  1. Have to wonder how long Gary is out Was sort of surprised to see Blaise in the game with the pre-game report being he had an injury setback during practices; looked awful during his 4 minutes. Dain Danjia was eating Derrick's lunch. I don't think Walker scored on him. Breidenbach got hot there in the 2nd half for a stretch. He also committed 3 fouls in 4 minutes in the first half. Griesel with 4 turnovers and 4-9 from the FT line. Bando's shooting is broken. He has officially entered the Ouedraogo zone. Wilcher and Keisei are 3pt shooters who constantly pass up 3pt shots. I feel like M from James Bond yelling into a phone TO TAKE THE BLOODY SHOT seven times a game. If those guys aren't shooting 3s, play more Lawrence. He's a capable shooter. Hard to play Denim because he's a guy that doesn't score on a team that doesn't score. We tend to bounce back but playing a good to great game at Purdue doesn't at all mean a win
  2. The amazing Sladek not falling off the chairs was about the only thing that went right for us tonight
  3. Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-7) vs Illinois Fighting Illini (10-5) Date: January 10th, 2023 Time: 8:00 pm Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN Illinois Info Head Coach: Brad Underwood Location: Champaign, IL Conference: B1G Nickname: Fightin Illini Mascot: Chief Illiniwek They got rid of Chief Illiniwek in 2007 Line: Illinois by 3.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 8+ KenPom rank: 35 A couple of Famous Alumni: Nick Anderson, Steven Bardo Other: 5 star PG Skyy Clark left the team last week. Was avg 7.0ppg in 24.4 min KenPom Analysis: With Clark leaving Illinois made some adjustments on offense to try and eliminate turnovers. The tricky part with the Illini offense is that when they miss 3pt shots they've been very good at grabbing offensive rebounds Player to watch: F Coleman Hawkins It's not surprising that the mobile post player leads the team in rebounds; it's somewhat surprising that he leads the team in assists. While he can hurt you inside, it's his streaky 3pt shooting you worry about. Hawkins is shooting 33.9% for the year after hitting 6-9 vs Wisconsin Player to watch: F Terrence Shannon The Texas Tech transfer is a 3 level scorer, leading the Illini in scoring. Shannon draws all sorts of contact going to the rim and is likely to be the catalyst for Illinois trying to suck in the defense to find 3pt shooters Player to watch: C Dain Dainja Elite shot blocker and a bucket. Likely he's an auto-double when he touches the ball. Foul prone, will be a game of cat-and-mouse between Walker and Dainja about who sits first due to foul problems. Bad FT shooter KenPom most used lineup PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 0 Terrence Shannon 6-6 225 Sr 1 Sencire Harris 6-4 160 Fr 24 Matthew Mayer 6-9 225 Sr 33 Coleman Hawkins 6-10 225 Jr 42 Dain Dainja 6-9 270 So 10.8 2 3 Jayden Epps 6-2 190 Fr 15 RJ Melendez 6-7 205 So 0 Terrence Shannon 6-6 225 Sr 24 Matthew Mayer 6-9 225 Sr 33 Coleman Hawkins 6-10 225 Jr 7.3 Others to watch Matthew Mayer transferred in from Baylor and is capable of playing anywhere from SF to C Fresham Guard Harris is a nice defender UNL Game Notes Probable starters for Nebraska 5 Sam Griesel G 6-7 25 Emmanuel Bandoumel G 6-4 0 C.J. Wilcher G 6-5 4 Juwan Gary F 6-6 13 Derrick Walker F 6-9 Bench 15 Blaise Keita C 6-11 30 Keisei Tominaga G 6-2 32 Wilhelm Breidenbach F 6-10 10 Jamarques Lawrence - G 6-3 12 Denim Dawson - F 6-6 33 Oleg Kojenets F 7-0 12 Sam Hoiberg G 6-0 31 Cale Jacobsen G 6-4 35 Henry Burt F 6-6 24 Jeffrey Grace III G 6-3 Injured 3 Quaran McPherson G 6-3 - Out for the Year The Skinny: Illinois is a talent team filled with a bunch of new players and freshman and thus is the type of team that has impressive wins over Texas and UCLA but has yet to record a win in a true away game. Look for the Illini to lean on their upperclassmen tonight. Brad Underwood knows Nebraska takes away the paint and will be content to shop around for 3pt shots most of the night. While Illinois will find success there, 2nd chance points likely determines the success of the Illini tonight. Nebraska will need to crash the boards all night vs this lengthy team. Illinois tends to run people off the 3pt line which is just fine with what Nebraska wants to do. The team with composure and focus likely wins this one. Leaning towards Illinois road woes continuing. Prediction: Nebraska 70 - Illinois 67 View full article

  5. One thing to note is that KenPom does carry some weight from the previous year in its ratings until approximately January 23rd. Given how poorly Nebraska's season went last year relative to this year, it's probably dragging it a tad. https://kenpom.com/blog/what-happens-to-preseason-ratings-when-its-not-preseason-anymore/ https://kenpom.com/blog/preseason-ratings-why-weight/ Otherwise, this entire system is an algorithm; simplistically it's a model that takes an offensive number minus a defensive number and ranks 363 teams. Nebraska is rated where it is specifically because our offensive efficiency numbers lack enough to pull us up higher. Wins and loses truly don't matter...we'd probably rank exactly the same had we lost to Minnesota by 1.
  6. Rutgers Need to offer a new set of Jimmys and Ndongos

  10. That's above average for a Power 5 school. I suspect that only Michigan St might have a tougher record in our conference.
  11. Our non-con SOS wasn't "really bad". It currently stands at 96th.
  12. Wins, loses, and conference rankings don't mean anything in these calculations
  13. Nebraska Postgame Notes. Nebraska snapped a six-game losing streak in overtime games dating back to the 2019-20 season. The win marked Nebraska's first OT road win since a 87-82 win at Colorado on Feb. 17, 2001 the win was NU's third straight in the series against Minnesota, matching Nebraska's longest win streak in the series. Nebraska has now won four of its last six Big Ten road games dating back to last season. The win was Nebraska's first in Williams Arena since 2018. Prior to today, the home team had won 15 of the last 16 meetings in the series. Derrick Walker tied a career high with 22 points, matching his total against Creighton on Dec 4. It was his third career 20-point game, all coming in 2022-23 Walker also finished with a career high seven assists, topping his previous best of six set on two other occasions. Juwan Gary finished with a season high 18 points (previous high was 17 vs. UAPB). It was one point shy of his career high set twice last season when he played at Alabama. Nebraska shot 50.8 percent from the field, the sixth time Nebraska shot at least 50 percent this season. Nebraska's 81 points is its highest total since scoring 88 against Boston College on Nov. 30 Nebraska went 16-21 from the foul line, the sixth time in the last seven games that Nebraska shot 70 percent or better from the foul line.

  15. The entire downtown of Lincoln has transformed over the last decade because of this arena.
  16. Weird, I though you had as well but I can't find a deleted thread. I think that people commented on KenPom finishing last.
  17. Believe this is the first time in the Hoiberg era we are favored in the road. I think the last time we were was Feb 2, 2019 at Illinois
