  1. I think if Mickey gets this group to a bowl game he absolutely deserves to be hired, especially after that metric was released. Crazier things have happened. There could be a huge upside in terms of an assistant pool as well. I'm very curious to see how Trev handles Fred. I enjoyed watching the scrimmage. Fred could very well establish a culture Trev likes this season and Trev would have an equally difficult decision to make. I think the guy likes to develop leaders and work with what he has. I would think something like .500 would be a reasonable metric for Fred at this point, though, which may not be attainable.
  2. Only watched highlights.. Lineup of Griesel, Dawson, Wilcher or Bando (can’t remember), Gary, and Keita jumped off the screen to me. The rest was kind of expected, but that group looked really fluid, long, and athletic enough for D1. Keita definitely has some old man to his mobility game, but looks like he has sound fundamentals. He was very comfortable in the high post and has great feel for handoffs/pick and roll. Looks extremely coachable. Am I way off base thinking that was our best lineup?
  3. I got Keisei. Strick said he’s improved in every area. Strick also said he likes this team based on a scrimmage too. That’s a good sign coming from the best perimeter defender ever at Nebraska.
  4. I don’t think he’s quite that quick but he is a pretty special athlete and very versatile defensively. Outside of Lloyd, he might be our best shot here. I just haven’t seen the other newbies enough. I don’t think Keisei can stay in front of PGs but it would be nice to let him try it out.
  5. The games I watched he didn’t guard opposing 1 or 2 guards and was usually guarding the 4. It’s not a knock on him. I like him a lot. There’s no way he can stay with small quick guards. He’s a special player because he can guard the 3-4 just fine and then create all sorts of matchup problems on the other end as a PG. But you have to pair him with someone who can guard the point or that mismatch he presents is a wash. That way the opposition has to either put a small guard he can bully or a forward he can blow by or stretch the court. Bando can help for sure at guard opposing PGs, but he can’t do it all game. I think it’ll be up to Lloyd to step in if possible.
  6. I’ve got this starting 5 as well. Griesel and Bando can create shots, and Wilcher is a good kick out option who will probably have a little more wiggle to his game with decreased weight. Gary gets ugly hustle points (and he is a dog on defense) which is something we’ve needed on our roster for a long time, and Walker is just a very good all around player. This starting 5 would kill last year’s team. I have no clue what the bench will be and I’m not convinced WB can play the 4 due to his lack of quickness. I’d rather have him be a stretch 5 but Keita is a true 5, so we probably have to stick w WB at the 4. I think Lloyd will get significant minutes as the moment won’t be too big for him. He’s gone against better players already than he’ll often see in college and more than held his own. What I’m hoping for him is that he has the athleticism/length to guard opposing point guards. Last season we only had Trey who could do that. Sam is too slow. Bando can, I believe. No chance with Wilcher. Keisei can’t. So it’s gotta be a new guy. What I do know is there should be very few teams that outrebound us this season or the coach has to go. He has the bodies. We’re going to struggle guarding the perimeter but our help defense should be fantastic with our length, strength, and hopefully attitude. I’m cautiously optimistic that we’ll see some bully ball this year. It would be nice to have an identity.
  7. Actually I think the guy is right. Doesn't seem to be a troll and his reasoning makes perfect sense.
  8. I don't think Dan Patrick would say it if it didn't have legs. Like him or not, that potential hire makes all kinds of sense for both parties, and Urb loves Nebraska football. He's a TO disciple in many ways schematically. Trev will have $7.5million more reasons to pull the trigger on a new coach after Oct. 1. That would give someone like Meyer an eternity to get rolling and wreak havoc on the recruiting trail. Almost every other potential candidate worth their salt won't be available until the end of the season.
  9. Spot on with TO. He made outstanding hires. I don't blame Moos for his hires though. Didn't most humans think Frost and Hoiberg were home runs? I sure did. His ability to do anything other than hire people was what made his time here unforgivable. But TO was also consulted in the Frost hire. I like Trev a lot. I think he's handled both FB/BB situations with transparency and intelligence. I like that he's not quick to deem someone incompetent or be trigger happy with firings. It's smart and it's also sending a message to future potential candidates. We have a way better chance of landing a high quality coach because the bar is low, we have the money, and Trev clearly believes his job is to do what he can to help coaches be successful. That said, Frost just made his future decision pretty easy with the single dumbest play call in Husker football history. This will be a very interesting year for basketball, but I think that formula is much more complicated. Football's ship can be righted with a coach who lets his players win with fundamentals and talent. Frost has done enough to get the talent and effort where it should be to be competitive. That's not easy. He's just not a good, detailed football coach. Hoiberg is kind of like that with basketball. They both have very creative concepts and spend way too much time trying to install them before being 1 million percent sure the fundamentals of the sport are covered.
  10. Looks like a good all around player with sneaky athleticism. Probably big enough to play the 4 and stretch the court.
  11. I think we’ll see effort this season. W/L, who knows? But I think we’ll at least be pesky.
  12. I love that potential starting five. Great news on Lloyd.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if Derrick is a competent 3pt shooter. He has good hands and very good touch around the basket along with 73% from the FT line last season. That usually translates to respectable 3pt shooting. If he can, it completely changes the ceiling of the team, imo. He and Keita playing together on the court needs to happen.
  14. It's just as much about valuing his coaching approach as the recruiting component, but I think Armon did us a solid by helping us nab some decent players before he left.
