  1. Nebraska Cornhuskers (10-10) vs Northwestern Wildcats (13-5) Date: January 25th, 2023 Time: 6:00 pm Arena: Pinnacle Bank Arena Broadcast: FS2 Northwestern Info Head Coach: Chris Collins Location: Evansville, IL Conference: B1G Nickname: Wildcats Mascot: Willie the Wildcat Point Spread: NW by 2.5 Typical Rotation Depth: 7+ KenPom rank: 51 A couple of Famous Alumni: Shon Morris, Otto Graham Other: Game was originally scheudled for Tuesday, Jan 24th but was moved back a day as Northwestern's game vs Wisconsin was rescheduled to Monday due to Covid/injuries restricting the number of available scholarship players Fred Hoiberg is 0-6 vs Northwestern as head coach of Nebraska It's coaches vs cancer week so expect both coaches to be wearing suits and sneakers KenPom Analysis: Northwestern has great defensive numbers until you drill into what they've been doing in conference as they've been torched from 3 and have been average from 2. Regardless this is a poor shooting team that has propped up their offense via shot volume (not turning the ball over, offensive rebounds) and FT attempts Player to watch: G Boo Buie and Chase Audige Buie and Audige average 15ppg which is over 40% of NW's scoring. Buie is slumping horribly from 3 but is better and drawing contact. Audige is well regarded defender in the conference. KenPom most used lineup PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 0 Boo Buie 6-2 180 Sr 3 Ty Berry 6-3 185 Jr 1 Chase Audige 6-4 200 Sr 31 Robbie Beran 6-9 215 Sr 34 Matthew Nicholson 7-0 255 Jr 23.9 Others to watch Ty Berry isn't a great scorer but he's a remarkable rebounder for his size Robbie Beran is an experienced stretch 4 with rim protection ability; Will slot in as the small ball 5 Nicholson has been a pleasant surprise for the Wildcats who lost Ryan Young to Duke and Pete Nance to North Carolina. Rebounds, rim protects, and is a semi-competent secondary scorer 6'6" Brooks Barnhizer is a glue guy type who brings rebounding and decent shooting ability 6'3" guard Julian Roper is NW's main gaurd depth and he might be the best 3pt threat on the team. He left the Wisconsin game with an ankle injury so he might be unavailble for this game 6'9" 235# UTEP transfer Tydus Verhoeven is depth at the 5 UNL Game Notes Probable starters for Nebraska 5 Sam Griesel G 6-7 30 Keisei Tominaga G 6-2 0 C.J. On the flip side, Northwestern didn't start with that many dudes to begin with so both teams find themselves in Lincoln on about 7 man rotations. Northwestern's ability to hang onto the ball and get to the FT line explains how this team who somehow shoots worse than Nebraska finds themselves on the NCAA tourney bubble. Nebraska has an ability to guard without fouling and it's doubly necessary as they risk running out of scholarship players. In conference teams have poured it on from the 3pt line against the Wildcats....at home these Huskers need to embrace becoming one of those teams. Think this could be a first team to 60 points sort of game but it's one Nebraska is capable of winning at home. Prediction: Nebraska 65 - Northwestern 62 View full article

  3. 11 am on a Saturday in the 80s with Ewing starting at center
  4. Playing at the RAC is tough. Going to be a struggle for us to score 40
  5. Penn St - Jump
  6. Ohio St - Jump
  7. Maybe in a year or two. The smart play at least for next season is Nebraska.
  8. If you're a guy who redshirted to maximize their college career why would you transfer from a Power 5 school where you seem like a lock to play major minutes?
  9. Back on topic, the real funny/inspiring thing about Northwestern is that they are a worse shooting team than us and are a bubble team.
  10. Hoiberg: I think we could use you, would you like to start the rest of the season? Lloyd: No Hoiberg, tear running down eye: I also think you should still redshirt
  11. The feeling of year 1 that people get is in part to this being the first year there is any sort of positive culture built and the first season that Fred has a standard coaching staff. It seems like this could have been a bubble team with Keyonte Johnson not simply because he's a great player but because there is a core here where it would work. To me it seems like getting that type of player out of the transfer portal seems possible. At the end of the day do we have an identity of sort, is it a style where we can win in this conference, and can we add enough talent to fuel it? If you can't see this path then Fred isn't our guy. If you can see it, then maybe he gets another roll of the dice.
  12. Hasn't played yet, would assume the plan is to redshirt as there has been ample garbage time minutes for him to play
  13. Just in case anyone missed it, Northwestern had their game vs Wisconsin rescheduled to Monday which means we've been rescheduled to Wednesday at 6 pm
  14. Do you think we make the NIT if he burns his redshirt 2/3rds of the way into the season?
  15. Kobe Webster ran out of eligibility
  16. Your volume citation of Verge is misleading because Chucky plays more minutes per game than Verge did. His shot%, the % of his teams shots he takes while on the floor, is a quite reasonable 24.6%. That number in conference is 22.7%. (for reference, Verge was 28.9%). In short, he's not the ball hog you're making him out to be. Certainly doesn't matter though as I highly doubt he's leaving Wisconsin.
  17. Keisei is the only guy besides Walker in conference who can consistently make the ball go into the hoop. I shudder to think of what the last place offense in the conference would look like without him
  18. Post game notes from UNL *-Penn State was Nebraska’s 13th game against a Quad 1 or Quad 2 team this season.*-Derrick Walker finished with a team-high 20 points, his fourth 20-point game of the season. Walker also paced NU with six assists, one shy of his career best*-Sam Griesel recorded a career-high five steals, the most by a Husker since Wilhelm Breidenbach had five against South Dakota last season.*-C.J. Wilcher finished with 11 points, his first double-figure effort since Dec. 29*-Keisei Tominaga had 13 points, his third straight game in double figures and 11th double-figure day of the year.*-The loss snaps Nebraska’s two-game win streak in State College*-Denim Dawson finished with a team-high nine rebounds and has had 17 in his two starts this week.*-Emmanuel Bandoumel played just 6:35 before leaving with a knee injury
  19. We're out Gary, Q, Ramel, and maybe Bando. If Keita can't go by my count that makes Oleg our 8th man.
  20. Battle of Andrew Funk vs our 3pt shooting Funk in the 2nd half
  21. I'd assume he's going to be out much longer
  22. 4 total fouls by Nebraska in the first half, 0 by WB
