  1. Nothwestern Info Head Coach: Chris Collins Location: Evansville, IL Conference: B1G Nickname: Wildcats Mascot: Willie the Wildcat Typical Rotation Depth: 7-8 Line: Northwestern by 5.5 KenPom rank: 100 Offensive Style: Passing into the paint Defensive Style: Zone/non-aggressive Key Injuries: SG Anthony Gaines - Out for season with shoulder injury Players to watch: Pat Spencer If you don't know who Pat Spencer is you'd probably be a great candidate for jury duty. Spencer is a graduate transfer from Loyola where he was one of the best lacrosse players in Div-1, winning the Tewaaraton Award last year. Instead of moving on to a professional lacrosse career, Spencer decided he wanted to play college ball and chose Northwestern. While he struggles with his outside shot, he's an excellent FT shooter and leads the team in assists. Players to watch: Boo Buie The freshman PG is aggressive scorer who currently isn't shooting well and the Huskers should take their chances on Buie beating them. Roster points PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 0 Boo Buie 6-2 180 Fr 12 Pat Spencer 6-3 205 Sr 10 Miller Kopp 6-7 210 So 31 Robbie Beran 6-9 205 Fr 15 Ryan Young 6-10 235 Fr 26.0 Yet another shorthanded team. The Purple came in with just 10 scholarship players and are down to 8. They're also young, starting 2 sophomores and 2 freshmen Miller Kopp leads the team in 3pt shooting Forward Pete Nance comes from a NBA family where his father played for 13 seasons and his brother is currently playing. Nance is a 3 and D guy except he can't hit 3s. Robbie Beran is the highest rated recruit in NU history and has established himself in the starting lineup. Young leads the team in rebounding and shoots at a high percentage in the paint when he gets the ball. 6'7" Boston College grad transfer F AJ Turner can play point and did so at BC. Has found his 3pt stroke in conference play 6'10" freshman center Jared Jones is just depth Soph G Ryan Greer is guard depth with limited offensive game The Skinny: Here we are at the last home game for Nebraska and probably the best chance for either team to break their double digit losing streaks. Northwestern is going to attempt to make Nebraska beat them from 3 and Nebraska most likely will return the favor. As much as it felt like NW torched Nebraska back in January it was a manageable 34.5%. Northwestern has some nice pieces but Nebraska should be able to scheme around them. Look for the Huskers to finally win one though like most everything this year it probably won't be smooth nor easy. Prediction: Nebraska 75 - Northwestern 70
  2. Notes and quotes from UNL Nebraska Postgame Notes Yvan Ouedraogo grabbed a team-high six rebounds – all in the second half – to set the Nebraska freshman rebounding record. He has 172 rebounds this season, surpassing the previous record of 169 set by Aleks Maric in the 2004-05 season. Ouedraogo has grabbed six or more rebounds in each of the last four contests. Dachon Burke Jr. led Nebraska with 13 points. He has scored in double figures in each of his last six Big Ten Conference games. Cam Mack, who missed Monday’s game at Illinois with an illness, scored 12 points against Ohio State, marking his first game in double figures since Feb. 8 at Iowa. Mack leads Nebraska with 21 games in double figures this season. Mack now has 172 assists and is seven away from third place on NU’s single-season chart. Ohio State’s Kaleb Wesson went 10-of-13 from the free-throw line, establishing Pinnacle Bank Arena opponent records for free throws made and attempted. Nebraska hit a season-low three 3-pointers against Ohio State, as the previous low was five on three occasions. Nebraska Head Coach Fred Hoiberg On the effort tonight “I thought the effort was there in the first half. I thought we went out there and tried to do the right thing defensively. They obviously hit their shots early- five of their first six, four of those by [Duane] Washington Jr. who had been driving the ball. We talked about closing out on him with the drive, and he was going up and shooting it without any hesitation, but I thought we were there on those closeouts. They were 5-6 (from three) to start and 1-18 the rest of the game. I thought in transition we did a solid job. On the boards, they had four offensive rebounds in the first half. I thought we did a lot of good things, even though they scored 43 points. Give Ohio State credit. They came