Please, please, please just foul Happ when he is within five feet of the basket -

We might need to put McVeigh or Borchardt in and go to the "hack a Happ" strategy over the final 10 minutes whenever he catches it, especially while they are in 1-1 bonus -

I feel really good about this game. We are playing solid basketball right now and the inconsistencies that plagued this team for most of the first 2+ months are not as frequent now. Watching this team earlier in the year, you could see the potential in intermittent short spurts and occasionally for a whole half. Now those short spurts are longer and more frequent now and we've seen pretty good play last over entire games (Mich, Iowa). It's for this reason I feel confident that we win over teams with much less talent, like a Wisconsin. We are simply better and now much more likely than not to play to our potential. -
I was looking as well and found this on a different site. It sounds like we need to be physical with him as he continues to be limited. If he gets in the lane, we know Jordy knows how to foul so hopefully he can make some of them effective!

Selection Committee Games of Interest
Nebrasketball1979 replied to hhctony's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Hmm...thinking we want Michigan to hold serve at home to get our win against them closer to the Tier 1 threshold by having an RPI better than 30. The Northwestern win on the road is firmly within Tier 2 (76-135) so a loss to Michigan tonight and they are still firmly a Tier 2 win. -
Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board

I'm not sure if this has been posted before but I found it very interesting that you can go to the website below and get the current "team sheets" that the selection committee will see when they are in the room. A huge issue is the fact that our average win this year comes against teams with an RPI of 192. I also find it very telling that this metric is shown in larger font in the upper right hand corner. This is going to stick out like a sore thumb. The losses are all acceptable but when presented this way, I can see why we still have a lot of work to do and why we aren't sniffing the next 15 out on a lot of brackets. Just keep winning baby! Agree 100%. The more we win and the later we get into the season, there will certainly be more selection committee eyes on our games because we're in the bubble conversation. I do believe that the "eye test" is a real thing and for that matter that we've passed that test since roughly mid-December, even in our losses. The problem is that we haven't exactly been in the conversation during this run of good basketball. We need to win with style points and really hammer some of the lesser competition we are facing. The Iowa game was a good start and I'm of the mindset that we just need to find a way to win on the road. Beating Maryland, Indiana, and Penn State soundly could go a long ways in helping our chances, especially if one of those teams happened to be on the bubble as well.. All I know is we would be in a world of hurt if there was some sort of BCS computer system deciding our fate! -
KenPom 2017-2018 KenPom Rankings Thread
Nebrasketball1979 replied to 49r's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Welcome...I think the general consensus is that 21 leaves us on the wrong side of the bubble, 22 and I think the opinion is split. My opinion is that we are probably falling just short. I think most everyone agrees that we are dancing at 23. If we had just one of the wins against Kansas, Creighton, or Ohio St., I don't think you would see as much debate over whether it's better for us if Mich. St. or Maryland wins ? -

There is not a 1-1 correlation there especially when I guess at what I expect Mich St to do the rest of the year. I think Mich St. is going to figure it out some point relatively soon and start rolling again, which would help offset a small drop in RPI from a road loss. I am arguing for having another higher quality win, so to that extent I am pulling for Maryland. It won't matter though if we don't take care of business. -

I don't disagree with your logic which is why I think a Maryland win is helpful. Maryland likely has at least two more losses coming so if we take care of them at home, I don't see any way we drop 3-4 more games and fall below them. Having their RPI and KenPom around or better than 50 would be helpful for our computer rankings if we beat them. The tiers are an important metric but the computer rankings are still one of the criterion in the room as well. We are probably splitting hairs though, bottom line is we need to win and win in bunches. -

I certainly would take a Maryland win. We could really use another quality win and I think only Maryland, and to a lesser extent, Penn St. could represent that until the Big tourney. A win over a top 50 Maryland team and one that is on the bubble as well could make a difference to the committee, especially if there is a debate between Maryland and Nebraska. -
A few thoughts.. - It was really nice to see the ball go through the hoop, especially from three. Hopefully that gets us in a little better groove from deep. - I was dead wrong on Jordy and am very glad he is back on the team. The crowd recognizing his efforts was awesome. - After Iowa got it to 2, that 11-0 run in 1:20 is what makes a the difference between good and very good teams. This team continues to show great resilience. - Iowa just beat Wisky by 20+. Let's go do the same before that well earned week off!

I can't believe this Iowa team is coming off a 20+ point win over Wisconsin. Let's finish this game strong and roll into and through Wisky. -

Man, I don't get wrestling, probably because I never watch it but in the fifteen minutes I saw, it was a bunch of dudes dancing in circles while holding hands and giving head hugs. I am sure they are freakishly athletic but give me the constant action of volleyball anyday -

These types of games are the worst. Win and it helps in the conference race but won't move the needle nationally. Lose and it's a terrible loss that really makes it difficult to find a path to the tourney without winning the conference tournament. Hate to say must win but it's more like can't lose. Lose this game and we probably won't bring the pitchforks out when someone resurrects the Nitology thread. So, let's make the whole NIT discussion irrelevant and go out and kick some Hawkeye butt! -

This is undoubtedly the greatest unknown. I think we're going to have to hope that the committee isn't sabermetric reliant and does have rationale discussions about how teams actually look and compete. If decisions are based solely on computer numbers, we are going to have an issue unless we can pick up at least 1 high quality win in the Big 10 tournament. Otherwise, lets just hope the committee gives partial credit for close losses kind of like some teachers did in school when you missed a problem but at least showed your work. We've showed very well since Mid-December and that is hopefully worth something!
