Yes. He'd fit the bill. Whether we're still in contention is a different story. I don't know the answer to that, but there hasn't been much noise about him, so I'm guessing his or our interest has waned. That's possibly not the case, but if he hasn't done anything by now, he's probably looking for other schools to visit or considering returning to UNLV, where he doesn't need a waiver from the NCAA to play next season.

Keeping up with the offers/visits

Looking back, I was pretty good at guessing. -
You're probably right, @khoock
-
By any chance, have you been here before? Like, with a different screen name? You sure about that?
-
I hate to say this -- I really do hate to say this -- but ... Now that we have Stevenson, and with the other players Hoiberg has brought in, the absolute perfect finishing piece to this roster would be (drumroll) ... Isaiah Roby.

Don't feel bad. That wasn't my intent. It's just that she and her family were avid Husker hoops fans who showed up basically every game. I'm sure they still do although I'm equally sure they have better seats than me and I probably can't see them from where I sit. Like many of you, I disagree with her about this deal. But I think we can disagree and still have a beer.

I think the French kid is a really intriguing prospect, especially if he has the chance to redshirt. He just turned 17 in March, which means at the beginning of this year, he was still only 16 years old. He's 6'8" now and could still be growing. His muscle structure is that of a guy who can add some bulk. He's already very strong and could be a monster. He shows good quickness. Seems to understand the game. Appears to have the platform to build a jumper off of. I like his alpha male attitude on the floor. I think he's one I'd take a chance on and give him a redshirt year to finish growing and build his skillset. Meanwhile, Cross does some things you really like to see. If we had landed Jayce Johnson, then perhaps we'd say one or the other of Cross and Ouedraogo. But with Jayce making other plans, we have the room to take both of these guys.

I'm REALLY keeping my fingers crossed for a waiver. To have him from the get go would be HUGE. Kinda like the Copeland situation. I want him for any early-season rivalry-type games. Bigly.
-
Here's the thing: The guys who remain from last year's team are the guys who actually attended the individual workouts. ?
-
-
He won that dunk contest, BTW.
-
If you look at that picture of him standing next to Hoiberg, I think he looks as tall as Kevin Cross. Can anyone do a side-by-side comparison? Edited: I think Cross is slightly taller. Maybe 6-7 to Shamiel's 6-6.

2019 Transfer Shamiel Stevenson - LOI
Norm Peterson replied to Norm Peterson's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
This is a big get. This is a kid who can play some ball and really fills an area of need. He's that guys who's strong enough to mix it up inside (like an Ed Morrow, but unlike Ed) and he can shoot the perimeter J. Plus he puts it on the floor and can drive it. Can score in a variety of ways. This is a really big pickup for us. -
OK, listen guys, the Rawlinsons sat in front of me at Devaney. Unlike me, she put her real name to her opinions and had them published in the Journal Star. I don't agree with her, but I do not question her integrity or her support for the program. Her family runs a prominent local business, OK? They support the athletic department just fine. You can disagree with her without invective. I think she's blowing things out of proportion, but I can respect that fact that she sees this differently and not get my nose all bent out of joint about it (which I would be far more likely to do with someone who was posting anonymously.)

His pictures at Hendricks don't make it look like he's fat. That was kind of the worry. That he was fat and out of shape and that's why Capel had a problem with him. That's not what his pictures look like. This is a guy who can put it on the floor, who can post up, and who can shoot the 3 about as good as any Husker last year was able to shoot the 3. I'm really curious to know how much remaining eligibility he has. But this might be the best pickup so far.
-
And equally mysteriously, Hoiberg decided not to keep him either. Hmmm. ?
-
I think the French kid could be really good. He's so young, he probably needs a redshirt. And that would help him develop some skills as well. But he's got a lot going for him, including that he might not be done growing, which could end up being a big deal.

It's all in there: Amir has 3 seasons left whereas Thor has 2 at most; Amir can't shoot a lick, and while Thor ain't great, at least his FTs are decent whereas Amir's are horrid; Amir is a PG but dished about half the assists of Thor per minute played, indicating Thor had more of an impact when he was in the game; Amir isn't durable and missed a lot of games, especially at the end when there was an opportunity for significant playing time. Thor isn't a great fit for your system if you're Hoiberg, but you're not investing a lot of time in him, either. Amir isn't a fit at all. Why on EARTH would you keep him? "He's long, he's athletic, blah blah blah." FFS, so are a lot of other guys who have the added advantage of being able to shoot more than 30% from the FT line.
-
I think that might be part of it. Saw somewhere there's speculation that Thor is on pace to graduate next May and would, therefore, not take a spot from a 2020 kid. But I don't get the infatuation some people have with Amir Harris. If Matt Abdelmassih is the recruiter we've been lead to believe, he should have no difficulty whatsoever bringing in all kinds of players who are better suited to the Hoiberg system than Amir. Amir was a better fit for Miles whose offensive philosophy involved liking the 3 and loving the rim. But Amir's offensive limitations would have been a problem there as well. You'd still want to have someone who could shoot at least a little. But Amir is NOT a fit for Hoiberg whose philosophy is almost the reverse of Miles. Why leave him on the roster for 3 more seasons when you should feel confident that you could sign half a dozen players in the 2020 class for that spot who would be better fits?

2019 Transfer Joel Ntambwe -> Texas Tech
Norm Peterson replied to hhcmatt's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Yeah, I wasn't either. Apparently you had to be good or something. -
You had a perfect opportunity for a semicolon there and passed it up. I feel like you would want me to let you know.
-
I'm going to redo it when the roster is complete. I had been told Jayce was a lock and Stevenson probably too, and then we'd get the better of either Cross or the French kid. But Jayce threw a wrench in my plans, the SOB. So, now we hafta wait.
