  1. Do people really enjoy watching Nebraska play with 6,000 other fans in attendance more than watching them with 12,000 other fans in attendance? That's insane. Bring on more fans, bandwagon, frontrunner, whatever.. All that means is we're finally good, or at least improving
  2. Absolutely love the confidence and attitude of petteway and pitchford
  3. I think Barnes is a more valuable asset to the program right where he is for the time being. Seems like he's catching some traction in Houston and getting some big names into his camp. I'm sure he has solid connections now, but he could have amazing connections in 5-10 years if he keeps doing what he's doing.
  4. Hard to have ill feelings toward Johnson for this. If he would've broke the commitment for any other program it would've been weak, but going back home and to your alma mater is a totally different animal. I know if I was a coach somewhere and Nebraska offered me a job, it would be nearly impossible for me to turn down.
  5. this makes it look much more appealing IMO (more realistic view)
  6. Playing a team like that would only help us, win or lose
  7. TBH, calipari is one coach that I could see being down with that. Take a young team into a totally new (literally) environment and see how they react
  8. if this guy knows, how can you blame him for not wanting to post it on a completely public message board? A- It's not a done deal as he's stated. B- considering the limited number of people that are probably privy to the info, it wouldn't be too hard to trace it back and ruin any chance this guy has of getting info in the future we'll know soon enough
  9. Very aggravating. The 'C' level consistently had more people sitting in it than the A/B levels this year
  10. Shorter, but thicker and probably a tad more athletic. I also think he has the potential to be a much better offensive player than Dieng
  11. They try to make the match ups even, so that is unlikely unless we are ranked near those teams in the pre season
  12. Leslie declared for the NBA
  13. seems like a crazy fan to me. I get that josh is from NC, but why would he go back to the place where he was not given a chance to play? I would think he would want to take a couple visits before deciding on a school. The coaching staff at NC State is completely different now than when he played there. NC State makes the most sense, IMO
  14. New Mexico was a pretty young team this year, I believe they return their top 6 scorers and only graduate 2 players. I guess they could see some attrition because of the coaching change, but I believe they hired Craig Neal to prevent this. Basically, we'd be playing a top 10-15 team on the road and it probably wouldn't be pretty with all of our new parts. Regardless of the outcome, though, it would be an exciting match up and I'd love to see it happen. Would be a big non conference grab for us
  15. True, but I don't think any of our current commits are really 'reaches' that would be worth saving the scholarship for. Obviously all 3 HS commits are more than worthy. Smith might be questionable to some but I think he's a necessary piece (especially in 2014-2015 when Miles will start to see W/L expectations from the fan base) and will only be on the books for two years. It will be interesting to see what happens with Sai, I like him quite a bit but I can also understand the sentiment that we should be saving that so we can take a bigger class next year (although I think we'll be taking 3 next year regardless barring dramatic improvement by Parker and/or Vucetic)
  16. Ideally you'd probably like even class sizes, but arbitrarily leaving scholarships open just to achieve that is.......not smart It will work itself out, in the short term Miles needs to put a product on the floor that impresses recruits and makes them want to come play for him. Leaving scholarships open for the sake of class sizes isn't gonna achieve that "Shouldn't Jucos only be used to supplement a class that had too much attrition IF the Juco is filling a need?" Yes, which is why the only 2 JUCO's we've offered this year are front court players.
  17. From all accounts, Fuller, Hawkins, and Webster were 'A' list guys for this staff. They were identified early on in the process and all 3 of their verbal commitments were immediately accepted by the coaches. Atewe was probably a "B" list guy behind Akoy and Vitto Brown. Can't really remember any other legit* targets besides Fuller, Hawkins, Webster, Atewe, Akoy, and Brown. Going 3/5 on your 'A' list and 3/6 overall is remarkable for any program, and unheard of for Nebraska. *Legit in this context is a target that visited campus Not sure where Leslee Smith and Sai fall into the mix. I think Smith is just a "get me over" player until we land a strong 4 or 5 from the HS ranks, but I think Sai could be really good.
  18. If we get both I'll forget about Atewe pretty quickly. Really don't think there would be a huge difference between Smith and Atewe as far as total production over the next two years goes considering how raw Atewe is offensively.
  19. I guess I didn't mean to say the size of Big 10 4's would be overwhelming. I meant that at his current height and weight, he wouldn't have a chance if he wasn't athletic. You can have a large guy with not as much athleticism be effective by just over powering the slimmer 4s, or you can have a smaller guy with superior athleticism that can keep up witht he smaller guys. You can't really make a living being small AND unathletic, though.
  20. The only reason I care about Sai's athleticism is because he's a pretty small 4. His offensive skillset appears to be solid from the tape we've seen, but the athleticism makes him an intriguing and viable prospect because it will allow him to have a chance at being a solid presence on offense AND defense. At his size, if he wasn't a great athlete he would have no chance at playing the 4 in the Big Ten because he would get massacred trying to play defense.
  21. We're on the same page. I'd love for Atewe to come here because a) I think he has a ton of potential, B ) I think he's a pretty great fit for our current roster where most of our scoring will be coming from the back court and c) It would give us a little more flexibility on next year's tiny recruiting class. That said, it won't be the end of the world if he goes elsewhere
  22. Yea, no offense to anyone but it's pretty short sighted to believe that these mentors have no sway on a recruit's decision. It's a part of college athletics now. I'm not going to bitch and whine because I think when Miles gets things going we will be the beneficiary of some of these decisions, but it's really not up for debate as to whether or not these "mentors" can control where their "mentees" go to college. Is that the case with Atewe? We won't know until Saturday, but it does sound like if he didn't have anybody in his ear he'd be coming to Nebraska. (How much of that to actually believe, I don't know..)
  23. This happens all too often to Nebraska, most notably in football. Unfortunately 99% of the time the prospect ends up doing what the "others involved" want.
  24. I don't think anyone is trying to justify anything. It's just interesting that this no name team that we played at the Devaney last season is now America's team. Nothing more and nothing less
  25. Not really a fair comparison. Duke has been wearing that exact same uniform style for as long as I can remember. Creighton just happened to have that style this year, and they probably picked it on their own. Does anybody know if Creighton is actually sponsored by Nike, or do they just wear Nike gear? I know that Wichita State has to pay for their Jordan jerseys because they aren't actually sponsored by Jordan. Wouldn't surprise me if Creighton is in the same boat; they're just given a list of jersey templates to choose from at the beginning of the year and then have to pay Nike to put "Creighton" on them. Creighton has a deal with Nike. I think the whole talk about the Nike/adidas battle shouldn't be focused on jerseys; it should be focused on shoes. Sneakerheads, which is a breed I certainly do not understand but consists of about every high school hooper, by an overwhelming supermajority, prefer Nike shoes. What the Nike deals do that get kids' attention is provide the kids all of the Nike shoes that they could want. Since these guys tend to collect them (honestly, I have a hard time typing that without cracking up) it can make a difference to a select few. Agreed, it's an unfortunate truth that some kids will actually pick a school because of shoes but whatever. Those kids are still few and far between, IMO (although it does seem to be getting more prevalent).
