02/26/2013 - At Wisconsin Report Card
Handy Johnson replied to hhcdave's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
In a perfect world, next season we should have a handful of players avg. between 10 - 15 points a game. Ray then becomes a real weapon and not someone you have to lean on to win. -

Anyone still think Ray is going to lead us in scoring next year? -
Historical Game of the Week: 90-91 Colorado at Nebraska
Handy Johnson replied to hhcscott's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This was the game where I believe Colorado's Billy Law fell down and had his "groin" stepped on. We of course referred to that moving forward as "the Billy Law treatment". -
Another Miles profile and a rhetorical question
Handy Johnson replied to HuskerCager's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If he had the option of Minny or Nebraska last year, is there any doubt he would have went to Minnesota? On the surface, looking at it from the perspective of a Nebraska fan, you're right. Picking Minnesota is a no brainer, when you look at their history and population base. But it's not that simple. Our facilities really are a game changer. Plus, so much depends on fit. Maybe Miles would feel more comfortable in Lincoln rather than Minneapolis. Also, if you're looking at both jobs as a stepping stone, which gets you a bigger payday at your next stop--winning at Minnesota or turning around the quagmire that is Nebraska Basketball? I'm just really happy we got him after last season and don't have to worry about what ifs. I've lived in Mpls. for the last 20 years, and believe me it's NOT the plum job it would readily appear. Even though it's in a large metro area, and a good school, It is mainly a commuter school, with the average student age being 25. Think a BIG UNO, with the Vikings dominating the sports landscape. Miles ended up in the right spot. -
The main thing I loved about this piece, was how it spoke to who Coach Miles is as person & as a man. As others have mentioned, he IS a program changer.

Thanks for the help Cip. I'm so tech deficient that I still have a VCR & an 8-track in play at my house.

Minnesota has the look of a team tha't's "packed it in". The ghost of one Robert Devaney will help us bury them on the way out.
-
Patrick Reusse's column in the Sunday Mpls. Star Tibune is all about Coach Miles and his protege' (so to speak) Brad Bigler. Media types up here, both print and radio, FAWN over OUR coach. Tubby.....not so much.

Who will be next year's leading scorer in PPG?
Handy Johnson replied to Hooper's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
If it's Ray, were in trouble. He should be a 2nd or 3rd option and not jacking up 3s at the rate he is this year. Hopefully it's Pitchford, or one of our forwards. -
Woman to police dispatch: I'd like to report a drunk driver. Dispatcher: What's your location & are you following them? Woman: I am them. Dispatcher: You am them? Woman: I AM them. This REALLY happened in, you guessed it ,WISCONSIN.

I don't see it Handy, but if it happens, they should tear Miles' contract to shreds and write up a new one immediately that pays him a top-10 salary nationally, because he would have achieved one of the most impressive coaching feats in college basketball over the past decade in my opinion. We should've made the Tourney our last year in the XII, only to fade late. Big jumps happen all the time in basketball, it really wouldn't be all that surprising. Look at Miami. Cornfed-Inbred-GO BIG RED!
-
After the football game in Madison last year, Osborne said their fans behavior was typical of programs NOT use to winning. If there's a bigger collection of drunken boobs other than Madison I don't know where it would be. Good luck & Go "the real" Big Red!

I don't recall a game ever being postponed because of snow. I understand class schedules and all of that, but most assuredly we are collectively getting SOFT. -

JBD had an actual low post game & could score when you gave it to him on the block. AA, (not to harsh on the kid) has such limited basketball skills, I don't think it would matter if he was 190. -
So, anyone know what Creighton did ...

How is "the Duke of the Mo Valley" & it's "Magical" season going? They seem to be losing to a lot of nobodies lately. That just leaves more room at Barrio's for Happy Hour I guess. -
The "new" Herbie's are embarassing, and Lil red flat out blows. Don't run from your heritage, embrace it. Nebraska is the gateway to the Old West. A land of ranchers, and Sandhills and Chimney Rock. As Keith Jackson once said, "those boys are corn-fed, & hand spanked".
-
Kansas celebrates and plasters that damn bird all over everything. And while I am very aware of their established place in the pantheon of college basketball, why do we run from Herbie every chance we get? In a world full of Bears/Cowboys & Wildcats," Cornhuskers" is one of the most singularly unique and distinctive monikers in all of sports. Herbie epitomizes that. Is he seen as (pun intended) too "corny" or just not hip enough for the youth of today? I don't think there should be a 50 ft. tall Herbie at center court, but come on, let's give Herbie some love.

Iverson Iverson Iverson Reggie Williams and David Wingate come later when Ewing is a Senior and they are upset by Nova. Starters were Ewing, Floyd, Brown, Eric Smith - 6'5, & 6'7 Mike Hancock (from D.C.) The last two were both seniors. Watched that back in the day when we got four channels counting PBS. Big storm and our TV kept cutting out as well as the radio call. Only got to see about 1/2 the game but unfortunately, did get to see Brown's pass to Worthy. Thanks for the info. I knew I was off on the Williams guess, never would have got Smith & Hancock. This is the game where Brown throws it to Worthy on their last possesion thinking he is a teammate. -
