Norm's Conference Recognition Watch List
Art Vandalay replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
‘Walker at MSU and J Young (my pick) are deserving, not sure Shannon will get much love, missing multiple games and a rape charge. i will be surprised if KT makes it but hopefully he kills it down the stretch again. -
Think MD got in easy last year with like 1 road win
-
Totally agree with this but I do have to say Aquek was a key piece of their final four team even though his stats were nothing special.. Perfect role player on that team and a GREAT kid too.

2023-24 6th Man of the Year Award Candidates

All the guys on BTN were saying it too -
It looked bad, saw it happen at the end of their last game.

He will play in Europe, no real chance in NBA (just my opinion). Not athletic enough to guard anyone an his offense is good but not NBA level elite needed to overcome lack of Def. Love him and really hoping for another year here.

I have no problem with our schedule this year. Setting us nicely for the tourney if we take care of business. Looks a lot like Big12 teams to me. If we jut had one road win and kept loses closer we would be talking about seeding right now and not just making it.
-
Most of the ones I’ve seen have it reversed. We are the 7-9 seed and NW 10-11. They are good an I expect them to make it and probably jump us after we play them again.
-
But are they really? KU is really the only one who played a tough non con. The rest beat up on easy schedules so it is hard to know how legit they really are. It’ll be interesting to see how the committee slots them.

2024 G Nick Janowski is N
Art Vandalay replied to Navin R. Johnson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Love it I have dreams of him being a much better shooing Volek from Marquette. -
Ideally I’d like us to go get a true difference making lead guard and Rice takes a jump so we can start Brice at the 2 and him and Gary at Forwards.

2021 SG Hunter Sallis ->Gonzaga->Wake Forest
Art Vandalay replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Been watching him all year. Not surprised on no PG, they have real nice guards. Biggest surprise to me is he is hitting 3’s at a decent rate. He has struggled in college so far and I played pick up with him a few times last summer and that shot was not pretty. Glad he is doing well though as he is a good kid. He would have given us someone who can get to the rim and that would have been great. -
Agree with you, never thought he was a ball hog at all. He could be shooting more and I’d be good with that. I’m fine with him and Keisei hunting shots when they are feeling good. Speaking of feeling good. Anyone check CJ’s shooting numbers these days? 50-44-93 is pretty incredible at this point in the season. Kid is balling.

It was a lot more than Williams for sure. Anyone not named Josiah, Reink, or Sam did not look like they had a clue on the defensive end. -
I did. They have been playing well which surprised me as I thought they were pretty bad to start the year. Hope they can keep it up.

I really think if the season ended today we are in and probably an 8/9th seed. If we get to 21 wins with 3-4 Q1 wins I think we are in easily in the end as well. Hopefully MSU and KSU stay Q1, if so I’m confident we get in with 20+ wins. -

They couldn’t in our section of lower bowl. All the kids were waiting in the isles. We sit on the end and couldn’t get out if we wanted to -

He sat in front of us and at that moment I knew something great was going to happen. He was one of the first ones rushing the court too. GLORIOUS -
I was in Norfolk doing the same

Is Hoiberg the coach of this team next year?
Art Vandalay replied to huskerbill85's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Apparently lots of people because they still use his records those years as a reason for him to be gone. Still doing it this year until the last couple games. He was definitely in charge no one is debating that. He was used to getting dudes and out scoring teams, we knew that, we all wanted that. With those rosters I don’t care what style he played it would have been ugly. So in hindsight it is super easy to say he should have played differently but that was not who we hired at the time. IMO there are 2 reasons it didn’t work. Big10 is different and recruiting was very limited his first two years because of limited time in year 1 and then Covid. If things were not so crazy those years I would bet his record would have been much improved. Maybe things would be different now but I’m happy with where we seem to be headed. So maybe it was just a painful but good lesson. I love Trev and he was very clear changes were needed and Fred came back to him with a plan and then implemented it, he should get some credit for that. ‘Edit note. I’m not telling you your opinion is wrong just explaining why I and others have not been calling for his job over the last few years. Everyone has their own expectations -
Is Hoiberg the coach of this team next year?
Art Vandalay replied to huskerbill85's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
People seem to forget the first two seasons involved completely rebuilding a whole roster during a pandemic. That is truly a once in a lifetime event (we hope). Yes everyone had to deal with Covid but it was much easier for experienced teams with a solid roster in place. Not traveling to recruit or have guys visit our facilities was killer. So I have always given him the benefit of the doubt for those years. I do agree it should only take 3-4 years to build a hoops program normally so I think he is on track for that if we take care of business this year. Never understood those that wanted him gone after year 2-3. Hope we never have to worry about it anymore. -

He was probably there scouting. I saw there were scouts from various NBA guys at the game. -

Agreed and they played and shot the ball well against us. We just beat them straight up. -

UMass shot 20 FTs in the first half along. Must have been real tight officiating which is not good for the Duqs -

They shot better than us from 2&3, had more rebounds, more assists, refs killing us in first half, Gary had an off night scoring and we still kicked their asses. Great defense, hustle, coaching, all around team effort Love every minute of it. Even had Dylan Raiola taking selfies with the Tominaga family
