Hoiberg has occasionally played a 9th man (i.e. 20 games and 10ish MPG) but i never dug deep enough to find out more information behind it (was it due to matchups, injuries, suspensions, etc?). IMO he is just as likely to play only seven as he is to play nine.
-
Interesting. So Dalano Banton isnt making the depth chart? Teddy Allen is a backup; at PG nonetheless? Yvan Ouedraogo and Derrick Walker are both starting? I agree with Mack, Burke, and Thor as starters.
-
Well first, looking at the 2021 class there is going to be three schollies open plus whatever attrition occurs or the possibility (however slim it may be) that Mack, Banton, or Allen could go pro. I think we are looking at about a 5 player class for 2021. Second, I dont think Hoiberg builds rosters the traditional way. He is going to go get the players he wants and I honestly think he prefers the redshirt transfers bc he gets a whole year to coach em up and transform their bodies. But he has also has proof that he can grab HS talent, coach em up, and send em to the NBA. I just dont think it will be that big of an issue personally.

I personally love looking ahead. I have been pondering it all day and this is what I got. STARTERS Cam Mack 6'2 JR Dachon Burke 6'4 SR Teddy Allen 6'5 JR Dalano Banton 6'8 SO Yvan Ouedraogo 6'9 SO ROTATION Jervay Green 6'3 SR Shamiel Stevenson 6'6 JR Thorir Thorbjarnarson 6'6 SR BENCH Kevin Cross 6'8 SO Derrick Walker 6'8 JR Akol Arop 6'6 SO Charlie Easley 6'2 SO Man thats really tough to do!!

My guess is the now two open schollies we have will go to sit out transfers. Remember, Hoiberg likes to have two or three per year. Depth wise we are looking pretty good. - Back court: Cam Mack, Dachon Burke, Jervay Green, Charlie Easley - Wings: Thorir Thorbjarnarson, Teddy Allen, Shamiel Stevenson, Dalano Banton (not really sure where to put him lol) - Front court: Yvan Ouedraogo, Kevin Cross, Derrick Walker, Akol Arop

Dang Teddy im sorry!!! I didnt mean to hijack your entire thread. Lets get this bad boy back on track!
-
I could be wrong, but i do not think we will see too many 7 footers. Hoiberg, from what I understand, wants an athletic rim running big who he can teach to shoot. All the 7 footers that meet those qualities are 5* one and dones. I also think Banton eases some of the urgency to find a PG. He can back up Mack and is also capable of taking over the role full time as a point forward. Definitely agree though that this is shaping up to be a stacked roster! Very content with the present and future of Nebrasketball rn.

Glad to have Teddy on board. Im assuming the last scholarship goes to a sit out guy.
-
Over his five or six years at Iowa State he played eight man rotations with the exception of one or two years where it looks like he played only seven regularly. I cant speak on to how depth/injuries played in to that. However, it is worth noting that he likes to have two or three guys sitting out per year. I think an eight man rotation is a safe bet going forward.
-
Hate to jump ahead, but looking at next years roster (as it currently stands) got me saying OH BOYYYY! The guys are gonna have to earn their minutes! Especially with Fred's seven to eight player rotations.

Football recruiting is closing very strong.

You could argue that if this team was playing the first 8 games as well as it has played the last 2.5, they would have been 8-0 or 7-1 going in to Creighton. Love what we are seeing and i hope we continue to see growth and competitive basketball the rest of the season.
-
No chance of a post season tourney imo. I think the 0-2 start could be what costs them a .500 record. I think they will be competitive in a lot of games but there are still a couple beat downs left on the schedule, especially when we play our first couple games against upper echelon type teams. Still think my preseason prediction of 13 overall wins is a little too high.

2019 JUCO SF Teddy Allen - WNCC - Signed
khoock replied to basketballjones's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Worth pondering, if we get Teddy Allen does that make Donovan Williams start looking else where? They both seem to be 6'5ish scoring guards. I have clearly stated I am no talent scout, does anyone with that expertise mine comparing their skill sets? -
uneblinstu’s postgame chatter: vol 12; ed 11 vs. Purdue
khoock replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I promise this will be my last time posting this but... WHAT A SHOCKER THIS TEAM HAS FACED THREE ABOVE AVERAGE TO GOOD TEAMS IN A ROW AND HAS IMPROVED EVERY SINGLE TIME. I really think that we just had a deer in the headlights type of game against Creighton to start. That was the best team this team had played collectively, and for many players, individually. Last thing, if they play like this all year those first two games of the year will be very regrettable. GBR! -
Not that it matters to me, but one of my co-workers (were teachers) was reffing that game lol.

No complaints on my end. This team is severely limited for obvious reasons but if you think they are going winless in B1G youre an idiot. And i would have said the same thing before tn. This team is improving and gelling by the day. They will catch a team or two slippin this year. GBR -
Nebraska (4-5) vs. Indiana (9-1) Game Thread

And i say this only half way seriously, bc this is a great website. And the only place i have ever found where you can find Nebrasketball fans who are both passionate and knowledgeable. But man were some ppl on here grinding my gears after the Creighton game. But anyway GBR. Glad to see this team improving. -
Nebraska (4-5) vs. Indiana (9-1) Game Thread

Second game against a good team this season. And we are seeing massive improvements... Just like we did earlier in the season when we faced comparable competition consecutively. What a hard concept to grasp... for some of us on here. -

If we play Indiana (on the road) competitively, i will be going on a mini rant about what improvement is and what it actually looks like AND how the context of your schedule/caliber of teams your play IS important. GBR -

Like the uniforms. Love the semi beat down they are putting on the Lakers. -

So does Thor stay in the lineup while Green is suspended? -
I wonder if Arop or Easley get a look as the 8th man or if Hoiberg will just stick with a 7 man rotation (he has done it before).
-
This years non-con tournament field (not good) was very indicative of us as a team. Hopefully next years tourney lineup means we should have a decent squad. I think Hoiberg has a good feel for his teams. Remember he had been telling us since summer that we werent going to be very good this year lol.

Cam Mack and the reason I hate Twitter
khoock replied to Faux Mike Peltz's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I just hope that Cam Mack, and whoever he gets advice from, understand that there arent many coaches in college that can teach him what it takes to be a pro better than Hoiberg can. Hoiberg has played in the NBA, coached in the NBA, worked in NBA front offices, AND sent players to the NBA as a collegiate coach. I dont know the exact number, but I cant imagine many current college coaches can say the same thing.
