Is this the most unimpressive NBA draft ever?
bobcat402 replied to jimmykc's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
i think certain teams bring the whold product down, but the NBA Image is riding sky high, compared with the recent multiple murder completed by players in the NFL and what it seems like numerous scandals regarding law violations they have, and Baseball with is doping issues, and whose still on perfromance enhancers and what not, Hockey is trying but i feel like every time they get close they mess it back up again, the only real problems the NBA must deal with are Superteams, players colluding, and how the flow of the game is played. -

i get why they wanna save money, but for me it seems way to cheap, id rather see these players who you feel arent quite there yet in the d-league, but i do feel this explosion in draft and stash has gottenw way out of hand in these last three drafts. -

Bennett at #1 suprised me, than it just got weird from their, the trades, some of the Draft and Stash was comical, its one thing to draft and stash with the eventual intent to actually play them but the latter part of the 1st round and almost all of the second it was like hey this kid is 18 playing in some d grade euro league lets draft him knowing he well never ever make to the NBA. 1. I'd really like to see 3 things happen. the exapansion of the D league to foster more talent rather having all these college guys who we know and can keep track of go to europe. 2. as one of the announcers said last night adopt the baseball model for the draft. If you feel your talent is worthy and ready enough to go pro straight outta high school go. but if you dont get picked or if your selected beyond where you wanted to you stay in college for 3 years. 3. Have a limit on how long a player drafted from Europe can be kept off payroll, or have rules based on intent of that player actually playing in the NBA. thats about all i got...and Good Job to Ubell and Talley for signing pro contracts. -

Well, I for one am glad he came back. I'm hoping Echenique can sneak into the second round. He's had a lot of workouts (12 at last count) and has been getting some pub as the highest rising player that wasn't even on the grid previously. 2nd round? Are you serious? ive said it before, his production for the bluejays merits a summer league look, and maybe a d-league tryout, similar to Maric, and Anderson for NU but no draft picks, i just didnt see it. i dont see how he fits in today's NBA, with the exception of a Memphis, maybe Orlando, maybe miami gives him a call as a free agent and they develop him. He's a defensive stopper. Creighton never double teamed a center all year because Echenique could handle them all by himself. He even shut down Duke's big man... IF he gets drafted it will be because of his defense. i can only see him in the mold of a Darrel Arthur from Kansas who now plays for the grizz at best, or at his worst maybe othella harrington from gtown who just bounced around. He can defend the NBA's 4 of this generation, and i guess given how little the 5's he could be decent at best, but against centers of Marc Gasol, Tim Duncan, Joakin Noah, or even Marcin Gortat i dont think he can defend them. I feel like his ceiling is 8 or 9th guy who can provide 6 fouls and a big body. No if he was born a decade earlier i feel like he could be very valuable in the 90's and early 2000's -

i believe the only players in this draft that will be all stars are Oladipo from Indiana, and McCollum from Lehigh. Recently i heard the B.S. report with Bill Simmons and Chad Ford, and i have to agree with them that after 12 its gonna be a crap shoot, and a lot of euro players that will be stashed abroad. The second round will be the same. -
Starters/Bench: PG: Biggs/Parker (i still like parker) SG: Gallegos/Webster SF: Petteway/Fuller PF: Shields/Rivers C: Pitchford/Smith Hawkins redshirts for next year when we bust out the most terrifiying backcourt combos in the BIG 10 Menke/Tryrance are break the glass in case of emergency players and leave Husker hoops fans to scream in fear and terror, and than sulk and cry and imagine what could of been Vucetic is the wildcard for me.. i just feel he dosnt have the size

how is he going to plummet? he cant control tai's test scores. All tim can do is go out and compete for the best players and athlete's like he is doing now, plus the real class that we need some big time players is 2015. I'm not saying it would be miles fault if Tai doesn't make it, but our 2013 class is going to be very average without Tai. I'm not sure I understand your logic of 2015 being a more important class than 2014. We have no true post threat, and without Tai there would be no dynamic guards. i think you misread what i was trying to say, i think all these intial classes are important, however i dont forsee signing any high 4 star, 5- star guys this recruting class, we simply havent been on their radar enought, in 2015 id like to see us grab these high 4 star, 5 guys because they've seen us in action, miles has made the rounds with his full staff, and bag of tricks. i feel 2015 is when we need to grab the elite players, as i just dont see us doing it 2014

Creighton is building a dedicated basketball practice facility as well. I doubt it will have all of the bells and whistles (or should I say shower Ipods) as Nebraska, but it will be pretty nice. After it is complete, almost all of the athletic facilities at Creighton will be brand new within the last five years. We certainly aren't as far behind as we once were and when it comes to facilities for non football schools, Creighton is among the best in the country nowadays. The CLink is bigger than Lincoln's new arena and will have higher attendance. The universities are different and market themselves differently. Creighton tends to sell the academic side, stress that basketball players are the "big men on campus" since there are no (american) football players, and use Omaha's amenities as other selling points. I'm sure they are pushing the move to the Big East as well, along with being a ranked program the last two years. I'd also suspect the development of McDermott might also be used as a "want to get to be an all-american/get to the NBA" sort of pitch too. (If Echenique ends up getting drafted, which is looking more and more like a possibility, it might help that sales pitch too). Ultimately though, who the hell knows what kids are interested in. Every school tries to put forth its best sales pitch and hope it gets the kid's interest. this is a seperate discussion for another thread, but i have to discuss it real quick....where did you hear Echenique even had a remote chance of getting drafted...if so what are scouts seeing that i never saw. Do a search on twitter. He has had individual workouts with at least 6 or 7 NBA teams so far (with another 4 or so to go) and is getting a lot of positive reactions. Rodger Bohn @rodgerbohn 9 Jun Lot of buzz around Creighton's Greg Echenique. No invite to Portsmouth, but def in 2nd rd mix w/# of teams.1st non-PIT draftee since J.Evans? https://twitter.com/rodgerbohn/status/34387780743 working out for a few NBA teams is good but i dont see a NBA team giving him a look in the second rd. correct me if im wrong other posters, but im pretty sure Maric worked for NBA teams, and had a summer team invite once or twice, but that was it, i kinda see a similar thing for Greg, but overseas is paying good money

