voted as freshman of the year in the B1G?!? Many are torn because our team is so horrifically bad. I have a bad feeling that he is going to be robbed of this well deserved honor.

It's a massive longshot regardless. Last night was just one game. It is a pattern of nothing, signifying nothing. Lets see what happens in the next 2 games.

What happened yesterday and why
Ron Mexico replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think it goes even deeper than this. What you see in warmups is what is seen, or not seen, in practice. Yes, @Norm Peterson I did notice the difference in 2nd half warmups. Like most of who have attended games in person this has been a huge frustration. It was obvious in January that Fred changed what we were doing on offense as it was clearly not working. What didn't get improved during that time was a focus on effort and team play i.e. rebounding and making the extra pass. Watching the team execute on offense was an absolute clinic. -
Which scenario is more likely next year?

I don't think one has any impact on the other. -
uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 14; ed 28 - vs. Iowa

Natural causes. Not sure how this applies to heresy though. -
You can't talk about his scheme w/out talking about his player personnel philosophy as they are inter-twinned together. First thing to know is that FH believes in positionless basketball : https://www.denverstiffs.com/2020/7/17/21328531/nba-positionless-basketball-the-future-or-a-waystation-denver-nuggets-jokic-bol-bol https://nebraska.rivals.com/news/what-to-expect-from-the-hoiberg-era-at-nebraska I know some people get their knickers in a wad over this scheme or that scheme and which is one is the best. To me it doesn't matter. What matters is a coach committed to that system and I believe FH was committed to that scheme although that chanced sometime in January. In the end it doesn't really matter. What ultimately wins games are basics that are reinforced in practice. 1. Rebounding 2. Turnovers 3. Crisp passing 4. Team defense 5. Hustle Those are inherent in every single shceme. The more accurate question is not what is FH's scheme but does he spend time reinforcing fundamentals in practice. You play how your practice.

Why'd we lose that game? Ultimately it was the 19-5 differential in second chance points. -

I don't really consider wins and losses outside of the BIG, since they only make a difference if you are a bubble team. I wouldn't be surprised to see our early season stocked with about as an easy of a schedule as possible. The key metric is going to be wins in the BIG. -

That was the moment I left and went across the street to Longwell's. I knew it was over. -
I was curious as to some of the biggest 1 season turnarounds of all time. I picked this article because Nebraska was mentioned. Please note how incredibly difficult this is to do. I'm not trying to tamp down enthusiasm for next season but rather help people maintain perspective. Anything in the 12-15 range would be monumental. A reasonable expectation would be ~10 wins and finishing 12/13 in conference. https://www.startribune.com/biggest-turnarounds-in-division-i-college-basketball/400787511/ A good question would be what have TA and FH talked about that would allow him to have a 5th season.

Robin Washut - Derrick Walker
Ron Mexico replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
You can have all those things and still struggle to close out games. 10-12 wins can feel like more if we are competitive. -
This is disappointing. I'll still cheer them on, but will likely do so at home. The best thing that came out of this is the decreased salary and lowered buyout. I'm going to not stress over wins and losses, because there are going to be almost as many losses next season as this one, and instead focus on how they play. Are we competitive. That's it. That's all I care about.

Huskers (7-20) vs Hawkeyes (19-8) game thread
Ron Mexico replied to cipsucks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is one of the reasons why I rarely sell unused basketball tickets on the open market. I usually offer them up to friends or co-workers who are Husker fans.