out in great rhythm and great pace in their offense. In the first half, we give up scores in the paint, and in the second half we gave up seven in the early minutes before we called the timeout. I thought the resistance on the drives was what was disappointing which opened it up for them in the second half. I thought we played our best half at Maryland when we had a 13-point deficit there. To be able to fight back on the road against the number one team in our league, we talked about coming out with that same mentality. It just wasn’t the same. We lost the second half by five and the first half by 16. Defensively in the first half, we limited them in places we wanted to limit them. The second half was too easy for them.” On if the offensive struggles the past couple weeks is a sign of fatigue “I don’t think so. I think we had 44 shots in the paint area but a lot of those were forced. They had nine blocked shots the first time we played them, and they had nine tonight. We talked a lot about working hard on probing in the paint or making the pass to the corner or kicking it out for spacing. I thought too many times we were trying to challenge at the rim. I thought a lot of those 44 shots weren’t great shots. We’ve had times in games this year where we’ve struggled to finish but they were the shots we want. Tonight, a lot of those were forced.” On if there is any lack of motivation “I don’t think it is a lack of motivation. I think when things get tough, that’s when we see guys start to drop their heads a little bit. I know it’s human nature when you go through struggle like that especially with as long of a slide as we’ve had with guys who haven’t dealt with that that much. When things are going well, you can see the enthusiasm. We almost get a “Here we go again.” mentality when things start to get rough. We have to find a way to fight through that in these last three games and the Big Ten Tournament if we have any chance of winning. In practice, that’s where you see it. If we weren’t giving any effort in practice, I would be worried about this group, but they still come in to work. When you come out in the game, hopefully you can consistently put effort in 40 minutes. For the most part of the season, our guys have had great effort. Our guys, especially some individually, have gotten better. When things get tough, you can see it. You can see the heads drop. You can see it in the huddles. It’s just not the same energy. We have to find a way to get past that.” Nebraska Junior Guard Thorir Thorbjarnarson On the shooting struggles being a result on an off night for Nebraska or Ohio State's defense "A little bit of both I think. I don't think I got an open look until three minutes left on the clock, so they were doing a really good job guarding me, but also we got some good looks, but the ball wasn't going it. It's hard when they get five three's right off the bat of the game and have to dig yourselves out of a hole." On what he is looking to for motivation "Personally I can say the Big Ten Tournament, it doesn't matter how the season ends every team gets a shot. With three games to go, we just have to try to get some momentum going into that, and we have a perfect opportunity on Sunday. I think that's going to be a key game for us to head into the tournament in Indianapolis.” Ohio State Head Coach Chris Holtmann On his general thoughts on the game Obviously, I have a lot of respect for Fred and this team. When you look at how they’ve played and their games, they’ve been really close and touch-and-go for a lot of the second halves. Fred and them do a great job of spreading you out and making it difficult for you to guard. We were really concerned about playing here, in Lincoln, with a great fanbase. So I feel good about this win. I thought our older guys led the way. On Nebraska’s three-point shooting They can shoot it from so many different spots. They hit eight in the second half at our place. I thought Fred made some adjustments in the second half at our place that just made it really difficult for us and spread us out. We didn’t always have great attention to detail. It was obviously a concern. On how he feels going into the end of the season I feel good about it. It’s all on our older guys, it’s really a credit to them. You’re led this time of year by your older guys, your captains. They’re the ones who deserve the credit. We’ve got a really quick turnaround.