i think summer teams do play to much i was talking about the amount of games they play in the high school season for their school. I like AAU basketball, but that and how football coaches want their players to be invloved has pretty much killed off the Multi Sport star.

yeesh an out of stater trying runza? did someone make sure he was ok this morning... -
i agree whole 100% i guess it comes from the sheer amount of basketball they play...for instance, in 8th or 9th grade i had a coach who was born raised in new york, and he would describe to me the process of the city championship...than the winner of that they'd play the state championship.. so in the course of two tournaments he said he played like 20 games, it seemed like, and he said maybe 25-40 season games. That and it just seems there always go getters.. if you need a bucket there gonna get it...Kemba Walker perfect example. Pitt Guards, St Johns, it always felt like a diffrent brand of basketball.

im just really impressed with our staff as a whole for recruiting purposes. first you have miles who has a good eye for developing talent. than we have the Craig Smith who gives us a big ten imprint, Harriman gives us those international diamonds in the rough you need, to string together program, now Hunter gives us the well...the players we need to compete for NCAA tourney games, and eventually higher goals. Hopefully we can attack the MD/NY/PITT pipeline and steal a few.

Norm, i thinks its just a case, of he wants to move on, maybe become a head coach, and that wasnt gonna ever happen at Gtown, maybe here he see's the potential to piggyback off Miles success, and go somewhere, or if it happends and miles leaves, possibly coach here, idk....all i know is considering my love for both programs, and seeing first hand how good the last five years have been for GTOWN...im pretty happy...estactic....delrious

yea, i feel that just ruined the off campus experience for everyone, i mean people would go out all weekend go to the games, typical college stuff. But after she went missing, it changed, a lot people would just go home, or to lincoln on the weekends. people were jusit to scared, it was very sad, and yes i wish they could nail him as well. other things like the flooding the year after that incident really hurt the campus as well. its been really a mess the last 3-4 years hopefully it bounces back.

there was a friend of mine from Charlotte who got an offer to play football for Peru State. He needed a full scholarship and they only offer partial scholarships, ones that cover 3,000 of the 5,000 tuition. They ended up signing like 35 kids in that recruiting class but my friend stayed local and ended up playing at Wingate where he got a full ride. Can't believe to this day they didn't give that kid a full ride, would've been the best player they had in a long long time. its insane, but than NAIA is kinda crazy in its own right, when i played football there 3 years ago back in 09-11 i was one of three kids who played football in the Metro, class A, we had 7 who played class A in lincoln the rest were small towns, and out of staters that were never gonna stay there, they refuse to recruit class a metro football and its ridculous. its the reason why Hastings and every other school kills them whenver we played them. you played at peru state? any idea where i can get some cheap Peru State gear online? My brother and I actually like to follow them even though we have no real affiliation with the university. How did you like your time there? maybe the school website, but i didnt mind it, i go back every few months to stay with friends and live it up, Football was fun, and the school in general was just a good vibe all in all, the atmosphere isnt what it used to be due to unforseen events but its still a great college, and expanding, the renovating the old stadium in nebraska, and a lot of facilities on campus, and i know there trying to schdule more nebraska teams.

last nights game was a tough one...LeBron played pretty much like Magic and somehow, the talking heads tried to say it wasnt enough somehow....i dont know how you play better than 18-18-10 but whatever, Battier is killing them right now, and it dosnt help that Bosh is just shrinking to the challenge i mean he had a good game but he needs to get more physical. And than chalmers....i dont know im done with him, every game, or for that matter his a jekyl and hyde peformance over and over again, even if they win this series im not gonna be suprised if chalmers, millier (who needs to be amestied, love him but his contract is an albatross) and anthony all shld be gone and those mintues need to go to Birdman and cole, and the player they add (a physical big man who gets spot mintues) -

dont get me started on Peru State's recruiting strategy for basketball and football, i feel like baseball, volleyball, and softball are the only ones who get it right.

i think the toughness concept is a misconception all together, its not the young guys of today's age fault that they dont have to travel or wear the sub standered equipment of the past they handle their buisness with what they have, but than again lets not assume the players from back in the day could hold up to the standards, of superior size, stregnth, weight training, resistance training, and nutrition of todays game, or dreaded long road trips like San Antonio's rodeo trip, or the clips and lakers Grammy trip, or for that matter just the overal play. after reading roughly 4 pages of this topic im beginning to see that im in the minority of posters that prefer the NBA game to college...maybe Royal Fan is with me, but for me i much rather enjoy NBA basketball.. i also apply most of my arguments from my father who has told me numerous times that the game is much higher quality in athletic ability and power than when he played, and the same sentiment applies to football and this is coming from a guy who played in the NFL
