  1. Brandon Ubel looked like a stiff his first year.... he only played in my opinion, because there was not many other options.
  2. Not all players contribute in their first two years.... Some players take time to develop.
  3. If the intention is to increase scoring....then the shot clock should not be reduced, it should be expanded back to 45 seconds. The shot clock is a defensive tool...it helps the defense not the offense, so anyone saying that scoring will go up...is not realizing that the shot clock is like an extra defender...make it 24 seconds and it is like the defender just got 4 inches taller and a step faster. My ideas to increase scoring. 1. shot clock back to 45 seconds...this allows for more passing, more styles of offense and will eliminate a few jacked up shots a game if the clock was at 35, because a team could make 4 or 5 more passes to get open....Pace of play won't really be effected as it did not change much when the 45 second clock was reduced...the only effect seemed to be to reduce scoring. 2. Start calling the Travel and palming of the ball....and in conjunction with this....defensive players will start getting called for more of the clutching and grabbing they have been allowed to do...since they started to let players take extra steps, palm the ball, and start their jump stops after they have gained possession of the ball....Defensive players had to start grabbing as guys that travel, palm and take a hop step are much harder to guard with just good footwork and it started the clutching and grabbing that we see so much of.
  4. too much stoppage is bad...but for it to get fixed, it will take a whole lot of stoppage until players adjust. They need to call travelling, fouls, etc...as the rules state it... Eventually, players will adjust...it will just be an ugly game as they get the game back. I play a lot of ball at the YMCA at noon and play with a younger generation...they are very skilled, but if they had to play with the rules that I had to play with, some would not be able to showcase their skills..
  5. I disagree... I think if you bring in a guy like Vooch, you know he is a 2 or 3 year project...and you need those type of kids on your roster, especially at Nebraska....because year 4 and 5 might end up getting a guy that would never consider you if he was that good at year 1. It really does not matter if you redshirt him in year 1 or year 2, if he is 2 or 3 year project guy...and I think Miles had him play some this year telling him, that he might get more minutes if an injury were to occur to Alemida and ubel, than he might get next year.... who Knows...but projects are a big part of what will Make Nebraska a winner, because if we are generally not going to get guys that are as ready to play in year 1 as Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan and Michigan State.
  6. I think that Vooch will Red shirt next year.,...I think Miles knew he needed to add strength and it was going to be a two year process with him... I think that him realizing that he wasn't getting minutes this year, showed him that he needs to hit the weight room and add strength.... Had he redshirted this year, who knows if he comes to the same realization. Of course, I could be wrong and Vooch will announce his transfer tomorrow.
  7. I think the root of the bad officiating is they have allowed more and more steps. Traveling and palming the ball are the root of the problem. because it becomes so difficult to guard a player who takes extra steps or carries the ball, hesitating while dribbling, defensive guys began to grab and clutch...and eventually that became so common place, it was allowed... Heck, most guys start their jump stop after they grab the ball instead of before they grab the ball...and so when they go up for a shot, a player may bump them with the body even if they get all ball up high and officials just let the body go, because they have given the offensive player so much of an advantage by changing what is a legal jump stop. I think if they called Travelling and palming the ball, and called the clutching and grabbing that went along with it, the game would clean up in a hurry. I was watching a big ten game in the big ten tourney and counted 8 travels in a 4 minute media period that went uncalled...and many times the travels put the defensive player at a huge disadvantage and they start using their hands instead of their feet to try to catch up.
  8. Divisions...doesn't matter to me...they could pull them out of a hat,,,you win your division, than win title game....big deal, the teams that are good will rise to the top...
  9. I think they were nuts to fire tubby. Who do they think they are?
  10. McDermott is going to be a solid pro...to me that means 9th or 10th guy on the roster. He will play for ten years, cash a lot of checks, and still ave his knees when he retires. That is a pretty good gig, if you can get it...but it will be there next year as well.
  11. Fran will not get this program to the next level. I am not impressed with him as a coach.....
  12. If you can give a guy meaningful minutes...then play him. If you are not going to do that, redshirt him....which gives you options. I have three examples...Rich King played some as a freshman, but fifth year of him would have been more valuable then a couple minutes a game as a Freshman Brandon Ubel...I think his freshman year was a waste, and having him one more year next year would have been huge for our chances next year. Paul Velander...played 1 minute late in the season when he first played...had he not played that minute, he could have gotten a 6th year...Collier really screwed his choices by putting him in one game for one minute.
  13. I think the +/- is a good stat....but with any stats, the more information/more games...the more it can tell you.... One game can be an anomaly...
  14. I think too many people are worried about how good each program is at football, basketball, etc. That is not what is important...Branding and potential are much more important. Anyone that tosses K State as a possible expansion target does not get it....Kansas could be a target for the Big Ten, but never Kansas State. Also, Rutgers will spur more interest in College football in the New York area because they will start playing better teams...Rutgers vs Ohio State will start having a buzz around NYC...will it ever be as big as Nebraska, not in proportional numbers, but in Raw numbers it will become much bigger. If I was up and coming Football coach, the Rutgers job, just became a very interesting job...Great recruiting areas, and now you are going to have guranteed games against Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin and occasional games against Nebraska, Michigan and Michigan State.... One of the reasons Rutgers has never captured the imagination of NYC...is that they play Uconn, South Florida, Louisville....In 10 years, I see Rutgers becoming the thorn in Ohio State's side for the Leaders Division title year in and year out.
  15. The court that just had one fan in the stands...that was priceless. Probably, thought before the game, nobody will notice if I go to the game alone.
  16. Assuming it is not for games, and only a practice tool....I worked with a Varsity basketball coach who had a line like that put on the court....it was a reminder to not shoot a shot outside of 17 feet (or whatever it was) that was not a 3 pointer...that shot does not have enough reward, for the risk taken.
