I thought about going all Dion Waiters (best player at Syracuse for his two years there, never started a game, drafted #4), but that would've been a jerkmove. My apologies for the Maggette attack. Tristain Thompson (another recent example)

While it's fun to kind of imagine Elbert committing to us, the reality is there are a lot of big players trying to land him. I think the odds are probably better that Elbert heads elsewhere and David Wacker becomes a Husker. There are quite a few big players trying to land Elbert. But he is using one of his 5 official visits to come check out this campus. After next week we will see where we stand, if we have a chance, and just how much pull Kenya Hunter has with Elbert. Elbert could come away from next weekend and give us the same glowing report that Wacker just gave us. Then what? Are we then going to say chances are small because there are too many big dogs after him? We need to find that one guy. That one guy who has offers from all the big players but doesn't care because he wants to build his own legacy. From the small bits I've read about Elbert, he is that guy. Or at least the chances of him being that guy are greater than any other big prospect Miles has courted so far. I thought Myles Turner could've been that guy, but we didnt get Turner on campus. Elbert is coming to campus. Miles needs to sell that he can play right away versus waiting 2 years at any of the big player schools. Bottom line, I'm holding out hope until at least next weekend. i think other schools can offer him the “you can play right away”.. at G tech, Gtown, A&M he can play right away, but miles can offer “ hey your gonna” be the guy..between elbert, shields, and hammond were going to pound it inside, miles can say for a fact that is offense is flexible, as it was multiple times last year, other school cant. We can tell him for a fact, come in shape, and you'll be on the court 20-30 min a game and you'll get every opportunity to average 15ppg, 10rpg, and 3bpg per game as a freshman
-
agreed completly..sorry kids welcome to the professional world you'll be introduced to in 4-5 years anyway.
-
there few 7'0 300lbs with skill on the planet earth playing basketball...just look at the NBA they are desperate to find a "rim protector" if that players as offensive skill bonus...we are recruting the whole package. Bolden is good but he isnt what we need.
-
I will simply say this, I WANT BOTH! id want robinson...he has actual indicated intrest, and he is 7'0 tall....ill take my chances every day with a guy of his size and skill set..

what is your issue with this? its not like we are at a point that we can turn down size

Reading the Tea Leaves, Part ... whatever
bobcat402 replied to Norm Peterson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Doc was a pretty bad recruiter, and he couldn't coach an offense. pretty bad combo. I believe it was someone on here who wrote that Mike Gesell's parents said Doc told them that Nebraska wasn't dedicated to the basketball program (or something along those lines), and that was part of the reason he didn't come here. If that was the same poster who claimed he was listening in on Doc's phone calls with Elliott Eliason and spending time in the Gesell's basement, well ... I wouldn't believe a thing he said. Doc's strong suit was defense. I disagree with those who say who couldn't coach offense. His problem was that he didn't recruit guys who could shoot the damn ball. And that goes back to his failings as a recruiter. I question, first of all, his eye for talent when he brings in a kid like Alex Chapman but never offers a kid like Sheldon Jeter. And I don't honestly know whether his assistants were strong recruiters. He certainly didn't use them for much in the way of coaching and I don't know that they helped a lot with recruits, either. I agree that Doc had his flaws and one or two of them ended up being fatal to his NU coaching career, primarily the recruiting. But I will continue to maintain that he was a good Xs and Os coach. He just didn't help himself out with the players he was putting on the floor. Well said. Doc also did not have the $$$ to spend on assistance or the facilities to recruit to. Not saying he could/would be doing the job Tim Miles is - I highly doubt he would. doc was a lot of things. but not a quitter, and he would never say that university is not commited to an athlete. Back to Tim Miles, ill admitt i had my doubts but what he has come in here and down is nothing short of amazing..i feell a big time commit coming maybe not this year, bu next year we crack the top 50 -
mark me down as confused..why would some make a visit in two weeks. than the next trim that school of their offer list.....
-
it also took hibbert 3 years to be 30 min a night player..i watched almost every GTOWN game possible during his career, it wasnt until his junior year before he even resembled anything of a big east center...my expectations are somewhat similar for Elbert.

