After talking to people and reading some things, I see Valpo is the Horizon favorite returning 5 Senior starters. I might change my tune about our first loss, especially after last nights game and the sluglike performance by one A. Almeida.

When do we get our first "L" ?
Handy Johnson replied to Handy Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I pose a question of some merit, certainly worthy of some thoughtful debate, and all I get are jokes about "boxing the clown". -
I'll say at Wake Forest. Maybe a home loss to that Catholic school in Omaha. If we don't finish the Non-conference schedule at 8-4 or better, gird your loins, we're in for a LONG ride.

Will it be broadcast on the Husker radio network? I live out of state, but can dial in KFAB at night. G-B-R

Just over 48 hours until the Miles Era officially starts
Handy Johnson replied to Nighthawk's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Every year I think we're going to be pretty good to REALLY good. Last year I thought Spencer would be an upgrade over Jeter (wrong) , Diaz & Almeida would be Sampson/Olajawon (nope) and we would finish in the top 5 of the BIG 10. That being said, this season will be ugly on a grand scale. I'll mainly be focused on the underclassmen to see how they develop and fit in next year, when we have a few more bullets. -
Projected Starting Five (according to Robin Washut)
Handy Johnson replied to BjoeHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Our opponents will focus all their defensive attention towards Talley and Gallegos, leaving ALOT of heavy lifting to players that I don't think are frankly up to it ( Almeida, Parker, Ubel). Parker will come along as the season progresses, but we need to get points from Rivers and Shields BIG time. -
Parker and Shields are the main reasons I'm excited about this season. This roster is SO short on bodies, even minor nagging injuries can be devastating.

Best player you ever saw at the Devaney

Beasley and Griffin BOTH lost to the Huskers. Durant won by a point at the buzzer. BTW Bob Cousy was the Coach of the KC/O Kings, how 'bout that. -
Since this is the last season in our hallowed hall, I was wondering who was the best player (s) you ever saw there IN PERSON. Not read about, heard about or saw on TV. Here's my Top 5. 1. Wayman Tisdale - Oklahoma 2. Harold Minor - USC 3. Steve Smith - Michigan St. 4. Danny Manning - Kansas 5. Eric Piatkowski - Nebraska Honorable mention: Anthony Peeler, Mitch Richmond, Byron Houston Sorry I missed: Beasley, Durant, Griffin

Thinking back to Brandon Ubel's freshman year ...
Handy Johnson replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Diaz could play on his knees and be better than Almeida. Andre' reminds me of another foreign born Husker "great", Richard Van Polgeist, and that's not a compliment. -
You're playing College basketball now son, not a pick-up game at the old Men's P.E. Push the ball when you can, otherwise, set it up and get a GOOD shot, OK?
-
The season is unique on many fronts, mainly due to the mess of a roster Miles inherited. If I had to bet money, and I don't, I have a hunch Biggs will play.
-
He might as well Redshirt, playing this year is like re-arrangeing the deck chairs on the Titanic.
-
What seemed to be a certainty at one time, now appears to be open for debate. Is Miles fearful of his inexperience at the position (Benny,Ray) or his complete dirth of talent? (ie. no one else) Was hoping someone here might have some inside info, or at least wild speculation.
-
If Ray doesn't double or TRIPLE his career avg. , you might as well board up the Sportscenter.

[TOPIC] - Miles Dominates BiG 10 Basketball Media day
Handy Johnson replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
That's cuz Tubby's players and coaches are drunk. -
I use to have a sweet poster I got from the OWH of "Pike", Jamar Johnson and Strickland holding up the Big 8 tourney trophy from '94. But, to the larger topic, the lack of Basketball gear available is sad. Winning cures all ills though, right?

Where can I score one of those "throw back" jerseys we wore last season. I'd be willing to lay down some cash for a #40!

Predicting the 2012-2013 Season. Wins and losses

We're going to sweep the Golden Gophers? Either your "ON" somethin' or your on to somethin'. -
Predicting the 2012-2013 Season. Wins and losses
Handy Johnson replied to BjoeHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
We're asking alot of unproven players to carry a HEAVY load. Ubel, Almeida, & Ray will all be asked to be primary scorers, not just chip in a few off the bench. This thing could unravel in a hurry, you'd have to put the over/under at 10 wins. I hope I'm wrong. -
Playing starters minutes & starting for Binghampton isn't starting for Nebraska. And Miles will do cartwheels if Almeida averages 10 points a game.
-
Danny Nee vs. Billy Tubbs was a guarantee 100 point game, or close to it. Of course it helps when you have 5 guys on the floor who can all shoot it.
-
Last years CSU squad went to the NCAA tournament. Other than Ubel, we don't have ANYONE who has made more than 4 career starts. Scoring, needless to say, will be a challenge. Especially when Dylan and Ray are the focus of the defense, forcing alot of "non-shooters" to chuck it up there.
-
I'm hoping to attend the UNO game on 11/18. What type of a squad will they have this year? Any homegrown talent ? Just curious
-
the Big 10 has Indiana at #1, Michigan and surprisingly Ohio St. ranked in the pre-season Top 5. We on the other hand, have few players who can shoot off the dribble and really no low post game. I'm very excited for the season, but some of our conference games will be UgLy. ( the best thing you can say about Almeida's game is "he's big").
