  1. Will be interesting to see if Coach Smith pursues any openings. There will be a lot of them.
  2. Actually, it was a pretty good analogy....not that I have any recall of such a scenario.....
  3. Part of the reason I said it was a "head scratcher".....I didn't say she was bad, couldn't play, that I know more than the staff, etc....just that from a distance, she's either a huge reach or a glorious diamond in the rough with a big upside. I'd love it to be the latter.

Suspect it didn't happen. She doesn't look 6'4" to me....one way to tell is to stand her next to her brother, who started at East the past couple of years; he's a liegitimate 6'5". How schools list players' height and weight has always been fascinating.

    Tom Crean

Interesting; thanks for sharing, Gov. I've watched Crean a lot this year, and he seems on the edge--it wasn't just the incident after the Michigan game. Perhaps he's one of those guys that has a switch during competition, and he's OK away from it. I could see a meltdown like Eustachy's in the Elite 8 Game against Michigan State if he doesn't watch it.
  6. I almost obliged! You get to throw one score out, so perhaps you'll get me yet.
  7. Not even close to the same situation. No, I didn't even come close to saying or thinking that about Griffin, and nether did anyone else who closely followed women's basketball. A lot of teams tried to recruit her late, but we were fortunate she stuck with us. I guess time will tell; we'll see in a couple of years if I know anything.
  8. Signing Tvrdy and Ramacieri are just flat out head scratchers.
  9. Prayers said and more on the way. Hang in there.
  10. Not a Hawkeye fan at all, but I think Fran's brought in some pretty good players and has done some good things, following Lickliter's failures. Norm, you know I love ya, but I gotta disagree with you here. Although the line about felating lighters was pretty sweet.
  11. Sure glad we had one left in case we would have been trapped in the corner with 12 seconds left vs. getting fouled, or couldn't have gotten it in bounds. And why give Painter a chance to draw up a play to get a 3? Coaches in this league are unblievable in implementing plays during time outs. Yeah, they got one with 30- some seconds left--but Miles and Smith must have been doing something right since Purdue went 2-12 for the game from 3. Pimp Mario, I must say you're hyper-critical after this game.
  12. Great post, Silverbacked. I concur. This has been a great season; I've enjoyed rooting for this group more than any in recent memory. 15 wins; are you kidding me? I was hoping to get to 10. A shout out to Uneblinstu, who said all along we'd win at least 5 games in conference. Agree about the staff. It was interesting to see Coach Smith handle the entire timeout huddle late in the game. I appreciate this staff not tanking the season for "the future". So many times a new coach sacrifices a season to implement his system (and sometimes ego) in a program. Our seniors deserved better than this, and they got it. (Contrast Collier's first year) I believe this will pay dividends down the road in terms of the players currently in the system respecting and buying in to the staff.
  13. Wish I could go. I officially have a bad job. Cheer us on to a W.
  14. Great pics, Dimes! Congratulations, and thanks for sharing.
  15. He was not. Great shooter but poeple questioned his size for the 2 guard and his athleticism. But like Wagner, his dad was his coach. Including Danny Nee. You are right about that....I was part of some off the record discussions between Danny and the press which validate your post. Cochran was always better than Danny thought he was. Interesting how the "projection" business is sometimes--Obviously a whole lot of coaches ignored Cary's accomplishments in high school, thinking he couldn't do that at the next level (they were somewhat correct--he was mainly a spot up shooter in college as opposed to a scorer; still he was good enough to play here and I'm glad we signed him). Cedric Hunter comes to mind--To this day I think it was Moe's single biggest mistake. He thought Cedric got all of his points around the basket, and wouldn't be able to do that at the next level since he was barely 5'11". While he never was a great outside shooter, he was an outstanding college point guard at KU. Billy Ball discusses this concept with regard to baseball. Beane says the "projection" business relies too much on "measurables" and not enough on what the player has actually done in their careers--Beane would have offered Cochron a scholarship based on the accomplishments cited in Uneblinstu's post above.

  17. I don't need to repeat myself, but beyond the future he is working with players right now. Ubel & Talley will not be able to help the team next year but they are here right now and you want a coach that has your back, treats you like a human being and not a commodity, and has loyalty to his players. If this years' players and those two in particular want to keep playing then we should keep playing if given the opportunity. Well said

    Tom Crean

Good point; especially with Jim and Crean. They both have that look....I hope it ends well for them, but they are as far out on the ledge as anyone can be.
  19. Guilty as charged, Norm. I do recall scoffing at CWG when he suggested Rivers could be decent. Bugeater Moon said the same thing based on his prior practice observations. You may have been with those guys as well; I can't recall. In any event, I was on the wrong side of this one, I'm happy to acknowledge.
  20. Despite the height, is she really a true post player? Sounds and looks like she's a finesse player; skilled for her height, but not a physical inside player. I suspect she'll block a lot of shots, but may struggle with rebounding if she can't improve her strength. Either way, she'll have to play a lot of minutes, whether she's ready right away or not, due to our lack of depth.
  21. Any comments on his tirade against the Michigan assistant after winning the title against Michigan? I would hate to see how he would act after a loss. Perhaps someone can link. This guy is obviously a great coach, but he is on the edge of sanity. This incident isn't it with him; it often looks like he is an eyelash from completely losing it. I hope all the people who have a fit when Bo has a sour look on his face are equally offended by everything Crean does.
  22. I would be shocked with a 3 seed. And while Coatney was pretty sure of a 4 seed after the game, I think it will be a 5 seed. With a better chance of being a 6 seed than a 4. Not that I know near as much as much as Matt, I don't. Hope the others are right.