i agree with this real big men you get Success and Failure..for every Shaquille O'neal there is a Stanley Roberts..But in Andre’s case as much as with Christopher Nineneman (murdered his name) injuries really killed whatever development they may of had.. i know André was down to around 3 bills than he had his appendix injury in juco.,,than by the time he recovered he gained about fitty lbs and messed up his knee, same with CN hopefully if can pull of this small miracle Elbert will come in development his Juvenile Body into his "Man" body as the talking heads say...Im not sure how old he is but with these tall guys it takes them awhile to get coordinated and get rid of all that bad weight....that my hope at least..at least we already have Hammond, the meat and potatoes with side salad...this kid would be the 100,000 dollar shopping spree in the candy store Counterpoint: Andre Almeida. I'm in no way implying that he's anything like Almeida but stating that you could apply your reasoning 4 years ago when bringing in Andre. However, even if this guy is a stiff and doesn't pan out he'd still be a major asset and be an important role player. The floor is pretty high on this guy which is one reason he's ranked so high. i agree with this real big men you get Success and Failure..for every Shaquille O'neal there is a Stanley Roberts..but in Andre case as much as with Chriopher Nieneman (murdered his name) injuries really killed whatever development they may of had.. i know andre was down to around 3 bills than he had his appendix injury in juco.,,than by the time he recovered he gained about fitty lbs and messed up his knee, same with CN hopefully if can pull of this small miracle Elbert will come in development his Juvenile Body into his "Man" body as the talking heads say...Im not sure how old he his but with these tall guys it takes them awhile to get coordinated and get rid of all that bad weight....thats my hope at least..at least we already have Hammond, the meat and potatos with side salad...this kid would be the 100,000 dollar shopping spree in the candy store

idk either im just speaking in grand assumptions.. which loosely based on information ive read from this bored and a few sites. for whatever reason we are hosting Smith and Wacker this weekend and i wouldnt be shocked if smith or wacker commit. id be shocked if both did or both had commtitable offers. Maybe Gilmore commits this upcoming few weekends to Creighton and this convo is moot (who am i kidding that will only amplifly the conversation)I don't disagree with you about our apparent interest, Bobcat. I just find it curious. And like I said, what I know for sure is that I don't know anything about the whys and wherefores of the inside workings of our basketball recruiting efforts. But it appears that, for whatever reason, Gilmore is no longer in the cards and I don't understand that. Just sayin'.i think the recent visit from robinson may be a clue...who knows this is so confusing but so awesome! we are know saying to kids who are rivals 150 that you know what...eh were gonna hold off...we think this guy may help us....cool times ahead for NU You're assuming we cooled on him and not vice versa you have you way of seeing things, i have mine...we offered a top 150 guy...he committed when offered a top 150 guy than cooled to either go after a potential dominating big or we pick up a game changing forginer or two talented athletic 4's who can bang inside...am i optimistic that gilmore becomes apart of our program? yea but not ahead of guy like Robinson or Bolden who i feel we have a moderate chance at....these are happy times.. 3 years ago this discussion isnt happening.
-
i watched his film...this is a guy the will be in THE LEAGUE someday..and this is the guy we need to steal away from the big boys...this is our wake up call basically, we need this.
-
some poster previously posted they didnt want him because he might have a low motor and poor work ethic. SMH first off if a 7'1 330lb center wants to come here you can instil a work ethic in him. plus we have hunter who got a lump of clay in Roy Hibbert and developed him into a All Big East Center...i think he can do something for this young man....shutters Hammon/Robinson duo.....drooling now if TIMMY MILES can get this GATA

kinda of what i was thinking, simply look at the way FLGC was constructed in the simpliest of observations they had a scorer, a distributor and than multiple hustle, and simply throw it up and ill go get type players. Considering the roster we have now, its possible that Miles wants smith to be that guy to fit that role.
-
I’m beginning to notice, that Miles is recruiting and assembling a roster that resembles those teams that Izzo up at MSU has been throwing out for a decade. Big guards, rangy forwards who do multiple things well, and some bangers inside who like to rebound, score inside and can pass.

I dont know norm. We were one of hammonds first officials(I think the very first?), and he committed on the spot and isn't taking any more visits. Based on what we can see, things might be looking better for creighton than us. -He just visited NU and CU a couple months ago, and Creighton is the first place he wanted to go back to. -We have no official set up with him that we know of. -We have Smith coming in 9 days who is the same size and position as gilmore. I disagree. None of us know whether or not he has plans to visit Nebraska. My guess would be that Tim Miles thinks that Nebraska's chances of landing Gilmore are much better, if Gilmore visits Lincoln to watch a basketball game in a sold out brand new arena when a team like FGCU or Miami comes to town, rather than if he were to come to town to watch a soccer game... Or maybe Miles thinks it would be good to have him visit Lincoln for a sold out Memorial Stadium for the UCLA or Michigan St game. Honestly, I would much rather Nebraska have Gilmore visit for a football or basketball game than visit right now. Especially for a soccer game... easy now....we dont want to get this disussion started again...we all know atmosphere and other sports should have no impact on what a basketball kid should make his decision.....
-
well we havent even gotten to 50 pages, let alone 25 pages on Gilmore...so judging by our intrest on this board to him....idk if we should take him...
-
yes. Would you rather have both zach and david as a package deal, or take our chances of getting either gilmore or bolden? I would rather go after Gilmore and Bolden. I would not make Zach Smith's offer committable, unless Gilmore completely eliminates Nebraska. I think Gilmore is a better player as well as the fact that he gives Nebraska future recruiting connections to Anderson in the 2015 class and Janacek in the 2016 class. I would like to see Nebraka exhaust all possibilities with Gilmore and Bolden, before moving on to anyone else. +10000000000000000000000000

