This is Why I Don't Like Adidas...
Concrete replied to HuskerFever's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Not really a fair comparison. Duke has been wearing that exact same uniform style for as long as I can remember. Creighton just happened to have that style this year, and they probably picked it on their own. Do you think Nebraska doesn't pick their jersey style on their own? I'm sure we did, but I don't know. It really doesn't matter to me, I'm cool with whatever company pays us more. -
The biggest thing is that he's losing some latent around him and now with the move to a bigger conference his numbers could go way down which would hurt his already mid level grade. His draft stock definitely has the potential to go down further than it could go up at this point looking at next year compared to this season. This is also a pretty weak draft class, whereas next year's appears to be loaded

If Mcdermott leaves, we should smoke them. We will still be very young and learning how to play as a team at that point in the season, but Creighton will be a significantly below average team without him next year. Probably one of their worst teams since the beginning of the Altman era. Tai Webster will probably have a field day feeling like he's playing against New Zealand teams again

Opening Days of the Choach Firing Season

Hard to say it's a terrible move by either of them until we know who they hire.. If one of them ends up with Shaka, I'd say they made a pretty good move. -

Opening Days of the Choach Firing Season
Concrete replied to Swan88's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Perhaps they fired Tubby as a pre emptive strike? With Shaka's name coming up at UCLA, they might want to throw everything they have at him before it's too late. Could be disastrous for them if that's the case. If I'm Shaka, I'm taking the UCLA job over Minnesota 100 times out of 100, regardless of the relationship I have with Minny's AD. -
I guess I should rephrase what I'm saying. I don't think there's any question that Tai's coach has been in his ear about staying in NZ and that Tai has probably considered it as recently as the last couple of weeks. Tai's coach would be stupid not to get in his ear about that (even though staying in NZ would probably destroy Tai's career, it would certainly help that coach out) and Tai would be stupid not to heavily consider every available option. However, at the end of the day I just have a hard time seeing Tai stay overseas. His parents realize the value of getting Tai more experience and exposure via college ball, and he has a NZ teammate playing at Pitt and doing well. It's pretty easy to sell Tai on coming to Lincoln as opposed to staying overseas. Even if it's for financial reasons (I have no reason to believe it is, I'm just going off that post on HuskerOnline), he's already proved himself in NZ and will always have a basketball paycheck waiting for him over there no matter how he does at Nebraska. However, if he comes to Lincoln and plays well in the Big Ten, he will be getting a much larger pay day than what any New Zealand team can offer him. Tai would definitely be laving valuable experience on the table by staying in NZ, and potentially millions of dollars.

Not really a fair comparison. Duke has been wearing that exact same uniform style for as long as I can remember. Creighton just happened to have that style this year, and they probably picked it on their own. Does anybody know if Creighton is actually sponsored by Nike, or do they just wear Nike gear? I know that Wichita State has to pay for their Jordan jerseys because they aren't actually sponsored by Jordan. Wouldn't surprise me if Creighton is in the same boat; they're just given a list of jersey templates to choose from at the beginning of the year and then have to pay Nike to put "Creighton" on them. -
I rarely check HuskerOnline, but I was browsing it a few days ago and ran into this: http://nebraska.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid=287&tid=163314276&mid=163314276&sid=928&style=2 Again, I rarely check that board so I have no idea if that guy is even a Nebraska fan or if he's just trying to stir things up. I'm not going to worry about it until there's some more solid info than a random message board post and ambiguous tweet.

Matthew Atewe -> Auburn -> Washington
Concrete replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Thomas reminds me of a more talented version of Quincy Hankins-Cole, whereas I can't really find a comparison to Sai because we haven't had an athletic and dynamic post like him in over a decade. I also think Sai's potential is much higher, and we get to develop him for 3 years -
Kentucky lands their 6th 5* of the 2013 class...
Concrete replied to FredsSlacks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I hope Kentucky's system keeps working. IMO, when programs like Kentucky have to replace 2-3 underclassmen every year, it makes it easier for a program like Nebraska to build and compete. While they're playing 3-5 true freshmen, we are playing 3-5 juniors and seniors who may not be as talented but are way more fundamentally sound/understand how to play as a team. -
Husker coaches hitting recruiting hard
Concrete replied to Hooper's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Hopefully Johnson can use his Minnesota ties to land at least one of these guys. We should all be hoping for Minny to make a small run in the tournament this year to give Tubby some more job security. I think they've pretty much reached their ceiling with him and it is better than the potential alternative (Shaka) -
Sai Tummala -> Arizona St.-> Hawaii
Concrete replied to Huskerpapa's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Craig Smith told a friend of mine a few months ago at a booster function that Pitchford came to Lincoln with no big man skills at all. He said it was almost like he received no coaching attention at Florida, and certainly no development on his post game. This has literally been a case of starting from scratch in developing him to play down low. As for Tummala, he and Pitchford have similar athleticism. Obviously, Tummala is smaller, but both guys have a level of athleticism that we didn't see in a Nebraska uniform at any point in 2012-2013. i can't remember the last time we had two athletes like Pitchford and Tummala on the same team in general. We've had a few impressive athletes the last few years (Caleb Walker, Myles Holley, Kyle Marks, Sek Henry) but they were pretty average (at best) basketball players. Pitchford and Tummala are incredibly athletic, and they also have strong basketball skills to go with it. You can throw Biggs in there too, he's small but his athleticism shouldn't be ignored. Really hope we land Tummala, that'll just be another core guy we have for 3 years to go with the redshirts, incoming freshmen, and Shavon. I think we'll take quite a few bumps next year while these guys learn to play together and adjust to the Big Ten, but we are going to be pretty fun to watch offensively when they're clicking. -

