  1. Why is it that we don’t have “anyone else who can consistently do what she did”?
  2. Allegedly because he's not at all happy there, and he's tight with his girlfriend who plays volleyball at Creighton.
  3. I don't think it is baffling. This staff has always struggled to recruit. Go through the classes, and see how many busts (every staff has some, but our numbers are quite high). We lose a ton of head to head matchups with conferences foes when really good players narrow it down to the last 2 or 3 schools. In-state recruiting has really suffered other than lucking into Markowski late. The Australia pipeline has been the lone bright spot. Our bench got outscored 37-3 last night by one of the worst teams in the league. We don't have enough players for this level. Losing Weidner isn't an excuse for a complete lack of depth. I appreciate the player development concerns expressed on here, but I'm mainly in the camp of "recruit much better".

    2024.....

It's not an accident what's going on at Creighton. Flan was there years and now fairly suddenly he's a huge success? Maybe, just maybe, something is happening there behind the scenes....
  5. No need to apologize. Have any opinion you want. . The discussion started with recruiting athleticism, and if you think we’re doing good in that department, own it.
  6. Do you watch much Big 10 basketball? How do we compare athletically?
  7. Williams doesn’t recruit athleticism. Sam pre-injuries was about as good as it’s gotten in 7 years.
  8. And in our giddiness, I don’t think anyone has mentioned the nice win by the Friars over the team 60 miles down the road. Epic night!
  9. Yep, great moves by Trev. Seat needed to be hot apparently for Fred to make major, necessary changes to what we had been doing. Starting with firing Matt. We started winning and playing better immediately after Trev stood by Fred late last season, all while requiring needed change. The improvement has continued. Love the portal pickups even though 2 of them are hurt. Those 3 were not Matt type of guys. Huskers are much better to watch now, even when we don’t win.
  10. Well, it’s hard for an opinion to be “dishonest”, so i’d ease up there a little. Derrick and Sam, and I have reason to believe Kesei, will be hard to Replace. Never said they were irreplaceable. Those were your italicized words, not mine.
  11. Don't think it is short, at least. Don't know about the manageable part, but between the portal and/or Juco, they're gonna have to find guys, and it won't be easy. We're going to have a lot of turnover, and we need dudes. Lots of them. And much better ones. We're still in 12th place, and our best players aren't returning.
  12. Wow, this thread really triggered a couple of Jay fans.
  13. Well, good thing you're not Chucky. It didn't bother him at all.
  14. As an aside I had the pleasure of spending some time with Emmanuel Bandoumel yesterday. A very impressive young man. And did you see Griesel fist bump Kent before tipoff? We have some really good kids on this team.
  15. I also thought Kesei played his best defense as a Husker yesterday.
  16. Would not surprise me at all, Norm. In fact, I expect it. Despite the North Platte girlfriend.
  17. A potpourri of excuses. Well done.
  18. Our defensive footwork is terrible. Watch the film, it don't lie. And the lack of athleticism hits us the hardest on defense.
  19. As of now, UNL basketball is not part of 1890. It is part of a different collective. Certain boosters of means are in fact supporting NIL. The question is if there is enough of them. Others have answered your question "do they see it making sense?" as "No". It's a shift in thinking for many of these folks from donating to endowments, scholarship funds and buildings, to direct payments to players. I struggle with it myself. Stay tuned.
  20. Trev has major comments in an interview yesterday; perhaps someone can link article in separate thread. FWIW, I basically agree with everything Trev said. Clearly we have made substantial progress this year in improved assistants, culture, effort, defense, and an identifiable offense which is much more fun to watch than the McGowens/Verge/Teddy hero ball extravaganzas. Too bad it didn't happen sooner. My concern remains the roster. With a light November class, a strong portal/juco spring class is imperative. There is no way the returning roster (and at this point we don't even know what that is; expect some departures) will get us out of the bottom 4 in the league. In other words, to compete at the level we are required to compete, we are bereft of talent at this moment in time. Trev essentially noted that, paraphrasing, "now, for Fred, it is about recruiting."
  21. Well, we got him a girlfriend from North Platte, and that may be just as effective….
  22. Some on here figured it out way before he was an ex-coach.
  23. Do you think Matt A. Did a good job while here?
