My interpretation of development is probably too basic. On the court, I'd like to see a players impact on a game, become greater from year to year. There are extenuating factors for sure, but I'd like to see stats improve from one year to the next. If a player is the reason for regressing, she should be put on the right path, or encouraged to find another. Everything comes to rest on the head coaching desk. Improve the players skills to succeed. And, those skills aren't all confined to the court. Hard to quantify, for sure. All we have to go on, is a W/L record and what we see watching them play.

Saturday morning rant... When Trev was looking for a new head coach, replacing Scott Frost, he mentioned expectations. Among them were the level of work ethic, ability to recruit, organization/communication skills, etc. Most Husker fans are optimistic, Rhule is the guy. Are the expectations the same of other Husker head coaches? That brings me to our WBB program. Why isn't it more transparent? What kind of work ethic do they bring to the table? Do they spend the needed time on the road recruiting? Are they hosting official visits? Are they building relationships with local coaches? Are they making official offers? Are they holding clinics, attending clinics? Do they have open practices? What are they doing? The lack of information, makes one wonder. What kind of effort is being made to improve this program? How are you going to increase interest, sell more tickets, if nothing is shared? Is this a lack of effort by media, or lack of access by staff? Hard to get on the Amy bandwagon, with so little information to go on.

Brings us back to the "Player Development" concerns, expressed by many in this forum.

And Maggie doesn't report until volleyball season is completed.

Sam, have you ever asked why there are 2 open scholarships, and another two occupied by players that don't play? (not to mention one going to MM, a part time player) Maybe with a deeper roster, fatigue wouldn't be as big a problem.

Good game until the stripes decided to give Illinois some help.
-
So far, so good. Everyone got some minutes. Don't think we have anyone in foul trouble. In good position for the 2nd half. Anyone expecting Illinois to ramp up some defensive pressure?

5 of the next 6 games are on BTN+. The Iowa game is on regular BTN. Join now, and cancel after a month. Not a bad deal for approximately $10.

So much dribbling, while others watch. Movement please. Motion please. Screens please. Imagine "hot potato". Turn that pressure into easy buckets? Easier said, than done. I know. Why does "Groundhog Day" come to mind?

The lowest turnover average, of the last four years, was 2020. We averaged 13.9 turnovers a game that year. Prior to the last 2 games, we were averaging 15.8 a game this year. Imagine we are 16+ turnovers a game by now. Looks to be an ongoing problem, not being fixed.

If opponents don't press us from the opening tip, I'll be surprised.

Do 10 and 11 year old girls get in free? When we shoot free throws, it sounds like a bunch of little girls screaming at a concert.
-
Not sure why Coley doesn't get a few minutes. Didn't she give a nice effort, in limited time, a couple games ago? At least she has Allison to visit with. Hang in there, Kendal.

Nice quarter. Stewart seems to be finding her range.

MARKOWSKI NAMED TO LESLIE AWARD TOP TEN FINAL LIST
12dozen replied to redsteve's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
Agree on Whitish. I do think she would have been better as a shooting guard, not point. Also agree on previous posts. Didn't see much improvement from Kate Cain or Maddie Simon from those years. The current roster, development of Stewart, Coley, and possibly Markowski is questionable. Michigan, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, and Ohio State all finished in the final AP top 20 rankings last season. Not too shabby. As of this week, the same 5 teams are the only conference teams, ranked in the top 25. -

Ronsiek is another nice player. Not too far away, Sioux Falls. I wish there was more information, shared by staff, on recruiting. Thank goodness for this forum. Nice to read we have another commitment from Australia.
-
Agree. On the play in question, the player went up with the shot, close to a foot behind the 3-point line. Haiby ran by her, clearly on the other side of the 3-point line. Took a flexible player to make that contact happen. Regarding the officials. This reminds me of the old Omaha Lancers games. There was always a trumpet player there, who performed "Three Blind Mice" when an official made this caliber call. Always amusing.

I like the idea. I'm sure they can prep for practice, and give our team certain looks of the upcoming competition. I'm sure certain players can simulate individuals. If we're going up against height, I'm sure they can give that look. They have a purpose. But I read, they utilize the guys at one practice a week. Is that not accurate? My original response was to a post, wondering if recurring issues, were being fixed in practice. My rambling thoughts, we might not have the numbers to maximize a practice session. Didn't intend to question the effective use of guys in preparation.

So, as I mention; Is using volunteer male students as good an option, as having a full roster that uses practices to develop?
-
Agree Seems like "Rinse and Repeat". Questions. Can this team even practice 5 on 5 to address the issues? We have 10 players on a good day. You can't blame it all on injuries. Open scholarships, zero walk-ons. Is using volunteer male students as good an option, as having a full roster that uses practices to develop?

Creighton was her first offer. Britt was an 8th grader (June 2020). I've asked this before. Is it NCAA legal to offer a 'Support Staff' position in Lincoln, for her mom? I doubt anyone would question her qualifications.
-
Is it just me, or do others think we roll out the same game plan, game after game after game? I like our players. They are a talented bunch. I think they are executing what they practice. I think they do as told. Inconsistent results must be frustrating for them too. I am not too upset with the W/L record. We have some nice wins. Yet, after games (or even seasons), I find myself discouraged as often as encouraged. Conflicted for sure.
