  1. Completely agree with the entire post. The question is, would he have been able to land any bigs through the grad transfer or JUCO route? Didnt seem like he had much success doing that.
  2. Miles roster would have likely been lacking size and shooting as well, since its safe to say Isaiah Roby and Thomas Allen would not be Huskers rn.
  3. Your roster would have looked like this. Im including all returning players since we dont technically know what attrition would have looked like under Miles. But im assuming certain players (Roby, Thomas Allen, Nana Akenten) would have been gone even with Tim Miles being retained. SENIORS Isaiah Roby 6'8 F JUNIORS Dachon Burke 6'4 G Jervay Green 6'3 G Nana Akenten 6'6 GF Thomas Allen 6'1 G Thorir Thorbjarnarson 6'6 G SOPHOMORES Amir Harris 6'6 GF Brady Heiman 6'11 FC FRESHMEN Akol Arop 6'6 F Karrington Davis 6'6 F Mika Adams-Woods 6'2 G * Possibility of having Johnny Trueblood back for his SR season and/or Tanner Borchardt waiver for another season since he exhausted an entire season for 1 min of game action
  4. I agree with this. And was something I had brought up earlier in the season in a different thread. I think there is B1G talent on this team. But I think some of guys are playing larger roles than what they should be compared to their ability. For example, Player A could be a solid bench piece for an average to good team getting 10-15 MPG. However, Player A should not be starting for your team, averaging 30+ MPG, and be the second or third leading scorer on your team. My hope is with the addition of our three RS transfers and two JUCOs, current players will be shifted to more appropriate roles. Hopefully that makes sense.
  5. Many on here rave about Kevin Cross's potential (and im not saying youre wrong) but right now he is a poor defender and only shows any offensive acumen in our ***what is suppose to be*** buy games. Plus, to me, it seems like he has too loose of handles to be a big that can bring the ball up the floor in this offense. He hasnt impressed me enough to think he will be a part of the rotation next season. But he's young and really good off season could change that.
  6. Yep. You cant let the few bright spots blind you from the fact that this was always going to be a long, ugly season. If you though differently, well, then you deserve the roller coaster of emotions youre experiencing
  7. Maurice Washington will not be apart of the team heading into the 2020 season. Seems as if Frost gave him enough chances. I hope Maurice Washington finds a good home. Hes still a very young man, with plenty of time to get it together. Also, he happens to be very talented. Good luck to him and GBR.
  8. Rn I see him as someone who could make the 8 man rotation or could find themselves riding the bench. Maybe a starter but probably not; definitely not a star.
  9. Its definitely going to be interesting to see how attrition shakes out this offseason. You could make a reasonable case for every returning player currently eligible.
  10. Not ready to deem next year's squad a tourney team but I expect them to be much much better. And definitely would feel comfortable saying they are an NIT team; as is. We will have depth. But there are too many question marks as to what the quality is. We have reason to believe that the returning players will improve and that the incoming ones will be positive upgrades. But as we learned this year the team wont "hit" on all the contributions us fans predict and/or some take longer to fruition.
  11. As I stated already, many of us on here thought we had one or both of those needs filled by certain players that are currently sitting out (i.e Dalano Banton and Shamiel Stevenson) or that will be here next year (i.e Teddy Allen) or that are being developed in our younger guys (i.e Kevin Cross and Akol Arop). But I guess rebounding and shooting are two things you can never have too much of.
  12. Dont know how likely it is, but I would love to see that. If Hoiberg and Co. really do believe in his elite level athleticism, he could be worth the five years on scholarship. Not that its probably worth anything, but being a local kid doesnt hurt either. Roster attrition will occur, but as it stands now id like to see Akol redshirt with a sit out transfer guard (preferably a freshman to help balance out the classes). Green, Burke, and Thorbjarnarson will all be senior guards next season and theres the possibility of Cam Mack leaving that year too.
  13. You are correct that he had a 9th guy that played semi regularly. But if i recall correctly (could be wrong), that 9th guy was usually in the 17 to 22 game range. Meaning they didnt play every game. Similar to what we will see Charlie Easley play this season or what Samari Curtis' role would have been before he transferred. He plays a 7-8 man rotation (every game; heavy minutes) with an additional player that plays 20-ish games in that 8-10 mpg range. What role that player was used in (injuries, matchups, foul trouble, suspensions, etc.) I have no idea.
