In 2001-02 Kimani Ffriend almost single-handedly drug Nebraska into the D-1 cellar of FT shooting as we finished 317th out of about 325 or so teams, making 59.3% of them. This year's team is currently at 59.2% and I have yet to make the depressing slog into the record books to find a team that's been worse.

We are going to be shuffling guys in and out of this program every single year and often playing with a rotation of 7-9 guys which means you will have anywhere from 4-6 potentially unhappy guys every single year. I would have to think that staff will try and do anything to keep a guy like this who is a plus-plus as far as actually caring he plays for Nebraska and by all accounts is a very high character guy who also happens to have B1G athleticism. I'd be pretty surprised if he wasn't on the team next year.

You can declare for the draft, not get selected, and go back, right? Cam is having the sort of year where he certainly will put his feet in those waters. He's obviously talented and a future pro at some level but there are a lot of talented PGs out there and a decent number of them are more physically gifted and/or consistent. No doubt he's going to be a guy who works out for scouts who tell him he needs to go back to school and do X and Y better. I guess we'll see if he can respond any better than he does on the court when things aren't going his way. I very well might have no idea what I"m talking about but that's going to be where he finds himself this June after his name isn't called.

If we're looking at this being a reaction to this weekend, are we offering this guy because of striking out on Whitt or because Mack isn't going to be here next year? Zachery is sort of a post-hype sleeper from Syracuse. At one point I think he was more highly regarded than MAW. He's been through 1 year of prep school and now two years of JUCO and I think it was to get a better offer as opposed to grades. It would appear that he had a hand issue so he has a medical redshirt this year so he'd have 3 years left. The book on him was "pure PG". The guy is a quick playmaker with excellent handles. Not big enough for upper D-1 and not a good enough shooter. He sort of screams 'back up pg' which once again brings me to wonder if this is in response to this weekend.

Nebraska Postgame Notes Nebraska suffered its first loss to Penn State at Pinnacle Bank Arena, as the Huskers had been 5-0 against the Nittany Lions inside The Vault. Penn State’s win was just its second in 10 trips to Lincoln, including its first victory in nine regular-season games. Charlie Easley earned his first career start tonight, as Nebraska used its fifth different starting lineup of the season. Thorir Thorbarjarson finished with 12 points, his fifth double-figure outing in the last six games, and his 10th of the season. He went 2-of-3 from 3-point range and is now shooting 46.3 percent from long range this season. Yvan Ouedaogo scored six points and grabbed six rebounds. With his six rebounds tonight, he moved into 10th place on Nebraska’s freshman list and now has 131 rebounds on the season. Cam Mack finished with three assists and moved from ninth to a three-way tie for sixth on NU’s single-season assist list. He passed Tyronn Lue (144, 1995-96) and tied Jack Moore (145, 1979-80) and Lance Jeter (145, 2010-11). Matej Kavas saw his first action in four games and scored eight points in eight minutes, going 3-of-4 from the field including 2-of-3 from the 3-point line. Kavas’ eight points were his first points since he scored nine points at Northwestern on Jan. 11. Akol Arop scored four points in the final 45 seconds, connecting on the first two field goals of his career. Arop, who entered the game with two career points, was 0-for-2 from the field in his career before going 2-2 tonight. The Huskers committed 13 turnovers and had just 12 assists, marking Nebraska’s first game with more turnovers than assists since the Creighton game on Dec. 7, 2019. The Huskers had recorded more assists than turnovers in each of their last 12 games. Nebraska’s bench scored 19 points, the third-most bench points the Huskers have scored in Big Ten Conference play. -
I left @uneblinstu name off of the topic title so he wouldn't be associated with the stink from this game I've been doing this thing where I don't post after games so I was somewhat surprised no one bothered to make one of these. Apparently this was the 'how much can these fans take' point raised by Sipple Cheatham had a bounce back game and that very much likely was the reason he led the team in minutes with 35. No one else played over 30. Kavas and Arop made the most of their garbage time minutes. Kavas pumped in 8 points in 8 minutes while Arop chipped in 4 in 3. 8-19 on the FT line and 2-9 in conference. You might think this is rock bottom but St Louis and Northwestern are currently occupying those spots, respectively. We get a week to stew in this before Iowa

PSU (15-5)(5-4) vs. Nebraska (7-13)(2-8) Game Thread
hhcmatt replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
He's a talented passer when he does pass. Also he has the same number of assists as Thor while playing 170+ less minutes -
Not sure how much this changes when he might play against better competition but he easily appears to be our best rebounder when on the court.

