Key Injuries

Nebraska - Mike Peltz - Doubtful

Nebraska - Andre Almeida - Questionable

Wisconsin - Josh Gasser - Out for season (ACL)

Player to watch; Jared Berggren

The 6'10" Senior leads a balanced offense in scoring at 13.4 ppg and is comfortable drawing out a "traditional" center to the 3 pt line when needed (He's shooting 39% from three). He also part of the "Wisconsin System", barely playing his first two seasons before becoming a main cog in a typically older Badger lineup. The big man also is one of the best FT shooters on the team, shooting 80% on the year.

Points will be at a premium

The Badgers roll into town as the only team in the B1G with a slower game tempo than the low scoring Huskers. The Badgers are intentionally deliberate with their offense, deadly from 3 pt range, dominating the boards on both ends, and known for their suffocating defense. The 9 turnovers per game they average is good for the best turnover % in Division 1.

Along with Berggren, Wisconsin rolls out the red-headed Bruesewitz and Evans at forward. Last season in the first B1G game for Nebraska, Evans put up a career high 22 points as the Huskers refused to guard him in the paint. The back court is a bit shaky for the Badgers with 3 point specialist Ben Brust along side the fill in for the injured John Gasser, Treavon Jackson. Gasser was meant to fill the Jordan Taylor scoring PG roll, which has been handled by a combination of Jackson and freshman George Marshall. Last but certainly not least, Wisconsin brings in highly rated freshman Sam Dekker and his 42% 3pt shooting off the bench to fill out their main rotation.

The Huskers and their shallow roster are down to six regulars before you need to look down to the end of the bench. Almeida's ability to clog up the lane and Peltz's scrappiness will be missed this game if they can't give it a go. With the exception of Berggren and Evans, the Badgers don't draw a whole lot of contact as well so the lack of depth won't be as big of a disadvantage for Nebraska. Ubel needs to be careful not to foul out, someone needs to contain Evans in the paint, and the rest of the Huskers can't just fold inside to leave the Wisconsin three point shooters unguarded.

To win this game, Nebraska certainly needs to put forth more effort than they did against Ohio St. David Rivers and/or Shavon Shields will be asked to pick up their offensive game with Almeida out. In case of foul trouble or injury, freshman Vucitec will possibly be tasked for the most minutes of his career. The Huskers have been jacking up 3s this season when they give up working inside the paint though this is an offense that will work as good as any against Wisconsin.

A streaky shooting Nebraska team is capable of winning this game just as much as they are of scoring less than 40.

Prediction: Wisconsin 56 - Nebraska 46 with a 0% chance of Runzas

Tickets FOR Christmas? Did that include an all-expense paid round trip to the North Pole, a one-on-one visit with Santa Clause, and an hour ride on his sleigh?  :D
