What about at Barton? What about at Northwest Florida? What about his extensive track record as an Assistant Coach working under Gillespie, Pearl, and Marshall? Dude knows how to grind, has an extensive record doing so, and is deeply connected. And how sure are you about that with Hoiberg? He had one good run (a great run, not dismissing that) where he hit lightening in a bottle with the transfer market before it was a big thing. Other than that he’s been a failure as a head coach. He has a 47% winning percentage post Iowa State. Every coach out there had to deal with COVID. That post the other day made about other coaches hired in ‘19 should have been illuminating for everyone. Only with Nebrasketball would we have this low of expectations.

Norm, Steve Forbes is a ridiculously good basketball coach and would instantly do everything that I feel you love about basketball coaches. I’m surprised you’re so dismissive about him. Forbes would immediately bring a real, true toughness edge we haven’t seen around here in a long time. He’d value dawgs over hype. Hoiberg has to pivot to valuing these things. Forbes lives by those things. He’d be a home run hire. I know you loved Miles - IMO, Forbes brings anything and everything Miles did… but with just a little more… I’m not sure what the word is… “gravitas” (?) to the toughness/dawg mentality persona.

FH was a slam dunk hire. 100% with you on your post… just wanted to point that statement out.

Man…. I’m not sure what else to say besides this has been an unmitigated disaster. I believe if FH was literally any other random coach we hired instead of him this board and husker nation would be completely up in arms. And he would have been fired maybe even at the end of last year.

Nebraska (10-11) vs. Maryland (13-7) Game Thread
basketballjones replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
CJ Wilcher - absolutely great kid and I appreciate him being a Husker - really frustrates me. He’s sneaky lazy out there. Doesn’t do a lot of the small, non-stat basketball things that make a good player (of course, as a team, we really struggle with that in general). I need to see more out of him to be excited about next year or his future as a player here. -
I will believe that when I see it. I have zero information on this or any inside sources. Just don't get a good gut feeling.

I'll never forgive whoever created this thread.
-
The title of the thread lists him as a 2025 recruit...? Is that wrong?
-
The way he's built and the springs he seems to have, as a sophomore, it's an obvious offer IMO.
-
Said the same thing to my buddies. I kinda like him. Not sure what "position" he is yet, are you? Would hope a guy his size is more of a point guard or an absolute dead-eye from 3pt. He's scoring a lot of wild points on, what I feel comfortable saying now, a bad team. That's his ceiling imo. But I'll give him credit where credit is due, guy plays fearless and seems like a great teammate.

Gotta haves, portal or otherwise

I have zero information or sources to back this up, but I just cannot see Hunter Sallis playing for Nebraska. He has some other school or Creighton (if he were to come back) written all over him. Just my gut instinct. The comparison of John Tonje to CJ is fairly accurate, but honestly I think Tonje is better. Just my opinion. Just a better "basketball player," imo. The NDSU guy would be an incredible get. -

Everyone's talking about this style that Fred has created... 1. He hired in the defensive scheme. Which, I mean, credit to him I guess for making the change and farming it out. But... 2. The two players who make what we're doing offensively work are highly specific, special players, and gone next year. He's definitely going to get another year. I just do not see Alberts chopping down with the axe this year. But is he going to get an extension? Or is he just a dead man walking next year?

Absolutely blows.