Penn St 84 - Nebraska 76 -
Penn St. Info Head Coach: Pat Chambers Location: University Park, PA Conference: B1G Nickname: Nittany Lions Mascot: The Nittany Lion Conference Record: 0-4 Typical Rotation Depth: 9 Spread: Penn State by 8.5 KenPom rank: 19 KenPom home court advantage calculation: 4.0 (25th in D-I) Offensive Style: High Tempo Defensive Style: Guarding the 3 Players to watch: Lamar Stevens Stevens is a lot like James Palmer where he's a volume scorer where you just try and weather what's he's doing and try to make him beat you from outside. Stevens averages 16.7 a game but has struggled shooting 24.6%. Look for him at spots tonight to be the small ball center if Penn St really wants to cause some havoc. Players to watch: Myreon Jones Among the three guys who mainly shoot 3s for Penn St (Myles Dread, Curtis Jones), Myreon is the one knocking them down at a better than average rate, currently sitting at 39.6%. Myreon is probably the point guard when Jamari Wheeler isn't on the court but Penn St has a lot of ball handlers so it's not all that important We are Penn State players Myreon Jones and Curtis Jones....no relation Roster points PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 5 Jamari Wheeler 6-1 170 Jr 0 Myreon Jones 6-3 175 So 1 Seth Lundy 6-6 219 Fr 11 Lamar Stevens 6-8 225 Sr 21 John Harrar 6-9 240 Jr 12.0 2 5 Jamari Wheeler 6-1 170 Jr 12 Izaiah Brockington 6-4 200 Jr 2 Myles Dread 6-4 215 So 11 Lamar Stevens 6-8 225 Sr 24 Mike Watkins 6-9 257 Sr 8.1 Penn St typically has a 2 center rotation (Harrar/Watkins) with Stevens mostly at the 4 and then the other 6 guys rotating spots. Wheeler is the starting pg but he's more a defensive player and will be charged with containing Mack. Offensively he's not a big threat to score and is turnover prone Frosh Lundy has been inserted into the starting lineup the last 4 games due to his 3pt shooting ability Center John Harrar isn't at all the threat that Watkins is but numbers would indicate that Penn St performs better with him on the court. He's also become a starter for the last 4 games. Myles Dread's poor shooting from the outside has him out of the starting lineup Former Indiana and Okie St player Curtis Jones has come on in the last couple of games, scoring in double digits St Bonnie's transfer Brockington is a defensive player in the mold of Josh Reaves. His 3pt shooting didn't follow in the transfer Mike Watkins is still a force on the boards and the best rim protector on the team. The problem is how slow footed the big man is for this team who wants to run and can be exploited by mobile 5s. He also clogs the lane for guys like Stevens. The Skinny: This shouldn't be one of those Nebraska - Penn St rock fights of the past. Pat Chambers has his team playing at a similar tempo to Nebraska and Lions very much look like they're finally going to make the tournament in his ninth year. This could also be his first team to win on the road at Nebraska. Offensively Chambers is pushing the pace this year so this game has the makings of a track meet. Look for Penn St, with their starting lineup of shooting and speed surrounding Stevens to try and open up a lead off the bat. At points given their obvious height advantage look for Penn St to slow it down and work the ball inside. Defensively Penn St is one of the top teams in the conference but their inability to defend without fouling nor to secure rebounds at an elite level has really held them back. Nebraska's 5 out offense should give this team fits at times. The chess match of centers could be interesting as if you're looking for an excuse to start Cross and save Yvan's bulk for Watkins, tonight is that night. Cross vs Watkins is a battle of guys who won't be able to guard each other well. Like most every game, Nebraska is going to attempt to turn Penn St into a 3pt shooting team and hope they don't get hot. This typically works better at home than on the road. Look for enough running in this game to make Nebraska feel good about themselves offensively. Will that be enough to beat this better team? Prediction: Penn St 84 - Nebraska 76

Doesn't he seem like he could be Thor's backup at the 4 right now for 5-10 a game?
-
Definitely has been on fire. Here he was in the 2nd half of the Michigan game trying to fire off a 3pt arrow

It was Mike Schaefer who made that argument, not Sipple/Jake. TBH, theirs are the only radio basketball segments I listen to with any sort of regularity. -
I'm about one more loss from starting a #FreeKavas movement out of desperation