shoulda went to Peru State, he could of been a local legend there...or something...maybe not legend since we are terrible.

jeeze at least were back on topic....sorry for stirring the board up with my apparently audacious comments

I can imagine the pitch now Miles: Leon this is 85,000 soon to above 90,000 people going insane for a meaningless non con game, can you imagine the atmosphere when were undefeated with Michigan State rolling in here and a shot to clinch the division a play Ohio State in the BIG TEN title game. Leon: no coach this is crazy Creighton showed me some lame soccer game and their blueprints for their facilities when i may not even be there anymore, Miles: Now Leon, imagine if you come to NU, 2014 were rolling after a pretty good season NCAA tourney appearance second straight season of sell outs and we play Michigan and Ohio state fresh off of sweet 16 appearances in the first games of the year at Pinnacle Bank Arena...imagine that atmosphere Leon: speechless, nods head commits to NU then and there. Bobcat, your posts are the most humorous I think I've ever read anywhere! After completely failing epically on the NCAA tourney smack, you now go after the due date on the completion of our new training facility and botch that too! (Incidentally it is scheduled to be completed late next spring or early summer, depending on the weather, so it will be there the entire time an incoming freshman will be on the team.) On the whole soccer vs. football deal, the key is in the presentation. Instead of selling the "look how many come out for football games", I suspect that McDermott and crew sell the whole "basketball players are the big men on campus at Creighton" angle. Who knows what works best, and it certainly varies kid to kid, but don't underestimate the idea that a basketball recruit may want to go to a place where basketball (as opposed to football) comes first in the sport minds of the kids on campus. I’ll give you i messed up on the tourney deal, Fair point...and the new facility fair point..i assumed Creighton hadn’t begun construction. BUT... i will refute your point, you can sell him on big man on campus spiel all you want..their still bringing them in for a visit at a soccer game, so you can talk about basketball all they want, this is still occurring at a soccer game, not a world cup game, or a even a friendly..but Creighton vs. UNO...I’m sorry i know globally its very popular, and its slowly surpassing hockey as America's fourth sport.. But in the end NU will bring him in for a visit to a top 15 nationally ranked football game and most kids in America prefer Football over Futbol... and thanks for calling me humorous, all take your backhanded sarcasm as a compliment nonetheless I’ll take it where I can get it. How do you know that Nebraska will be ranked in the top 15 when you bring Gilmore in for a visit? How do you know that the team Nebraska plays that day won't suck royally? Maybe he comes on a day where you are playing one of those non D1 schools like Idaho St? As far as the opponent in the soccer game goes, I don't think it really matters much. He will be seeing a top 5 soccer team play either way. Honestly, who the heck knows what drives these kids. You can't say the kid will want to commit because he went to a football game anymore than I can say he will commit because of what Creighton will offer. I mean, seriously, how many basketball players has Nebraska brought to football games in the past that didn't commit? Every kid is evaluating schools through his own set of criteria. I would say that if they choose a school for football/soccer or any sport other than the sport they actually participate in, I'd be a bit worried. Personally, I'd rather if the visits took place during basketball season so they can see exactly what they will be experiencing, but if you want them to commit during the fall signing period, a school doesn't really have that option. i know from personal experience when i was looking at colleges, how their other sports programs faired made a subtle difference in my choice...ironically Peru State had a terrible basketball team(my second favorite sport) so I was SOL. But the hyperbole about NU being top 15 is all my wishes and was meant for humor; i do believe we will use Football as a tool, as it’s we have along with the new arena, and the Practice Facility. Unless we are going to start recruiting kids like they did in He Got Game or Blue Chips, NU has to use what they have at their disposal. Much like Creighton does, i just feel are assortment of tools will win over Creighton’s, i could be wrong, and ill admit to it when i am.
