i'd feel better about him leaving if he had scored more than 11 ppg as a junior. just feels like he could really improve on that if he came back his senior year.
but if a team is guaranteeing him a contract then might as well go pro now.
has roby done testing yet? his measurements were solid, but nothing groundbreaking. i would guess he gets picked around 40.
khyri thomas got picked 38 and got a 3 year guaranteed deal, so i'm guessing roby will get something similar.
i don't think anybody believes he's coming back, but i will be shocked if he cracks the 1st round. in the 1st round you either want a guy that can play right away or a 19 year old with a ton of upside. i don't think roby fits either of those. he's almost 22 and isn't ready to play in an nba rotation IMO.
basically the same measurements as cam reddish who is a SG/SF. i don't see roby being able to guard bigs with those numbers. there's little proof roby can play SF at a high level. i would guess he is a 2nd rounder.
may 29th is not completely irrelevant.
entering the draft and getting picked 60 would not be ideal. you probably aren't making a roster and you can't return to college.
regardless what hoiberg told them, these guys could have stayed and put in the work to prove fred wrong. (see thorir)
it was ultimately the players decision to leave.
and fred actually did them a favor by giving them his harsh but honest opinion on if they would fit in his system.
the highest i've seen him listed on mock drafts is 28. unless a team guarantees to take him in the 1st round, i think coming back to nebraska will be a very attractive option.
if we get mack, the backcourt has potential to be as good as last year.
pg- mack, harris, thor
sg-green, burke
sf- cheatham, davis
front court needs some work though. brady, akol, maybe roby?
based on his quotes today, it sounds like he is leaning towards leaving right now.
said he would be okay with going in the 2nd round if it's the right fit.
though that doesn't really make sense because you can't pick which team you want to go to.
i think the only way he goes pro is if a team 26-30 tells him they are going to draft him. there's no way he goes in the top 25.
and if he gets drafted in the 2nd, he'll be stuck in the g league.
i would guess he comes back. he has a lot of room to improve on the numbers he put up this year.
would be nice if we could be on the right side of a kenya hunter situation where a new assistant could bring in a player like xavier johnson from day 1.
