Really surprised and excited that 8 seed Lincoln East has made the finals. The Spartans take on 3 seed Millard West later today for the Class A title.

Waverly another surprise takes on Elkhorn South and Erik Piakowski's daughter (Paige) for the Class B title in a few moments.

Emerson-Hubbard won the D-1 title this morning in a close one over Howells-Dodge 41-38.

Kearney Catholic just beat Lincoln Christian 39-37 on a buzzer beater to win the C-1 title.

Crofton takes on GACC later today for the C-2 championship, and Wynot tackles O'Neil St Mary's for the D-2 title also later today.

Really like what Waverly did in the Class B tourney but it's really hard not to root for Elkhorn South when you see Erik Piatkowski's daughter playing and reminding you of so many of the same mannerisms we saw some 25 years ago.

Elkhorn won the B title 43-33

In other state championship games yesterday Crofton wins their fifth straight C-2 title with a 46-43 win over Guardian Angels Central Catholic. And Wynot takes down O'Neil St. Mary's 41-40 on a last second shot to win the D-2 title.

When my nephew was in 7th grade he got recruited to a catholic prep school to play basketball. He wasn't in a catholic school prior to then. He was seen on a 7th grade club team apparently.

One of the other kids on the same club team was in a parochial school. Ultimately my nephew didn't go there. So they do recruit, at least in larger cities.

Public schools can't compete because they can't recruit?  Says who?

Seward girls a few years ago?

Seems I remember comments to the effect that none of the girls in the starting lineup lived within Seward's school district boundaries.

Am I not remembering that correctly?

Best finish was Wynot against OSM.

The Arkfeld girl steps into a contested trey with about 10 seconds left and nails it to give Wynot a 1 point lead.

Clock apparently continues to run in girls hoops after a made basket in the final minute?  Because OSM calls TO with about 7 seconds left.  Their inbound gets batted out of bounds right in front of the Wynot bench and they have to go 3/4 court with 4 seconds to get a basket.

Great play call.  Fantastic execution.  Pass goes down the sideline to the front court and that girl throws a perfect pass to a wide-open teammate streaking to the basket.

Her layup lips out just as the buzzer sounds.

But it was truly impressive that they got the shot they wanted and got it off in time.  It just didn't fall for them.  And you have to give the Arkfeld girl a lot of credit for nailing the trey that gave them the 1-point lead with 10 seconds to go.  That was gutsy.