  3. For the season to end soon
  4. My guess from Cam's social media is that he's back in the starting line up tonight
  5. He's pretty curmudgeonly so no
  6. Nebraska Cornhuskers (7-20) vs #23 Ohio St Buckeyes (18-9) Date: Thursday Feb 27th, 2020 Time: 8 p.m. Arena: Pinnacle Bank Arena (15,000, 29th largest in D-I) Broadcast: ESPN2 Ohio State Info Head Coach: Chris Holtmann Location: Columbus, OH Conference: B1G Nickname: Buckeyes Mascot: Brutus Buckeye B1G: 8-8 Rotation Depth: 7 Line: Ohio St by 9.5 KenPom rank: 10 Offensive Style: Shooting 3s Defensive Style: Giving you little in the paint Players to watch: Kaleb Wesson The 6'9" 270# dominant Junior center has gotten himself into better shape which means he's playing at a high level for longer in games. The rebounding monster is also shooting 42% from 3. The Huskers will have to guard him all over on the court. K. Wesson is foul prone. Roster points 2 13 CJ Walker 6-1 195 Jr 1 Luther Muhammad 6-3 185 So 4 Duane Washington 6-3 190 So 24 Andre Wesson 6-6 220 Sr 34 Kaleb Wesson 6-9 270 Jr 9.0 Ohio St down to 7 rotation players with Kyle Young and DJ Carton out tonight. Both started against Nebraska back in January. Walker transferred from from Florida St. Will generate steals with his quickness Andre Wesson is also a great 3pt shooter and has played well in conference. Muhammad is a defense first shooting guard 6'3" guard Duane Washington is high volume scorer EJ Liddell is 6'6" and functions as backup at forward. Justin Ahrens is a 6'5" 3pt specialist on this team The Skinny: Ohio St is shorthanded but their starting lineup is still one of the best in conference with everyone capable of making 3s. The Buckeyes maybe run into foul trouble in the first half but overall they should be ok playing 7. Expect Nebraska to make a game of this but not have enough juice to pull it out, regardless of whether or not Cam Mack can play. Prediction: Ohio St. 75 - Nebraska 68 View full article

  8. Turgeon after the game 'I can't believe they made us play this *##& at 8 pm'
  9. Here is something to ballpark consistency if you define it in terms of KenPom's continuity Hoiberg Minute Continuity (at ISU) Year 1 - 30.6% 320 Year 2 - 32.8% 282 Year 3 - 50.0% 178 Year 4 - 27.7% 324 Year 5 - 60.6% 86 Here are those numbers again with "experience" aka how old are the teams Year 1 - 30.6% 320 - Ex 1.81 yrs 153 Year 2 - 32.8% 282 - Ex 1.89 yrs 100 Year 3 - 50.0% 178 - Ex 2.34 yrs 16 (5 seniors on the team) Year 4 - 27.7% 324 - Ex 1.57 yrs 231 Year 5 - 60.6% 86 - Ex 1.99 yrs 83 Seems like he had churn the first two years, got a decent number of returns year 3, graduated a lot of those guys and had to replace them for year 4, and then brought back almost everyone year 5. We seem to be on a similar sort of trajectory as it seems by year 3 we will have a team heavy with Juniors and Seniors even with inevitable roster churn.
  10. On what, HCFH roster turnover numbers at Iowa St?
  11. Not sure if Sallis is a one and done type player but Nebraska in 2021-22 should have a ton of experienced guys to distribute to and potentially an opening for a PG to make that happen.
  12. After reading more about King I think he's more Cheatham than Burke in terms of comparison to current Huskers
  13. It's a concern if one believes the best way to build a program is to have guys for 4-5 years.
  14. I'll let you know if the line moves from -9.5 points Ohio St to -6.5 Ohio St
  15. According to Google Translate, Keisei Tominaga = Left Handed Horn of Cary
  16. Carton has been out all of February and won't play tonight. He played 38 minutes and scored 13 against us last time. Young is a game-time decision after a high angle sprain vs Maryland on Sunday. He played 25 minutes and scored 10 against us last time. Both were in the starting lineup against us on Jan 14th. With all due respect to us seems like Ohio St might err on the side of caution with Young and save him for Michigan on Sunday.
  17. We didn't make his top 5 which isn't surprising He's getting some 'the next Ja Morant' buzz so it's something to see a guy committed to Georgia St end up with higher end offers.
  18. To me with us bringing in Walker, Mayan, Stevenson and Banton next year we are adding the length we need in 2020. I'm probably underrating Sanogo because most of the clips I've watched seems under the rim. He is current ranked as the 9th best center on Rivals for 2021. We are also in on Frank Anselem and Wilhelm Breidenbach for that year and then transfer SZN starts in about a month. At the end of the day I think we're limited for spots we can or will fill with guys who don't shoot from outside and there are no end to dudes out there. We'll see how it works out.
  19. I suspect that is how we are with most everyone. We have certain types and we're not going to sit on our hands and come up empty waiting for a decision. No surprise from that interview that DW knows who he is and what he wants to accomplish. Personality-wise he's he polar opposite of Walt Pitchford.
