SIAP - I was flipping channels, and noticed Leigha Brown suited up in the WNBA game. A quick Google found this headline; "Connecticut Sun Acquires Leigha Brown in Trade with Atlanta Dream." Glad we won't be facing her anymore.

Do you expect any open scholarships when the season gets here? I imagine there would be some concern, expressed by fans, if there were.
-
The men might get two fewer scholarships, but still had 17 players on the roster last season, and 19 players the year before. How is having a shot at more playing time a good thing, when it is because of less competition? It is obviously a long time between seasons. At least we have this forum to hold our interest. Have a good one.
-
Why would I ask Hoiberg? He recognizes the need to utilize every scholarship. He just didn't make great decisions at times, and his record shows it. You would certainly need to exercise due diligence, to bring in appropriate players. That goes for everyone on the roster. My question; wasn't losing scholarships one of the 'go to' penalties the NCAA used for rule infractions? Extra bodies seem to be a good thing. Not using the scholarships also affects Title 9 numbers on the men's side. Not filling a roster bugs me. Right or wrong, it makes me question if the staff is up for the task. Who knows, maybe they will add a couple more players before September.

I remember us dressing 8 players for some games this past season. Wouldn't it make sense to pick up a couple 'one year' eligibility transfers, even if they are marginal players? What could it hurt?
-
No Brady or Dillard. The Huskers stuck with them for a long time. I hope that reflects well on the program. We have two openings left. Any idea where we go to fill those spots?

Per LJS The Nebraska women's basketball team and coach Amy Williams picked up a commitment for the 2025 class on Friday with Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, sophomore McKenzie Mathurin choosing the Huskers in a Twitter post. Last season for the Tigers, Mathurin averaged 20.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game in 27 contests. The 5-foot-10 guard had over 30 Division I offers in hand, including Kansas State, Colorado, Purdue, Creighton and Wisconsin, before picking Nebraska. She was also a first-team all-state selection for the Tulsa World and the Ms. Outside winner in 2022-23, helping Broken Arrow return to the 6A state tournament for the first time since 2016.

John Cook comments about Maggie Mendelson playing basketball
12dozen replied to HUD's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
When Coach was talking, as Hud mentioned, Cook said it is easier to go from basketball to volleyball. Being a part time basketball player, will not be easy. Not sure she will ever reach her full bball potential as a part time player. But, volleyball is her favorite sport, and she looked very good Saturday. Happy to have her as a Husker. Regarding the volleyball frosh, they were amazing. Add in the fact Maggie M. is the same age, and what a crop of 17/18 year olds we have. Cook must pinch himself at times. -
Sam, do you have an opinion, why so little Husker WBB info, makes it to newspapers or websites? Thank you for mentioning Brady and Dillard. Nothing but crickets regarding them, for some time.

April 24 — Te-Hina Paopao commits to South Carolina, Lexi Donarski to North Carolina

April 21 - 23 is a recruiting "Evaluation Period". (Certified nonscholastic events only) Looks like the staff will be watching high school age players compete. Per the NCAA, "an evaluation period is that period of time when it is permissible for authorized athletics department staff members to be involved in off-campus activities designed to assess the academic qualifications and playing ability of prospective student-athletes. No in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts shall be made with the prospective student-athlete during an evaluation period". Hope this helps.

It certainly beats an unused scholly. And, I think she'll help. The kid plays "D". I agree with what you say. Hard to find a downside to this addition (IMO).
-
By my count, if Brady and Dillard are truly gone, we still have a couple open scholarships. I sure hope we bring in two more players. Looking ahead, Shelley, Stewart(?), and White will be playing their final year. At a minimum, there will be 3 available spots for the next class. Plus, will Amy's daughter be a walk-on? To me, these numbers would make sense.

Per Tweet posted in the On3 forum. Montana State WBB transfer Darian White (5-6 SR point guard, Boise, ID) has announced her commitment to Nebraska; 2022-23 stats: 14.3 PPG, 5.6 RPG, 3.6 APG; 3x first-team All–Big Sky One year of eligibility left (Covid year).

Assibey spent the past three years as an assistant coach for the Gators. In his tenure, he helped Florida to three consecutive postseason berths. Assibey joined the Gators after spending four years as an assistant coach at Montana State, where he helped the Bobcats to a pair of Big Sky regular-season titles and one conference tournament crown. In addition to his assistant coaching duties, Assibey served as the recruiting coordinator for Montana State, which produced nine all-conference honorees including a pair of Big Sky players of the year. Born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, Assibey grew up in Downey, California, before earning four letters in men’s basketball while also competing in track and field (long jump, triple jump, 4×100-meter relay) at William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Assibey earned a bachelor’s degree in sports administration and strength and conditioning in 2005. Assibey then completed his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in 2013, while being an assistant coach at Merrimack College. Assibey’s been an assistant coach for over 15 years and will take over for former assistant coach, Tom Goehle, who retired from his position last week.

I think it is reasonable to assume Dillard and Brady are gone. But, unless something is shared, who knows. The lack of mention is almost comical at this point.

Is assistant coach Tom G. moving on or retiring?

It would also be appreciated if there were some mention of Brady or Dillard. I still wonder why they didn't, at least, sit on the bench and support the team, during home games. -

Jessica signed her LOI today. April 12th is the opening day of the spring signing period. -
Stumbled onto this site. Might be of interest. https://justwomenssports.com/reads/ncaa-basketball-transfer-portal-tracker-2023/

Wishful thinking..... Maggie Mendelson decides to play basketball full time ....... That would elevate the scenery considerably.
-
Not sure about Fred and Connie. In my original post, I asked for opinions on why we don't see more WBB info. Do you have an opinion to share? My first suggestion was regarding media. Huskerpapa gave an excellent response.
-
That makes a lot of sense. On3 covers the WBB games, but very little (if any) recruiting. Not sure what other subscription forums cover.

I agree with your take. She doesn't seem to go out of her way, to nurture a relationship with the average fan. And yet, we usually have a top 20 attendance average. We love our Huskers.