  15. Not to me. Conference stability doesn’t really matter in basketball. See Gonzaga. Oregon basketball could easily join the WAC if they had to in basketball only and get a 1-3 seed every season. I’d be shocked if Oregon doesn’t end up in the B1G regardless. But that’s all speculation. Doc and Armon tried earnestly to fit with Fred, but I think their personal philosophies and approach to player motivation are quite a bit different than his. Hopefully all three can be successful and find players/programs who match their approach.
  16. I listed the ways it is a step up. Hoiberg will struggle to have a job here after this season. What went on with MA last season was pure insanity. Salary wise I presume it will be a lateral move, but it will give him a way more stable platform with good teams, players, a proven system, and notoriety to become a midmajor head coach down the road. Again, that’s just a prediction but he and his brother are personable, knowledgeable coaches.
  17. Not a lateral move by any stretch. Eugene will have way more stability, more NIL money, and a weaker conference. Altman will value Armon. His next step will be as a head coach somewhere in a couple of years if I’m making a prediction. It was just never a fit with Fred.
  18. Agree with the detailed responses, but I'll give a general one: we need to do something better or have some sort of advantage with our roster over almost every opponent we face. It's not going to be shooting or athleticism, and we don't have a superstar... To me, that means we put the five best overall players on the floor and go with a heavy lineup. I'd like to be a better rebounding team and more physical than anyone we play, and huge. I'd start Keita and Walker together to go along with Sam and whatever wings earn time (Lloyd, Wilcher, Bandoumel). I feel like Gary and WB could be great guys for energy and log a lot of bench minutes as the reserve front court. This lineup would be: 6'6" 220 6'5" 220 6'6" 190 6'9" 240 6'11" 240 Average height: 6'7.5! Average weight: 222lbs! Compare to last year's starting lineup: 6'2" 165 6'4" 196 6'7" 180 6'9" 220 6'9" 240 Average height: 6'6" Average weight: 200lbs If you want toughness, rebounding, and defensive help, you add length and weight with coachable kids. That kind of weight difference is enormous when it comes to outmatching smaller non-con teams and holding up in the brutal B1G. At least bully the teams you play and make every game ugly as hell. I'm so sick of finesse basketball and tiny players. We can't roll out a team that weighs, on average, what Austin Rivers weighs.
  19. 1. Griesel--he'll match Verge's production in his own way. 2. Lloyd--yall know I'm high on him from day one. I believe he will have a greater impact on W/L than Bryce did as a TFrosh. He won't score as much but he's strong, he'll guard well, and he'll make correct plays on offense. 3. Keita--he isn't a flashy player, but I kind of like that, honestly. Flashy JUCO guys don't typically matter in D1. Getting by on athleticism doesn't typically translate because everyone has athleticism. Keita has good feet, nice touch, smart defense, good hands, and rebounding instincts. I think his old man game will hold up and he'll be like an 8 and 8 guy. 4. Gary--another guy who can flat out guard. He'll bring glue, energy, rebounding, slashing. Effort is contagious. 5. Bandoumel--proven starter at a better program, solid defender, very good shooter. Lawrence--can really shoot but will have a ways to go in terms of strength. Dawson--good body for defense/slashing. Good reputation for playing hard. Don't know much about him. Seems kind of like the kid who transferred with similar measurements. McPherson--total wildcard to me. Looks like he has all the intangibles a coach could dream up. I just don't know how good he actually is. Kojenets--I still like that he's steadily working. I'm guessing he needs one more year before being a decent contributor.
  20. It's going to be very interesting if they decide to trade for Westbrook to clear room and let Rozier and Hayward go. Then they can keep Ball and Bridges down the road. I could see Bryce playing well with those dudes. He should do nothing but shoot threes, gain strength, and practice defense.
  21. Well this just furthers the mystery then. Palmer likely has a higher release. Maybe it's just an age thing as we had Palmer as a 5th year senior. One thing about Bryce though: elite free throw shooter. That will help. He manufactured a lot of points at the line.
  22. Good questions. I think with Bryce a lot is going to depend on how much weight he can put on and whether he can heighten the release on his jumper. I don't think his numbers would've changed much from year to year in college, but I think his defensive physical readiness for the league would've gotten better. You can't really quantify "staying in front of your man" easily but scouts watch that and I firmly believe his defense is what made him a second rounder. Offensively, I just don't know if he can get his shot off in the league releasing it from his chest. I also thought Palmer would eventually make a roster as he was great on both ends (though only 6'5") so what do I know. 6'7" with Bryce's skills is a notable difference. I thought he met expectations pretty well as a freshman so I'm guessing he'll figure it out.
  23. I've thoroughly enjoyed the finals so far. Boston stealing game 1 was enormous for their chances. I thought Dubs in 6 but I'm thinking this thing goes to 7 now. It's been a fun chess match between the best offensive mind and, in my opinion, the best defensive mind in the league. Certainly basketball has changed, but the execution of offense in terms of passing around the perimeter is done with pretty incredible velocity. I grew up in the 90s and loved it, but I love this just as much. Boston is very 90s. GSW (namely, Steph) completely changed the game. I look forward to the 4pt line. It's probably gotta be time soon.
  24. I’ll be interested in seeing what a summer of S&C might do for Keisei’s lateral quickness. He’s a 6’1” dunker. He still might have just enough to be able to stay in front on the defensive end after adjusting to D1 speed for a year. If so, he can certainly break out compared to last season. I think Wilhelm will play the 5 and rival how good Keita plays. I hope we don’t put him at the 4.