  14. Breakdown of scholarships by eligibility SENIORS - Dachon Burke - Jervay Green - Thorir Thorbjarnarson JUNIORS - Cam Mack - Derrick Walker - Lat Mayen - Shamiel Stevenson - Teddy Allen SOPHOMORES - Akol Arop - Dalano Banton - Kevin Cross - Yvan Ouedraogo No current freshman and one open scholarship.
  15. Derrick Walker and Yvan Ouedraogo are the 5's in this system. Kevin Cross, Shamiel Stevenson, Akol Arop, Dalano Banton, Teddy Allen, and now Lat Mayen have all been mentioned in some capacity as being able to play the 4. Hoiberg is probably only gonna play an eight man rotation and only two guys at the "4" position; though as we have mentioned, alot of these parts will be interchangeable. The addition of Mayen signals to me that the staff thinks someone listed above isnt cut out to fulfill what they want at the 4 spot or that they see some of these players being best utilized somewhere else. Also the possibility of attrition.
  16. I listed 5 other players that have been thought to be able to fill that need/play that position, which is why i also stated I wonder what that means for some of the current players aka the 5 i listed. Whether that means certain players leaving or the staff seeing some players best at other positions. Thats all i was getting at.
  17. Cross, Mayen, Stevenson, Banton, Arop, AND Teddy Allen are all candidates to get time at the 4 next year.
  18. Very interesting. Didnt really think this was a need. Wonder what this means for some of the current players. Nonetheless, welcome aboard GBR.
  19. Just to follow up: - Thorir Thorbjarnarson is at a ridiculous 46% from downtown - Cam Mack is currently shooting 37% from deep (much better than expected) - Dachon Burke is shooting 35% - Charlie Easley is at 33% - Jervay Green is at a disappointing 30% - Kevin Cross is at a disappointing 26% - Akol Arop (1 attempt) and Yvan Ouedraogo (0 attempts) are putting up a goose egg Looking ahead to next year, I do not think its realistic to expect Cam Mack or Dachon Burke to improve drastically. If they can stay at that 37-38% range that would be great. Thor's percentage will come back down to Earth (right?). I expect Cross and Green to improve by a decent amount. I also expect Shamiel Stevenson and Teddy Allen to be above average to good shooters from deep. Plus whatever Dalano Banton and Derrick Walker provide. So my starting 8 man rotation would look something like this (from deep): - C. Mack 37% --> expect to maintain - D. Burke 35% --> expect to slightly improve - Teddy Allen --> expect to be in the 35-40% range - Dalano Banton --> dont know what to expect; complete wildcard - Yvan Ouedraogo 0 attempts --> do not expect 3's as an underclassman - Jervay Green 30% --> expect to improve into 35-38% range - Shamiel Stevenson 39% on 1.1 attempts per game --> expect to slightly decrease; higher volume - Derrick Walker --> dont know what to expect; heard he's working on 3s during RS year Definitely not a lights out shooting team. But 6 out of those 8 guys will have to be respected from deep (in accordance with my predictions).
  20. Very good point @Norm Peterson Next year's roster is definitely lacking shooting. Thor is currently our top shooter. Green, Teddy Allen, and Kevin Cross (on paper) should be good shooters. Shamiel was a 36-37% guy if i recall correctly; however, not sure about what his volume looked like. With the rest of the roster, we gotta trust the Shot Doctor i suppose.
  21. After more thought I'm thinking: STARTERS - Cam Mack 6'2 JR - Dachon Burke 6'4 SR - Teddy Allen 6'5 JR - Dalano Banton 6'8 SO - Yvan Ouedraogo 6'9 SO ROTATION - Jervay Green 6'3 SR - Shamiel Stevenson 6'6 JR - Derrick Walker 6'8 JR This is really hard to do bc it leaves out Thor and Kevin Cross who both are good players and will have a decent shot to prove my predictions wrong. Im gonna go a step further and predict Akol Arop to take an unconventional sophomore redshirt. I think they really would have liked to RS him this year but due to Shamiel Stevenson's eligibility up in the air and an already thin front court, it wasnt really plausible. The staff grabs a RS transfer to go along with Akol and then sits on the other scholarship for 2021.
  22. FWIW he said its very important to him and his parents that he get a degree so hes ready for life after basketball.
  23. Poor effort in a lot of ways. Very disappointing. Hopefully its another lesson learned for this team. You gotta bring it every night regardless of who youre playing.
  24. Very reasonable to feel that way this far into the season against this level of competition. HUGE STEP BACK.
  25. Also, i think the teams success this past week was more due to them starting to figure it out as a team and less to do with Jervay Green's absence.
