  1. Hopeful we don’t get into a bidding war here. We should offer what we believe is a reasonable price and if he takes a bag just to take a bag, then so be it. Would love Kyle… but don’t want to put all our eggs (filled with dollars) in one basket.
  2. I have a hard time faulting 18-22 year olds from taking advantage of a situation that, frankly, the adults in the room should have thought about. I’m a Husker homer. 100%. Even I wouldn’t turn down the 100K if offered. Many of these guys will need a life after basketball and how many of us would have loved to start that life after college with a cool 100K+ in our bank accounts? I think we need to pay Nebraska born players what they’re worth/what we believe they’re worth. Now, as I said above, I absolutely do not think we should overpay what we believe their worth is. That may sometimes mean other teams being a higher bidder. That doesn’t mean we should/did lowball an offer. It’s a delicate balance and because it’s the Wild West out there right now, things change on what seems like a daily basis.
  3. We finally get a shutdown inning and do nothing with it. Frustrating.
  4. The players have to WANT to be here too. Obviously we reached out to Frankie. He visited. He chose elsewhere. We also can’t over pay just to get guys from the state. You make it sound like he has completely ignored in state talent when it seems like we’re usually the first to reach out.
  5. Don’t want to poo poo on the game too early… but I’m getting huge “here we go again” vibes.
  6. You also only have to pay a rookie contract instead of a veteran contract when you pay freshman.
  7. Looking at the beginning of the year, we were pretty fortunate thinking we wouldn’t have to play most of the teams in the bottom half of the league. Oh how the tables have turned since then. now you’re left with games against teams like Iowa that are Q4 home games. Sucks.
  8. So a couple of things. 1st, there has been a ton that has happened since DW made that comment and Fred is more in the majority than minority now when it comes to using transfers. As you noted, it almost makes you wonder why you should even recruit freshman. And I have a few reasons. 1. 13 scholarships. 13 guys aren’t going to play and if you have 3-5 transfers sitting on your bench, you’re going to have some chemistry issues. Freshman are more willing to take the experience even though they might transfer. 2 Though it’ll be rare, you’re still going to have a guy here or there that sticks around for multiple years. 3. The grass isn’t always greener. We’ve seen guys go back to the school they started at. If you have a freshman come, transfer out, and hit the portal again… you’ve develop that relationship already. Just a few quick thoughts I’ve had.
  9. Our complete inability to take care of CU games the past 5-7 years is mind boggling. They aren’t a juggernaut by any means. It’s a lot of head stuff and I fear we have a lot of head issues (here we go again) type of things going on in mid-week games.
  10. We’ve already squandered at least 5-10 points it feels like. It’s early, but dang… we could have been near or even top of table right now.
  11. So much this. It’s probably not every day you can grab a former P5, 3 point specialist, who is willing to accept a role of the bench, and who won’t cause problems, before stepping foot on campus. But CJ is one of those guys.
  12. Damn— was 20 minutes late with my joke. *Tips hat
  13. I mean-- the dude didn't get a single minute of playing time. So I can't fault him for leaving....
  14. Shoot-- if we can just leap to where we were last year, that would be a huge plus.
  15. We've really signed two guys who, with the right change of scenery, could absolutely EXCEL under Fred. If they come in with the right mindset-- look out!
  16. So I noticed that MSU/Michigan play a 4 game set this year and it appears they'll get an extra game in the standings. How is this possible? Doesn't seem right, but does it happen every year?
  17. Run rule Sunday! I'll take 2/3 from Maryland. For goodness sakes get a mid-week win, take 2/3 from Iowa and the schedule sets up nice for a couple of sweep chances in the last three weekend of the season!
  18. ' I'm like 51% sure that this guy posted a "I'm back" about tOSU earlier this month. LOL. Just goes to show, never stop fearing until the portal closes.
  19. Great answer from the boys today! Especially from the bats.
  20. It probably also helps too that you can go back and see that Fred truly does play the hot hand. So coming off the bench doesn't automatically assume you're getting less than starters minutes. How many times did JLaw play a ton of minutes off the bench late or how many times did KT ride the bench on his off nights for extended periods of time. I think Fred does a really good job of not getting caught up in how many minutes a guy has or hasn't played and rides who is hot more often than not.
  21. We also have to trust that Fred knows what he’s looking for now. He’s got the formula to the secret sauce that works for him. I don’t think he’d go away from that just to get more athletic. I’m going to go out on a limb and say Fred was completely transparent and honest with what he expected and envisioned for each player we’ve recruited. I would hope, much like Boogie, that each player took that to heart before committing and they know that we expect ‘we over me’.