Nice to see the University promoting bball after the season is over. Hopefully they keep it up throughout the summer and fall.

There's a reason they are getting those 4 stars and why they were in it for Jabari its called religion. Also look at those 3 highly ranked players. All 3 are from Utah and all play for the SAME high school that is about 15 minutes from Provo. One of those players' father and brother (still on the team) also played at BYU. I think that feeds into his point. BYU, while not Duke, Kentucky, UNC, etc., has a huge leg up on a talented pool of players and can afford to be picky with who they recruit. Basically, if BYU's coach thinks that this guy was worth going after, then Sai must be doing something right. -
I think it's also important to note that the majority of these guys are going to be in Lincoln for 3-4 more years. We all want immediate results, but the fact is we have our core group of players set for the foreseeable future in Webster (FR), Hawkins (FR), Fuller (FR), Petteway (SO), Pitchford (SO), Shields (SO), and hopefully Atewe (FR). That's 6, maybe 7 players locked in until 2016 (hopefully) that are way more athletically/physically talented than probably 90% of our players in the past 10 years. Even if things are rough next year, it's very hard to not remain optimistic for year 3, 4, 5, etc. of Miles' tenure.

I hadn't heard that, that is great news. I never understood that rule in the first place. Regardless, I'm sure PBA will still be sold out or nearly sold out. If it was a home game it wouldn't stand a chance (I sincerely hope everyone in charge of coordinating these events never make this mistake), but I think we are really overestimating how much women (and some men, but I'm referring to women here because I think Pink mostly appeals to girls) care about Nebraska football. A lot of moms would probably rather take their daughter to this concert than sit and watch their husband or whomever get worked up and pissed off over a game. And a lot of girlfriends would probably rather do the same thing. I'm not saying there aren't die hard girl football fans out there.. I'm not ignorant, but I also know that a lot of girls are way more interested in the social aspect of gamedays than the actual game. The pink concert downtown would be a perfect chance for them to still tailgate with their friends but then go to the concert instead of the game, and then meet up with everyone else for post game drinking after the concert. As for me, now that I know it's on a gameday, I'll be the worked up guy that I referred to. The chances of me going to this concert went from 2% to 0%, regardless of what time the game is. But I'm pretty sure (and hope) they aren't trying to appeal to 24 year old guys by bringing Pink to Lincoln

I wouldn't be surprised if she sells the place out. It's interesting because it's also the day of the Michigan football game. It's a road game of course, but if that happens to be a night game and they go head to head, I'll be curious to see how well attended the concert is. I don't know how much cross over there is between those two groups of fans. isn't the concert in November? Unless the big ten changed it's rules, the latest that game will be is 2:30 due to no night games in November. As for the concert, i personally don't like it but from what I've been hearing, it's a pretty big get for Lincoln and a lot of people are surprised/optimistic that we were able to pull in an act like this. I guess she puts on an amazing show. As for selling it out, I'd say there's a 99.9% chance that it will be sold out.

Exactly. If he's taking this many shots at such a low percentage next year it will be frustrating, but it was more than fine this year.

Big 10 Tournament -- Madhouse on Madison
Concrete replied to cozrulz's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Apparently it is further to get to the United Center from hotels than Indy and Bankers Life. Instead of five minutes it is more like thirty. Bankers life is definitely closer to the hotels, but it took us like 10 minutes to get from downtown chi to the United Center yesterday via cab during rush hour. not bad at all -

Or it means more schools are going to go after him now... Fortunately he's already used 4 of his 5 official visits with the fifth to Nevada scheduled for this weekend (i think) -
